The original 426 Hemi could make UP TO 650 horsepower, but for insurance purposes they were all tuned down to 500 or so, and ADVERTISED them at 425.

The 6.1L HEMI is the most powerful CURRENT motor Chrysler makes. This does NOT include Mopar crate motors. For example the 472, 540 HEMI's.

that is not ture the 1966 426 hemi stock made 500 hp but they detuned it for street legal stuff when people bought a few ajustments made it make 500hp so the real 426 hemi was still more powerful look it up
