My apologies for those who are unable to recognize the Superb, pianistic Refinements of this Great pianist! Small slips are always going to be part of Live performance for anyone. His playing is Unique and that's precisely what separates him from the mundane and ordinary. I find no structural incongruities as suggested by one commentor.
i'm curious to know if this recording was made fairly late in sofronitsky's career. it's just that despite some wonderful musical ideas, the playing, from a purely pianistic point of view, is rather messy and unrefined. i know that sofronitsky's playing declined considerably in his last decade, and perhaps this recording was made at that time?
I really don't see what's so special about this recording. It's not continuous enough in tempo to really show the phrasing, and the suspensions just sound ugly and out of context. Only talking about the Chiarina, I haven't listened to the rest.
If you don't mind me asking, where do you find these recordings? I have none of Sofronitsky's recordings in my collection besides the one's you've posted and can't believe I haven't heard his playing before this. Thanks!
And the aveu!

Another colorful performance! Sofronitsky captured the essence of each character nicely.
