I think Honduran Punta has changed to fit the more latin american styles of dance. Punta Rock seems to fit a more Carribean style. The real Punta comes from the Garifuna, not that is pure Punta. His songs in the Garifuna language added electric guitar to the traditional punta rhythm. Cayetano's style caught on quickly in Belize and from there spread to Garifuna communities in Honduras and Guatemala.
So Punta started in Belize so is 100% from Belize, but migrated across the Garifuna populations around the Caribeen and then up into the States

Punta is Punta, doesn't matter where it comes from its awesome! I'm Honduran and I feel punta to be part of me. Plus, Honduran Punta is not that similar to Belizean Punta. I think Honduran Punta has changed to fit the more latin american styles of dance. Punta Rock seems to fit a more Carribean style. The real Punta comes from the Garifuna, not that is pure Punta. Amazing! Long Live Belieze, Honduras, and Guatemala! :D

Musician and visual artist Pen Cayetano and the Turtle Shell Band introduced punta rock in 1978, at 5 Moho Street, Dangriga, Belize. His songs in the Garifuna language added electric guitar to the traditional punta rhythm. Cayetano's style caught on quickly in Belize and from there spread to Garifuna communities in Honduras and Guatemala.
So Punta started in Belize so is 100% from Belize, but migrated across the Garifuna populations around the Caribeen and then up into the States

just put the name "PEN CAYETANO" into the search box on here and you will see all the references to him being the creator of Punta rock
I love Punta no matter where it comes from, Belize Honduras, Guatemala. it makes no difference the music is all good, but you have to agree it started in Belize.
My favorite music comes from LaBuga, but I love punta from anywhere including Honduras and Belize

Guys, why are you having an arguement about where is Punta from is obviously came from Honduras. I live in Belize 5 years and the only punta they have is street dance like this, but they main influence is Honduras, like Nuru, the hitters Garifuna kids back in 1995. Last time they were interview a Belizean Punta Grupo in Stereo amor , from El Venque and love fm and they were saying that most of them are from Honduras . La ceiba. That's where the real carnival of Punta are held. YOU TELL ME !!
