GOD. the people who always tell me keith can't play guitar need to get their facts straight. they obviously do not appreciate nor understand the beauty of the rolling stones.
What is it about Bridges? Was this a performing/creative high point or what the...? I mean seriously, the songs, the performances, cool beyond anything these guys (or any rockers ever for that matter) did even in the heyday of their twenties. Makes your 50s something to believe in.
To whoever posted this video, the riff Kieth plays at the end is very simple. Its not in the recorded version, only this live version 9this is the only one I've seen). Its simply a double stop at the fifth of the root. So play the 4th and 3rd strings together (the 2 notes on those strings directly under the root note). Sorry that is the best way i can explain it! But its so easy!
okay, i hope they have at least one more concert. i really do. i need to see them live. they're the only band that's still alive and together that i love T__T
Mick Jagger vs Michael Jackson - seems like Mick paved the way for many of Michael's best moves - Mick longevity and staying power is unquestionable. He's one of the greatest performers who ever lived, and we have youtube videos to prove it.
for all the people who slag off The Stones for being 'old' or 'past it' need to watch this. Jagger is the best front man ever and Keith is just as fantastic-if not better- than ever, and yeah they don't need the money now, but they are still the best band ever, so why should they stop. fans still fill vast arenas to see them and who can blame them with performances like this. and all these boyband fans, should be ashamed of themselves.
Great song, better production. One of the best riffs? Hmmm, sure adds to the whole tune alright. Very likely in Open G. Capo looks like it's on 7th fret. They're playing in D. I guess you know that. So put your guitar in open G, capo up and the notes will be there.
I believe he plays in B as you would play a chuck berry song. Switch between A and B chord then a long E and D and back to B. But for me more interesting is that Keith never plays it the same way twice, which keeps the drive and the groove. Listen to this song on the No Security album. He really knows where to put the accent and how to interact with the rest of the band.
I've seen The Rolling Stones 30 times in live concerts in SF Bay !! and I am very proud of it..They are the greatest , Mick is the King od Rock n' Roll !!! and Charlie Watts is the glu that hods the Stones together!!
I've seen The Rolling Stones 30 times in live concerts in SF Bay !! and I am very proud of it..They are the gratest and Mick is the King od Rock n' Roll !!!
Okay, I do not play guitar, however, I've read enough of Keith's interviews, etc. to know that he loves to play with open chords as most, if not all of you know. He also takes his guitars apart & pieces them together with other ones to get different sounds. He has different tunings on almost every guitar. He has said "I will be playing around & discover a new note" & he said that recently. The dude is strictly amazing, no two ways about it. Gotta love him. I met him - great, nice, kind guy.
Mick lost some of his limberness, but at 60 something years old, I know people that age who break out in a sweat just reaching for their pizza and beer ..... from their lounge chair. ...Breeeeuuuurp!
Excuse me, I think I got some of that on me. Oh well, tastes better the second time around.
This tune rocks man! I like this version better than the studio cut because of the trumpet solo. There's just a lotta energy here. The Stones are awesome!!
That was the highlight of that tour's show, as I recall. We saw them in D.C. and the one thing that stands out in my memory is the performance of this song. Great stuff.
Lord help me, now !! His passion must be a huge part of what drives the band on to far superior in the world of the greats. whoo..3:35...ahhhh.. how has time changed him? Out of control, but still as passionate as ever, if not more..oh gawd and then the harmonica.. 6:05 on...keef got one hot frontman to roll wiff ~xoxo~
I was blessed to be at this concert in St. Louis. If anyone could make a guitar and harmonica fuck onstage....Mick and Keith did it beginning at 5:31. THen it ws like the harmonica got done and the guitar walks away as saying....dominated! LOL
Yeah, I play that with the capo on the 7th fret and then play em-a- and then open (no fingers on the fret). Or you can play the F#M chord on the 7th fret (your pointing finger acts as the capo). If your playing that way you'll need to move your ring and pinky finger back and forth on seperate strings to make the em-a-open chords. Hope this works.
@lookylooky2006 I think that Keith has practically invented his own guitar style; his own tunings over the years. I try to play their stuff too, and can get close, but Keith frequently mystifies me. I LOVE that guy!
@swiggy58a You got that right! A lot of it is his touch, too. It's like - he doesn't care to impress with speed. The bends, the string wiggles, he just wants to groove and make it feel good. He gets deep into the sound, the feel and the mood, ... not himself. And many times Kieth's Laid back cool is so much better than shredding.
@RalphCramdenJr its total emotion, i think... keith richards can get it done in a couple notes... see honkey tonk woman its like a little 10 second thing but its great
@crackernumber2 I hear ya. That's why it's hard to imitate their sound to. Kieth has a certain touch, the way he bends the strings that's pure heart, that "gets it done in a couple of notes." I used to have a decent imitation of Kieth chords and Kieth feel, and it used to get me noticed by other musicians. They used to try to play all fancy while I just grooved along not breaking a sweat, yet had a bigger sound than they did. Then they'd ask "What chords are you playing there?"
@crackernumber2 Well, that was my secret. ;-) There really is a way of playing Kieth chords without changing tunings, but the touch is what's more important - and even the seemingly unnoticable string wiggles, the tiny nuances of his touch. Hard to explain, but Kieth has a touch all his own.
I was at this concert in St. Louis. Great show! Dave Matthews came out and did Wild Horses with them..it was awesome. But this song stole the show! Love how Jagger's harp and Keef's guitar just made love on that stage....that made that whole song!!! Could you have imagined if Bill Wyman's bass was in that? The although that clip was 12 years ago...they still rocked!
nobody does what Mick does..younger guys can't keep up with this cat..he's a world class athlete, as well as songwriter/performer..I am simply amazed at his stamina and drive
@hannababalon just in London they could have them succeded. full of hell angels, withknives n guns real amazing warriors at large.. I LOVE THE MICK N KEITH.
@hannababalon Well dont say that check out matthew bellamy of Muse He sings and plays guitar and runs around the stage ive seen many bands live Muse blows me away.
Timing segments of a song come like pieces of the entire puzzle. Like verses, choruses, and solos all take so many measures to complete. When you do it often enough in an established band you naturally feel the transitions coming. Charlie always triple snaps the snare during these transistions and is usually helping everyone recognize the next change. Very early when Charlie started with the stones he was not as cemented in this technique but picked it up later on. Now a trademark! Go Charlie!
Yeah, this performance is pretty much perfect. I am especially impressed by the guitars, they come in so smoothly at 1:20, and escalate so magically to the chorus... really tight.
I saw them do this in 2005... I think it could be one they play more often. It has the big stadium feel and the jam session at the end that gives Mick time to be goofy... it's a really good live song.
Mick is intense in his vocals and in his movements, and this really shows off his amazing sense of timing... he always comes in at exactly the right moment, no matter who is playing what.
Speaking of timing, Charlie is dead-on: snappy, smooth and always rock-steady.
Although Mick and Keith get most of the credit for the Stones (and deservedly so), much of their power & energy comes from Charlie's exceptional drumming.

Capo at the 10th fret, hold down the "a" and "d" strings and play that then move your fingers to the "d" and "g", play them and bend them upwards. You'll get that great raunchy sound. I did it when I was in a rock band several years back...great song to jam to live!
