  • thats the stupidest sports ranking i've ever seen. of course it would be typical of americans to put the most common sports around on top. baseball...is not a hard sport, i could list 10 more sports around the world similar to it but way harder.. in my opinion not in any particular order is top 5 are: running swimming rowing cycling boxing

  • @TheArdScoilRis ESPN clearly was more interested in appealing to the masses than actually compiling a true list, as you pointed out. I respect your top 5, sir.

  • @cicirunner thanks. to be quiet honest you cant really judge the hardest sports in the world but what i find stupid is i could list 20 sports that are much harder than that lists top 10. i mean theres so many sports out there and knowones ever going to be able to do all of them.

  • i totally agree that running should be way higher. but i looked at the list and who ever gathered the results on ESPN based it on what he liked. they really need to go get an athlete to go around and actually try to do all the sports. hook up equipment for heart rate and everything. then and only then should they come up with a list. totally dependent on how physically demanding it is. maybe use a triathlon athlete to do it so they don't have a dominant advantage in skill of a specific sport.

  • also, I disagree, cheer is a sport, the amount of hard work girls (and some guys) put into it, at least at my high school is pretty tremendous. Like running, it's also very nerve racking, imagine a flyer dropping in front of 6 judges, good bye state. Cheer is indefinitely a sport, I'm surprised you would dismiss it as being a sport like people dismiss running as being a sport..

  • @56Database I know it would be surprising that I would discount cheer since it's like the black sheep bad mouthing another black sheep. I did mention that it requires a lot of work. My sister was a cheerleader. The issue I have is the judging is subjective. Sports, in a sense, are activities done in a competitive manner. Competition signifies that people are competing to win. Subjectively determining a winner seems iffy to me. Just my opinion. It isn't the truth, just my thoughts.

  • the gauging is centered around boxing if you look at how the graded. Some sports don't require any agility, some sports hardly require flexibility, and the definition of nerve is very subjective. Competitive runners would definitely agree that according to ESPN's definition of nerve "ability to overcome fear" running would be over 6/10.

    Trying to define a ranking is impossible, but ESPN's ranking is clearly centered around boxing.

  • @56Database ya i totally agree with you there

  • It's 1st for endurance, which is what toughness is all about.

    And obviously the people who put up the list's are idiots.

    Agree 100%, great video man

  • swimming is hardd

  • Auto racing, long/triple jump, high jump, auto racing, BADMINTON?, fencing, volleyball, all ice skating, FIELD HOCKEY?, soccer, baseball, tennis, basketball. I've played both soccer and basketball and this sports are weak compared to running. This list sucks lol

  • our sport is their sport's punishment.

  • My top 10 toughest sports: 1. Boxing 2. Gymnastics 3. Water Polo 4. Mid-Distance Running 5. Football 6. Wrestling 7. Ice Hockey 8. Cycling Distance 9. Lacrosse 10. Rowing
  • @DeontaPittman1 Nice list! I almost put Gymnastics in my Top 10, but to be honest, there are two reasons why I didn't. First of all, I don't like that it's the type of sport that is judged subjectively, and also, I just don't have much knowledge of the sport. I know it's very hard though. Takes so much dedication to practice a routine until it's perfect. I think most people have reached a consensus that boxing is at the top.

  • Distance running got dragged down by all the categories they had for the sports but if you look at the entire list running has the most endurance points along with cycling.

  • woah now! any true runners knows running can be the easiest sport in the world or the hardest, its all about you; you are the one the judges how hard your going to run that day and that really is the deciding factor for me. these espn ppl are all ex football players and never had the guts to run hard so they wouldnt know. btw me and even all my football buddies agree espn is a joke

  • running should be higher up but because the scale in which they used to rate the sports is hard to reflect in running like for example the ANALYTIC APTITUDE is something only a runner could really understand when it comes down to judging pace, people moves, pace changes...ect.

  • Yeah, running is WAY too low. On my Track team right now we have a friendly rivalry, you know light trash talk between sprinters and distance runners, but I know anyone of them would admit that long distance running is tougher than sprinting.

  • Chris, I agree 100%. Like you said, Distance Running probably isn't #1, But it should be atleast in the top 5. Total BS.

