  • Mick Taylor is thousand miles or may be light years far better than Keef or Ronnie. To me, Mick Taylor is the best vibrato guitarist in the world. Isn't it a shame that he doesn't feature on any of the 100 best guitarists of all time lists? After Jones' demise, the stones were done with, and with MT they had a second coming. He allowed them to become an arena band while they were a garage band. Listen, to all the songs MT played with the stones, pure talent! I only own stones albums with MT in em.

  • @TheCasawi35

Mick T. is big. The M stands for Music and Melody. He gave the Stones melody, especially on stage. After him they were a different band. Not very special, as I saw and heard in 1976 The Hague (little stadium) and 1982 Rotterdam (big stadium).

But 1973 Rotterdam arena with MT was fantastic and unforgettable.

  • @kleermaker1000 I was born years after MT left the stones, and My brother introduced me to the stones when I was a kid. That goes to show great music will live on. I just fell in love with MT's era with the stones, they were magic, they sounded like a solid band. As you said, MT allowed them to shine on stage, and you can hear how the whole band was enjoying playing music. I never understood why the stones are not releasing shows from that era. Peace!

  • @TheCasawi35 you got it right "ace"

  • @TheCasawi35 The fact that Taylor does not feature on any greatest 100 list simply shows the ignorance of the people voting in these meaningless polls. You only have to listen to him for 30 seconds to know that he has no equal - I know that is a bold statement, but it's true. As you say, just pure talent.

  • @broadband0118 Circa 2000, I fell on Brussels Affair, and even the quality wasn't stellar. I enjoyed every bit of that bootleg. It was all MIck.T. The solo in You Can't Always Get What You Want in Brussels affair was out of this world. You can hear Mick.T's influence on Slash, who mentioned MT as one of his idols. After MT, The rolling stones became a watered down version of themselves, more like a cover band. What gets me is MT never got his dues. Peace!

  • Keef was also playing open E tuning in these days - a more delta bluesy sound for me than the later open G tuning. Open G is good but more optimistic...

  • Mick Taylor is just one of the best guitar player in the world. He got fet up with Keith Richard and walk way.

  • Mick Taylor was the best thing that ever happened to The Rolling Stones. His guitar in this song is crazy good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a loss for them. Ronnie is adequate, Mick is Mick... They don't get better than that.. They have never been as good.... Never will. His slide guitar is unreal.

  • Clapton may be God, but I bet God wishes he was Mick Taylor!

  • Don't forget Brian! The founder of the Stones. He was an amazing musician. Wonder what the Stones would have evolved into thru the 70s and 80s if he was able to stay with them? They might have sounded a bit different.

  • Mr. Taylor, why oh why did you ever leave?

  • The Rolling Stones were just average when Mick Taylor left, then they were no better than Led Zeppelin, The Who and others. Mick Taylor with the Rolling Stones were the god of rock music! What came next: Black Crowes, White Stripes, but not everything nice The Mick Taylor Rolling Stones. Mick Taylor Stonesfan one misses you in this band. Thank you for the great music Mick Taylor with the Rolling Stones!

  • blah!!! and???

  • Yeah, i was watching a video one of their tours and Keith was playing most of the leads with Ronnie just filling in --

  • Bill wasn't the one in the spotlight but his bass was an important part of their sound -- not the same without him

  • Andoy1, I think your comments are spot on. Wyman's departure is often overlooked even more that the unreplaceable Taylor.

  • keith is totaly music....and ron....and taylor solo.....

  • Just a diversion, who also thinks some of the punch is gone without Bill on Bass? He had a unique pulsing sound that's missing since he left in '92 .. with all due respect to Daryl..

  • Ronnie was interesting during the 70's but after that his playing suffered .. watch videos of them live, he's barely playing two notes while Keith is usually carrying the bulk of it .,, In fact, I don't think Ronnie's style, from the Faces, really fit in well with the Stones, contrary to what some say - and of course, MT was better ..

  • ps is that a 59' he's playin?

  • Andoy1 I couldn't agree more.. Ronnie is a good guy. Mick Taylor is a genius. He had to leave the band. He was getting addicted to drugs and wasn't getting the song writing credits he deserved... He was frustrated. He was also cut from the royalties from the songs he contributed to in 1982. If I were Mick T......, I would hire a good attorney and sue the pants off of them.. He also couldn't handle the in-fighting that was going on.. He wasn't a diva, just a master guitarist...

  • Mick Taylor was and is one of the finast guitarist to ever pick a note. The boys put out not much more than drivvle after he left. WE love you Mick Taylor.B

  • The Earth suffered the day Mick Taylor left the Roliing Stones...We still miss that connection....

  • too many micks...

