If you put the c-clamp on the edge of the piston, you run the real risk of binding the piston in the housing and causing it to freeze up. You should always use a professional tool, or the old brake pad with the c-clamp. This is just scary
I just changed all four of my disk brake pads and i have noticed that my brake pedals are lower and softer than they were before......all i did was change the pads..i did not trouble the hydraulics....what is causing this?
When pushing the caliper piston in you shouldnt directly put the c clamp on the piston instead use the old brake pad as a solid surface to secure the c clamp as this will save any harm done to the caliper piston.
I usually just crack open the top of my master cylinder, you're only forcing a tiny bit of brake fluid into the system, so there's usually no spillage. Oh, and quick tip, I usually don't put the C clamp right on the piston, I usually take one of the old brake pads and put that between the piston and the clamp. This prevents any damage to the piston by spreading the pressure evenly on the piston.
@nightmathzombieethan Exactly!! I was wondering if I do it like the guy in the video, what would happen if the clamp slips, etc and damages the caliper piston. Good idea about putting the old bake pad and use it against the caliper piston.
You need to open the bleeder screw to let the fluid out instead of pushing it back into the master cylinder, you can damage it by pushing fluid backwards through the brake system.
So crazies like u dont blow out your master cylinder, But i guess you are right I,m kind of trying to put myself out of business, so go ahead cram that old fluid into the master.
help!!!i have a caliper piston that is really stuborn and want budge could you help?

you can just use a flathead screw driver and push the piston in using leverage

there is a proper and safer tool for the job , i built my own but you can by them , and you wont risk damage to the piston or the seal..

that is not a good idea to use a c clap
mmar4281990 2 years ago
I do not think so either. So, is it better to disconnect the calliper form the hydraulic system and reset the piston?

It's Easy, Anyone can do it!

when putting the calipers back on how much do the bolts need to be tightened?

@nightmathzombieethan "This prevents any damage to the piston by spreading the pressure evenly on the piston."
Nah, there's no chance of that happening when the piston is more than halfway into the cylinder.
I always do it using a big pair of channel locks, it takes 2 seconds!

When your adjusting the caliper, do you leave the reservoir cap open or just keep it on? They told me that the fluid absorbs oxygen, which is bad.
LostInMadness220 4 years ago
Buddy told me to leave it on but don't screw it on so it will just rest on. You screw it on later