  • distance running, fine. my reaction to all of this is also 'BULLSHIT' because it simply is. HOWEVER, because of a slightly different reason. ROWING has a place in the top three for sure. People had died from over exertion and in my crew, throwing up is a commonality. In sports like soccer, basketball, lacrosse, etc., if you must, you can slow down the pace or even stop when the play isn't in your area, but in rowing, slowing down one split is like a samurai surrendering before he's even lost...

  • @jeffhou3 Hahaha that is a classic description. When I saw where rowing was ranked, I knew you would get pissed. Isn't it officially called Crew?

  • @cicirunner that depends on where you live, much like football and soccer. here in canada, it is more common to call it rowing

  • pole vault was pretty high up there...

  • @musiclover5327 Yeah, I remember the pole vaulters on my track team would practice for 15 minutes, then they would go hang out at McDonald's down the street and go home.

  • WTF???? lacrosse is 14th behind tennis! that is bull shit!

    1=hockey

    2=running

    3=lacrosse

  • @redmaclh12 I know man! They also have basketball way too high.

  • @cicirunner who made this crappy list anyway?

  • @redmaclh12 Espn made the list lol. I have a link in the description under the video that shows their official list.

  • My first reaction: "BULLSHIT!" ...yep. haha

  • I think hockey earned 2nd place

  • @babypaco23 I don't have gripes about that. On my list of Top 10 in the description, I have hockey as my 5th which is still up there.

  • Wow there's 60+ sports

  • @babypaco23 I was surprised too! I will give them credit for taking into account many types of sports. Can you think of anything they left off? Maybe dodgeball hahaha.

  • Cycling is in the top 20 but running is not, bs.

  • @PPK464 Though cycling is respectable running is much more difficult.

  • @PPK464 Cycling can be hard at times, but it's more strategic than hard. The person who wins is usually the smartest. What do you think about Badminton lol.

  • That is ridiculous. It was probably some out of shape jogger who made this list.

  • Pisses me off when people tell me running isn't a sport. I mean, to me, it's definitely one of the toughest 3 sports out there. All the dedication, workouts, consistency (not to mention the difficulty of a race) make it tougher than almost every other sport. Plus, ESPN's rankings in the 10 categories on running are shit - they make no sense whatsoever lol. Someone should tell the overweight guys making the list to go run a marathon and then rank running.

  • @laffyjaffe15 I know!! Besides an Ironman triathlon, I'm not sure what single athletic achievement is more impressive than a marathon. I'm a runner and even I'm intimidated by it lol.

  • Nerves are a 2 out of 10? Standing at the starting line everyones heart is pounding in nervousness!

  • @TheJmoltz Before a race, I piss like 3 times, but no matter what I still have the urge to go when the race starts haha.

  • Sports that bother me are ones that fat people can excel in professionally. Slobs can excel in sports like golf, baseball, shooting and billiards. Sports that really push athletes to there limits are more "tough" in my opinion. The more fit the athlete needs to be the tougher the sport. Bottom line, all the various types of running should be higher on the list

  • Looks like there rankings are based on a combination of 10 categories. I think what your talking about is "how tough are the athletes" in the various sports, mentally and physically. I would also put combat sports near the top of the list.

  • I think they base their decisions on how tough it is to excel in a sport. Most people can train their bodies and be successful in distance running, however sprinters need to have a natural born talent. Football requires no talent at all, among with other sports on the list.

  • If you really think about it figure skating is boat loads ahead of running. you have to perfect everything and the technicality of it exceeds anything I can think of.

  • @kratos223 I guess you're right. Figure skating is pretty hard. I overreacted because my initial thoughts about it were that it isn't a manly sport, but yeah, it is difficult. One thing that bothers me about gymnastics and figure skating is that the winner is determined by biased opinions. In my eyes, this kind of detracts from the sport.

  • Haha, I cracked up when you mentioned cheerleading being on the list. Anyway, I definitely agree with you that running deserves more recognition on that list. Running is essentially a test of toughness so there's no reason volleyball should have a higher ranking.

  • I think by toughest, ESPN means that they are the "toughest" to master; similar to how you said this is a semi-accurate list based on skill

  • Totally agree, nice video :]