  • Thank the Lord that most of you understand how amazing Mick Taylor was,,,IS? It has nothing to do with better songs in the taylor years! Could Ronnie ever play half this tasty? NOT A CHANCE! Ronnie cared more about the H and the teenage girls, while Mick taylor cared more about the music than "THE LIFE!" Think about it, WHO QUITS THE STONES??? Preety cool in a way. You play on 4 of the greatest rock albums ever made and then tell Mick and the boys "things just are not working out for me..see ya"

  • @keithmoon29 Thank fuck I have found people who realise what a total genius Taylor was. I love that man's playing like I can't put into words. Those few short years with the Stones produced the best music ever made. Ronnie Wood, in hindsight, was the worst choice they could ever have made as replacement.

  • I like keith richards but in reality and he would agree to im sure that he is "Shit" compared to mick

  • Mick T and Keith at their finest,,,never will be a better band.

  • Ronnie may fit in better with the band, but MT played better ... honestly i listen to Ronnie and although he's a good guy, i dont hear him adding much to the sound.... anyone agree?

  • @Andoy1 agree 100%. The top was when I read that Jagger missed Taylor, that he was a great music partner. I imagine that must have had some special meaning during Keith's hard years. Taylor turned the stones into a serious stadium band that could compete against other virtuoso bands like Zepp. Kudos to him!!

  • @Andoy1 Adding,no. Blending? Yes ! Absolutely. That's why he's the best match for Keith's playing. Whereas Mick Tayor was a session player that got to stand in the front line. Of course I love the MT era the best, but you can't blame Ronnie for the decline of the Stones' live or studio output. That was coming for a while regardless of whoever was in the band at the time. MT left the band for just that reason. But the first 5-6 years w/Ronnie are as classic as any era of the Stones.

  • @Andoy1 Mick was just a Monster for his age. I am a respected guitarist but at his age at that time....... Man. JGN NOLA

  • @Andoy1 what does 'fit in better with the band' mean?! Huh? Taylor lifted the band to other heights, Ronnie's just there in case Keith has a momentary lapse. ronnie was great with faces but not needed with Stones 'tall. Just listen to that riff at 3'44" - Mick did that ALL THE TIME and the solo that follows.. forget it man. Let's get it together

  • @Andoy1 Do I agree?? How could anyone NOT agree. Taylor was a genious, Ronnie is a likeable makeweight who isn't fit to string Taylor's guitar.

  • @Andoy1 You're totally wrong listen to what Ronnie did with Rod Stewart. The thing with Taylor was the Stones always repressed his playing on all the physical recordings. It was only live they let him shine. Stones were never a guitar solo band or a jam band like the Grateful Dead. It was always about the songs. Brian, Taylor, and Ronnie all were vital to the sound. Without Ronnie there would be no Some Girls, Tattoo You, etc.

Comparing these guys is like comparing the Beatles vs. the Stones.

  • @Andoy1 anyway without Bill Wyman the Stones are shit. Bill was the anchor. They've sucked ever since. Even if it was still with Taylor or Jones. Wyman is the fucking Stones.

  • @Andoy1 I agree they had a golden guitar player with Mick Taylor, difficult for Wood to do better

  • @Andoy1 forgot to mention that Brian was probably the best musician they ever had.He played a lot of insstruments

  • @Andoy1 Charlie Watts said they were at their best musically when Mick Taylor was in the band.

  • go mick taylor the stones best years.

  • i think woodie is a great guitarist but what MR MICK TAYLOR brought to the band is irreplaceable... most of the songs on albums after MICK T left were originals he played on in the early seventies..they just rehabbed them..

  • @mtaylor1969ful I agree Ronnie is overlooked & under-rated. Yet it's obvious Mick Taylor played w/ more fluidity, style, and panache than Ronnie. And Mick & Keith were writing far better songs, the whole band was on fire. Sure they did some good work (sometimes even excellent) after Mick Taylor left, but the band just got bogged down in drugs, women & wealth. They never recovered fully.

  • @donedave although I suppose getting bogged down in drugs, women & wealth ain't a bad way to burn out or fade away (which the Stones haven't done- at least not completely)

  • @donedave I'd keep the drugs in moderation, but women and wealth ..... ;-D

  • @mtaylor1969ful Of Course !!!!

  • probably my favorite version of the song! thanks so much for posting, mick taylors guitar and musicianship made the rolling stones a great live band. for those who dont understand that and think ronnie does a good job on anything, i pity them. i at least get a few laughs out of hearing ronnie's attempts at playing these tunes. i love taylors soaring octave drops at the end on the final choruses, amazing!

  • What an irreplaceable ASSET Mr. Mick Taylor was.His musical contribution and exceptional talent is sorely missed.Kleermaker1000:In the future, please feature more examples of the peerless Mick Taylor. Thanks again.
