Lol the music is from saw... Creepy. Thanks for the video too, I'm doing an English oral about the war in Afghanistan and this video really helped me understand what was happening before the civil war (:
The tribesmen and feudal lords, reasserting their power, ordered their peasant farmers to plant opium poppy, while the Pakistani ISI set up hundreds of heroin laboratories across the nation. In fact, within two years the Pakistan and Afghanistan border had become the largest producer of heroin in the world. Moreover, the region became the single biggest supplier of heroin to America.
So what did U.S. support of the mujahideen and other Afghan rebels do for the region? After the overthrow of the PDP by the mujahideen in Kabul, the mujahideen fell to fighting amongst themselves. They laid waste to citiesincluding Kabul, terrorized the civilian populations, looted, staged mass executions, closed schools, and raped thousands of women. They began ruling the country and looking for lucrative ways to make money, one of which was poppy cultivation.
It is generally thought that the Marxist government fell immediately after this, but that is far from the truth. The PDP retained enough popular support to last until 1992. Which also puts doubt on the idea that it only limped on due to Soviet funding because the Soviet Union was overthrown in 1991.
During the course of the ten year occupation by Soviet forces, little was accomplished besides helping to maintain the PDP's formal leadership. Soviets, like American and NATO forces today, could only contain urban centers, but not rural areas due to logistical problems. So after a long and unsuccessful war, the Soviets evacuated in February 1989, but still continued to support the PDPA economically and politically.
Only this time, the resistance was inflated with many recruits from other nationssuch as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Pakistanand billions of dollars in funding for training, recruitment, and equipment. The CIA saw this as a perfect opportunity to escalate the tribal and feudal reactionary resistance into a holy war against communism.
and foreign mercenaries, who were all recruited, financed, and well-armed by the CIA, and Moscow obliged.
Following the Kabul supported Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Amin was assassinated, Babrak Karmal was placed into power and civil war, once again, broke out in the region. Keeping with the format that usually characterizes civil conflict in the region, native tribal and feudal leaders were opposing the government in power.
Although the Soviets were already supplying assistance in areas such as mining, education, agriculture and public health, it took repeated requests from Kabul before it would send military aid. Finally, in late 1979, Islamic guerrillas in the mountainous countryside harassed the Afghan army to the point where the government of President Hafizullah Amin turned to the Soviet Union for increasingly large amounts of aid and eventually asked for military assistance to help ward off the mujahideen
Jimmy Carter's national security advisor at the time, Zbigniew Brzezinski, has stated that the U.S. effort to aid the Afghan rebels was preceded by an effort to draw the Soviets into a costly and presumably distracting Vietnam-like conflict. He has gone on record to state that it wasn't known absolutely that the Soviets would intervene, but the probability of such a course of action was multiplied significantly.
In September of 1979, Hafizullah Amin seized power through an armed coup. He immediately executed Taraki, halted the reforms, and murdered, jailed, or exiled thousands of Taraki supporters as he moved towards establishing a fundamentalist Islamic state. During the period between September and December of 1979, official Afghan figures reveal that between 15,000 and 45,000 people were executed. Amin, himself released a list of 18,000 executed, and blamed them on Taraki to justify his execution
But the problems for the PDP did not stop there. Because of its dedication to egalitarian economic policies, the US national security state began funding and training the feudal landlords, tribesmen, fundamentalists, and opium traffickers though Operation Cyclone. This operation was directed by the CIA and assisted by Saudi and Pakistani military forces to launch a large scale intervention into Afghanistan against the reformist government during the years of the Carter Administration.
Although the government was generally popular amongst the peasant and working classes, opposition arose from several quarters of Afghan society. The feudal landlords, who had enjoyed their privileged status in land holding for centuries, opposed the land reform program because it infringed on their holdings. Tribesmen and fundamentalist leadership also had their own grievances. They opposed the government's dedication to gender equality, the education of women and children, and state atheism.
Following the death of Daoud Khan 1978, the Khalq leadership of the People's Democratic Party(PDP) took control of Afghanistan. Immediately they began implementing social reforms that were met with opposition by many of the feudal and tribal leaders. Labor unions were legalized, a minimum wage was established, a progressive income tax was instituted, a literacy campaign started, and programs that gave ordinary people greater access to health care, housing and public sanitation were enacted.
i would like you to know that Rabbani and gulbadeen and the rest of the clowns started there terror in the early 70's way before the russian came, they were trhowing acid in the faces of afghan woman
fuck the mujadeen puppets of cia and isi that destroyed afghanistan
Ya Afghanistan has a recent history of problems but no religion will fix it. People need education including women and human rights, its the only solution. There is a warlord mentality there that has existed for hundreds even thousands of years. Most of these people can barely read or write. Most third world countries are very religious but live a horrible, poor life. Secular countries that have rule of law decided by the majority and education have a much better country to live in.
dude, thank you for your comment, however i made this as a completley educational documentary, for people who may ahve an interest in afghanistans turbulent history, and the facts behind why it went downhill since the soviet invasion. I mean no offence...just trying to keep the peace
@tubester4567 what have you ever had to sacrifice to protect your way of life? third world countries do not live horrible, poor lives they simply live like all of our ancestors onced lived and they are willing to kill and die for it.
i see afghanistan in the same situation. there are Northern Alience in place of communists although there are communist still in northern Allience (allience of theives) and then the Common Afghans (the Mujahids).

This is a great start and I am sure it took you a lot time to create such a beautiful video. One correction needs to be made is, the Russians were brought to Afghanistan by Babrak Karmal and no one mentions his name. thx
Thank you for your comments brother...however if you look at 08:40, it mentions Karmal increasing the call for the Russians, but its ok, next part of the series is about the invention...so will be mentioned...thank you for the idea, greatly appreciated
