im no engeneer but, i just got ceramic breakpads+rotors, they work better the hotter they get. y dont trucks have ceramic disc breaks, instead of shitty old drum breaks? and why air? we have the technology we can stop them.
@justin76bmw Air brakes have a fail safe. Trucks with airbrakes have dual braking systems, the service brakes that are applied by the foot brake use air pressure to apply the brakes and the emergency brakes that are held open "unlocked" by air pressure. If you blow a line and pressures drop too low the emergency brakes kick on automatically when the pressure drops below 30-40 psi. If a hydraulic line blows then you have no brakes whatsoever.
@riolindasucks i drove a am general m915 once or twice, i know a little about spring breaks, ours were set at 60, i think. i still think theirs a better way, y not penumatic calipers, or some shit... u ever see a bugati vyron? maby i'm on to something..
That is a JKC truck, they seem to hire mostly those Russian guys most of the time. They all drive like idiots, that's a good place for those assholes to be, that makes me laugh when I get to see them screw up and not hurt anyone in the process
drove that mountain for 30 years and have seen it all alot of people killed there that streach of hill seen 6 trucks and 8 cars destroyed 3 miles of guardrail gone on both sides you never know you could doing every thing right and bam from behind seen lots of times right there on that streach of highway dont mess with it cuz that streach will kill you and as for riding it out thats what killed 90 per cent of them someone pull out in front and away you go youll be dead b4 it stops
@trukdrivur I myself drove a pete without engine brake...If you see your brakes smoking you stop. Therefore this driver does put himself in the rookie category.
If ur brakes r over heated that bad "putting it in the wind"ain't gonna work.u gotta slow down to down shift. at least he was willing to take the ramp & not try to keep going & kill someone
1972-1975 U.S.Army, 78th Trans Co., Russelshiem, Germany. Driving 5 Ton Cargo, International Cab-overs. 200k+ miles.
1975-1989 Coast-to-Coast as an Owner-Operator; first truck was an International 4070 cabover w/ Cummins 350 and a 10-spd Roadranger, hauling swinging beef and various frozen cold-storage products. ...about another 1 million miles; including numerous trips across Donners' Pass, California Grapevine, etc., etc.
driving since '92, have overheated brakes (halfway down a grade with no runaway ramp, truck with no jake). Myself, i'd rather take the ramp and suffer the slings and arrows of 'experts' than continue and end up crushing someone or killing myself on a curve.
Heat up the brakes. Yeah we we do it from time to time . Hit the runaway ramp "never
Only for rookies, I can tell you what to do, and how to make it down the grade. But you wouldn't understand .we call it putting it in the wind with your jake on high and in a low gear,
Just ride it out and the wind will cool you off, main thing don't panic, and never ride the brakes ...
haft of these pucks have never drove a truck ,so if u dont know dont post ,,bitchs

It took much more Skill to put it safely in the Sand than for an Expert like you to continue down the hill and kill someone.
