  • Ray Charles ll :D

  • I have a question: Thank by the way! Are all blues scales following the same pattern? I mean are the second note always 3 away from the first and the third is always 2 away from the second etc? So you can figure out all blues scales?

  • @zamton - exactly! you just have to transpose it up. meaning shift each note the same distance. The distance from one note to the very next note is called a half step. My free chords 101 course talks about that and major and minor chords. I think it would help you with transposing!

  • @offthewallschool Ok thanks a lot! And yes I will look it up!

  • I love your voice and your style !!

  • I learnt pretty fast the parts for each separate hand.

But I have troubles syncronising my hands to get them mixed together.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hey Chris! Do you mind making a video of you singing the complete song?

I can almost guarantee you'll have loads of views, just because you play brilliant.

  • У меня такое же пиано)

  • i can't get the trill to sound any thing like your's and i sware i'm rolling my wrist. are there any other tricks to get it to sound good and not crap like my trill

  • Hey can you upload a video of singing the whole song? would be great!

  • can you give me the sheet of this piece? i can't find it anywhere on internet...please

  • What i really wanna know is why you use that c# while playing the actual song? Just cause it sounds good?

  • @Donut1337 - Hey! In music, the ONLY reason to play it a certain way is because it sounds good :)

That note is what changes the chord from a dominant7 or minor chord. In the blues it sounds cool to go back and forth between major and minor like that. flat 3rd to major 3rd.

  • @Donut1337 actually the answer is, c# is taken from the chord Amajor. which happens to be the dominant of your dminor key. In this song he used augmented A7. it has c# in it man.

  • @Donut1337 Considering the blues scale is actually the Pentatonic Minor scale (which is itself based on a common Melodic Minor scale) PLUS the blue note, you can do almost anything you want, it's a musical choice and music is an art and you can't always comply exactly to the rules (in this case, to the scales) when you are making art, sometimes it's up to you, just pay attention to what you feel. (C# is included in the Dm Melodic Scale).

    Greetings from France. Hugo.

  • You have really nice voice! :)

  • This is perfect. JUST PERFECT GAH thank you!

  • I've been playing 20 years or so, retired lawyer and very, very bored so I'm back at it just blues you and musicguru12 are the best teachers on the whole internet for advanced playing. You are even easier since you have blue notes to verify riffs. Thank you I've just started with you. There are only a few great improvisation players since Steve Winwood isn't teaching us. It takes muscle memory and a heck of a lot of practice to you other students just starting out. I'm 53 and played at 15.

  • soooo gooood !! it´s so clear!! thanks!!

coud you explain me what you do with the left hand in all the song?? thanks!!

  • soooo gooood !! it´s so clear!! thanks!!

  • great man! you really teach very well, im learning it

  • hello from where i can got the sheet for this song ?

  • excellent. Thanks for this.

  • Look in your left hand.it looks like you are an Indigochild

  • too good man. i feel kind of bad for jacking your style here, because its awesome. i had to learn it though, great and challenging tutorial. it would be cool if you could go more in depth with it though, like more in depth with the licks(theres more than just the licks you showed). also, a little left hand/ right hand type thing that you play before the licks would be cool to learn. but GREAT tutorial though!

  • Man, that's so cool!

  • 45 people are not playing the keyboard

  • cool! im learning this!! ^^ thank you

  • Really love this vid. Watched it about a million times. Only had 10 view when I started :) There is a lot more going on than just the three licks you show us and thats what I like - a bit of a challenge. Any chance of a longer version for all of us Ray Charles (and your) fans?

  • @dmitcalf - hey dmitcalf! I'm working on some dvds now with better quality videos. There will definitely be some more hit the road jack on the dvd. Would you want more licks over hit the road jack? or to learn more of the melody on piano (rather than singing?)

  • @chrismarx85 Hey thanks for the reply. Its the licks I like but an improv over the melody would be fine too as I am not much of a singer. Let me know when the DVD is ready.

  • @dmitcalf - yeah! that would be great!

i'll send an email out to everyone who is on the fastpianolessons com list and then maybe post a youtube video about it

  • sounds like a song theyd play at a fancy bar

  • WHATCHA SAY!!!?

  • this is probably the cathiest song ever

  • nice, your a good singer and good at playing the piano ! :)

  • Fantastic!

  • ..very good for learning without buying piano sheets, fast of course for piano players with experience thanks

  • très bon, rapide pour apprendre...sans se prendre la tête avec des notes et des partitions.merci

  • Nice. Easy lesson, easy to pick up on. Looking to get into blues some. Thanks for the start :)

  • @chrismarx85

Sorry but your opinion is so wrong, you can hear it from miles away and i heard it the instant he played it. I play this song by ear so i found out the chords through listening to the song. If you play songs by ear and have what they call an absolute hearing than you know this. I guess either you dont or you worry about those black notes and thats wrong again, the strenth of this particular song lies in those black notes.

  • @youtub5036 - thats a good point. Every key has its own subtle but unique sound. However, there are lots of reasons to change the key of a song (aka transpose), even though it changes the original color of the song.

  • @youtub5036 hey you're a douche haha

  • @youtub5036 how can you hear it from miles away instantly as he hits the notes because sound doesn't travel in an instantaneous motion you know it only moves around 750 mph.

  • It'd be great to see some tutorial for the left hand. I'm not sure what excalty you play...

  • Great video and excellent camera placement. Thanks for putting the notes on the screen that is very helpful. Your a talented teacher, singer and player. Thanks for posting!

  • Very nice lesson - thank you

  • I'm just learning to play piano, and this is immensely helpful.

I already know guitar pretty well, but I've always just played by feel so I understand very little about scales and keys and music theory in general. Learning piano has forced me to go back and understand every little thing, it's like being a beginner again.

This lesson is so detailed and perfect, man. You broke everything down to an understandable level so quickly. This is going in the favorites :)

    I wish you took requests.

  • I love it!

  • Sooooooooo good ! Magnifique !

  • You missed the D# in the octave..

  • ich love this version

  • Your the MAN!

  • Can you give me the notes, or you play it without notes?

  • very nice thanks

  • wooooow :D love it <3

    :)

  • Thank you for the cool lesson. I wish you could do it more slowly so that I can follow it thanks anyway.

  • great tut, keep up the good work ;)

  • *crushed blue notes sorry

  • This is awesome man! I'm having trouble with the crushed blues scal though? I'm not sure what order to play the notes in?

  • well some of the other tutorials are really helpful and pretty, but this one is my favorite :)
