  • Not too bad, man, not at all. Maybe slow down a little. But I totally agree with your message.

  • Wise, man. Wise words. A great padawan to Maher you are.

  • What is wrong with working?

  • Crap.

Who wants more gov power and impositions?!?

  • saddly he got it right as a retail worker i have to say shoppers need to calm down

  • why do you say bill maher,im not?

    sorry,i dont get it

  • As one of those 2nd class citizens that works at 7/11 on Thanksgiving and Black friday I say thank you, let me have a holiday off......or any day for that matter....

  • AMEN

  • a holiday for sales? haha :D

though i think here we have more official holidays than in the states :)

  • Broadway shows are not open on holidays

  • You're right. Nice catch .But tons of theaters around the country are. New York's got some strong unions!

  • Maybe some of those people that work on black friday or on the holidays, do it because they need/want the money.

A friend of mine who worked thanksgiving night, told me that he was psyched he was working then like "i'm getting paid double my hourly wage, and it's going to be an easy night!"

Incidentally he didn't personally have to work then, he volunteered.

  • yea, its pretty bad, i do remember that i saw titanic for the first time in the theatre on christmas day. i was a cashier at a grocery store for 4 years, its amazing how much grumpier and rude customers are during the holidays too, not just to the workers but also to each other. how is that for holiday spirit?

  • Yeah it's terrible...people work and sell things so that the economy moves a little faster and then pretty soon we'll have folks working and making money and buying things with that money,,,yuck to all that yucky free market crap..we should just all sit inside our houses wacthing football and playing video games on phoney holidays.

Britehorn I ususaly agree with you but...please don't get on someone who wants to work on a holiday in these times of wanting for jobs.

  • Clearly this wasn't the best year to be making this point. My apologies to all of you out there who are looking for jobs.e

  • It doesn't really matter. No matter what someone is going to have something that ends up going against what you say. There could be a person on here right now who's offended by you apologizing...

  • It would br great to work one of these days, hell it would be great just have a job.

  • That is by far and away the most intelligent comment I've had on one of my videos in a very long time. I should have thought of that when I recorded this and I'm very grateful to you for pointed it out to me. Good luck with your job search!!!! You have my apologies.

  • You have good point britethorn!

    I agree though.

  • Well Britethorn, the TROOPS are FIGHTING for my right to ENJOY A SLURPEE YESTERDAY. My RIGHTS spell out that if I want a slurpee and a hustler on thanksgiving, I AM ENTITLED TO IT. NOWHERE in the CONSTITUTION does it say, Citizens are prevented from whatever they want on thanksgiving.

YOU want to OUTLAW businesses, REGULATE when they are open. WELL LET ME ASK THIS. Where do you stop. This is a slippery slope. Where do you stop. CLOSING DOWN BUSINESSES IS PLAIN OLD FASCIST / COMMUNISM!

  • I never said we should pass any laws. You just leapt to a big old conclusion. But speaking of communists, I guess you must really enjoy the long Soviet style lines!

  • The troops are fighting for your right to enjoy a slurpee and a hustler? So are you saying that if they quit fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, you wouldn't be able to get your slurpee and hustler? Maybe if they never left in the first place, they would be able to enjoy those things, but no, they're risking their lives in the name of "capitalism" and "democracy." Thanks to them, they're fueling the fire of this greed that causes companies to stay open like this all the time.

  • Yes they are, your CRYPTO-MARXISM NOTWITHSTANDING. The TROOPS are out there day and not ensuring that I CAN LIVE THE LIFE I WANNA LIVE> that includes getting deals on black friday. YOU and BRITETHORN would deny these freedoms. i say that is ANTI-DEMOCRATIC. i desire and am ENTITLED to my slurpee, hustler, and wii as an AMERICAN -- entitled to it by the WWII vets who made sure i can have those things, and have them in PLENTY

  • Extremist capitalism and democracy can be just as dangerous as extremist socialism and communism. You're living proof of that.

  • America never takes a 5 minute break... neither do it's workers! That's life... can't change this predicament!

  • Hey, American ends with "I Can!"

  • Some people sleep overnight at the malls to get in. I saw a lines of people at best buy at 5am.

  • It's like the first day of hunting season out there! I prefer to do my shopping online,

  • hey it's noon and I haven't heard about a fatal wal-mart stampede in long island or florida or some other place where people kill each other for beanie babies

  • And I hope you don't hear of such a thing the rest of the day. It would be nice if people were a bit more civil this year.

  • why stop there?

  • the sight of americans trampling each other in order to be the first to get a ps3 or save a few bucks makes me sick. what other culture is that materialistic?

  • Good question. Anyone out there from Europe, Canada or Australia (or anywhere else) ever see this sort of thing? Or do they get that stuff out of their systems at Football (Soccer) games?

  • You have an annoying voice.

Gilbert Gottfried also has an annoying voice, but he's funny.

  • Yeah, I can't get enough of those AFLAC commercials! A talking Duck!! Genius!! Almost as good as his talking Parrot in "Aladin."

  • "Only in America could we create an unofficial holiday for the biggest sale of the year"

Nope, we Canadians beat you to it. Plus, up here it's a real holiday. We call it "Boxing Day"

  • Don't the British have Boxing Day as well? December 26th. My understanding was that it was created as a way to give all of the servants a day off after making them work on Christmas Day (so there employers could party.)

  • IM TOTTALT WITH YOU ALL THE WAY

  • Retail depends on the holidays as long as blood flows through your veins.

We stopped celebrating Holidays. Really just another day trying to escape the struggle.

    Stay up.

  • I agree. There really arent any Holidays that people truly respect anymore.

Maybe on Veterans Day we stay thank you to a soldier (maybe) but thats about it.

The rest of the days are just excuses to get gifts and take a whole week off from work (Christmas); an excuse to overeat and buy something 50% off (Thanksgiving); an excuse to get piss drunk and not go to work (New Years); and every one I forgot to mention is just a day off from the job you probably hate.

    Such is Capitalism.

  • You missed the point. How can they be holidays when so many people are required to work them? Some of them get paid extra (which is a bit more civil) but most do not.

  • Because some people have to work them like nurses, doctors, military personal.

People dont stop getting sick because its a holiday right? City lights still have to be monitored (engineers), prisoners still have to be looked after (prison guards).

THings like that. But if its not essential to National Security of Commerce then it's just the cooperation being a bunch of greedy low-lives.

  • Agreed!

  • Thanks. I I meant National Security OR commerce lol not National Security OF Commerce.
