I just got a brilliant idea! What if... Now this is just what if... The Doctor does die but River Takes his time lord energy and the Doctors memories and she becomes the Doctor. It's just an idea but that'd be awesome!!

She didn't miss. She was shooting at the Astronaught then stopped and said 'of course'. My personal theory is that the Astronaught that shoots the Doctor is a younger River, she can't shoot a younger version of her self. Also we see the girl in the space suit and then regenerating at the end, there's only two people who can regenerate, River or the Doctor and last time i checked the Doctors never been a little girl. That's my theory, hope it helped. :)
