  • Im a chevy man all the way and this does seem fast but I just watched several different races of a Z6 vette and every damn thing he raced outrun him,,I dont get it man,,,even a little shity looking car of some kind outrun him through a quater mile,,maybe there not as fast as thye seem.

  • What some people fail to realize is that every car has a "optimal shit point". This shift point is the spot where the engine puts out peak power, EX. This corvette may a shift point between 4700 and 5500. It is best to learn where this spot is on your car or racer as it will not only maximize speed, but it will make your car or racer sound quite nice.

  • Even tho Manual may get better mileage in some situations, many people by them to be "cool." But in reality except in the U.S., any granny knows how to drive manual so its stupid to buy it if you just wanna look cool.

  • Actually the C5 ZO6 has a 5.7L V8. The 2005-07 have the LS2 or 6.0 liter and the 2008+ have the LS3 or 6.2L .

  • Nothing wrong with an auto people, with a tiny bit of work they will kill a stick hands down every time.

  • Lets face it less and less people know how to drive stick shift these days, especially if you live in a city, where it sucks to drive stick. Thankfully I learned early.

  • The 6.0 liter LS2 was in the C6 from 2005-2007. In 2008+ the C6 went to the 6.2 liter LS3 engine. The 2005 C6 had the 4L65 4 speed auto and the 2006+ have the 6L80 6 speed auto which is proving to be quite reliable even when supercharged. Remember these are all electronically controlled transmissions. Go for a ride in one that was tuned and the shift points are higher and super quick tire barking shifts.

  • @RikJag Oops my mistake I just looked it up. I didn't know they had a 6 liter vette other than the c5 zo6. The new ones are a 6.2 that's what threw me off.

  • @kowclubproductions There was definitely a 6.0 liter vette, they 2005-2007 vette was the LS2, which was 6.0 liters. The 2008-present C6s have a 6.2 liter LS3, which is not all that different that the LS2, just with a lil more power.

  • The only downside of the auto is that You can't do drifts. If it goes for performance/fuel economy/comfort the auto beats the manual hands down. Im 23 and I drive daily in one of the biggest european capitol. Trust me auto is a saviour. If I ever buy a vette it will be an auto. But If I'll want fun I'll just pick up a z06 or an M6 smg.

  • You buy an automatic because you want it as an everyday drive or have paddle shifts. I would not prefer an manual only because I have gotten tired of shifting an mustang gt standard EVERY day. The best combo is an a6 with paddle shifts

  • Too bad people still have the thought stuck in their head that most all automatics are worse in performance and efficiency than manuals, when in reality, MOST all automatics today are far more efficient in terms of shift quality, performance, and overall efficiency than their predecessors and many manual transmission built today. Especially with dual clutch automatics making their appearance.

  • Stock vs stock, your WS6 would get the shit kicked out of it especially against a 2008+ LS3 C6 auto. They only run low 12s @ 117+ mph all day. Quite a few videos on youtube to back up my statement.

I have had these manual vs automatic arguments for years and have beaten every manual driver I ever came across in either my 87 Grand National or y turbocharged 99 GT. These days a manual makes a difference on a road course and that is about it. The new semi-automatics shift faster than any human ever will and showing up in all supercars.

Anyone of any age can pick up a gun and pull the trigger.. anyone can punch the gas and hold the steering wheel.. on the other hand, when you use your fists fighting, its whoever knows what they are doing, and how good they are.. same applies to manual transmissions.   • Best to buy the biggest engine you can afford and put some forced induction on it. Someone on YouTube claims he has a C6 ZO6 (7.0L, 427, 505hp), and has added a Procharger. He claims to be running 10 flat in the 1/4mi, and I'd be inclined to believe that, and it's quite a bit faster than the ZR1, with it's smaller 6.2L supercharged engine, and it cost less, even after the modifications.

  • I do too but to me it's is an affordable supercar cuz the zr1 stomps on almost everything except for the enzo so you gotta have that midway daily driver and that's the z06 imo but if you look up the class of it, it is in the same class as lambo's and all

  • and tksemipro your wrong...the Zr1 is indeed faster then the Z06...but not by much...it is a 120hp difference...but the top speed ain't too much of a diference and it only does 0-60 .3 seconds faster...z06 runs at 3.6 and zr1 runs at 3.3...i'd defenetly consider both exotics or as the kids call em "super cars"

  • @severo2012 yea the camaro is like a poor mans vette I never thought of it like that before and the zr1 is all about top end and race track use better suspension bigger tires better aerodynamics but in a 1/4 mile suprisingly not any faster the zr1 and z06 are both running high 10's with a highly experienced driver I can't figure that 1 out the zr1 must be hard to launch right or something and just to correct it's a 133 hp difference but you were deffinateley in the ball park

  • Severo2012, what the hell are you talking about? First of all, Camaros were introduced as a 1967 model year, NOT 1969. Second, it was introduced as a competitor to the original "Pony Car". The Mustang..

    I'm a Chevy guy, but the bottom line is simple. With no Mustang, there would be NO Camaro. The Camaro is just a competitor, based on the idea of the Mustang, in order to get sales going after that horrid Corvair went down the tubes.

    It was never meant to be a budget 'Vette. Study up.

  • @kcole939 Actually I thought it was more like Chevy made the Corvette so Ford made the Mustang, and then Chevy decided to make the Corvette more then a pony car and released the Camaro to stay in competition with the Mustang, and then much later Ford released the GT40 to Compete with the Corvette. Idk could be wrong but the Vette was out in '62 before both Camaros and Mustangs were, so thats how I always thought it went.

  • @DystruktoBoi1 Chevy made the Corvette to compete with Nash Motor's Nash-Healey in the early 1950's. Ford did not make the Mustang to compete with anything, just to be a new car. Then, since the Corvair wasn't getting sales, Chevy unveiled the Camaro, which was meant to be faster, better looking, and priced similarly to the Mustang, to compete with it.

    I love all of them though. I own an old '86 Z28, and I'm currently saving for an '01-'04 Rustang GT. I mean, Mustang.

  • @DystruktoBoi1 Wait, I didn't fully answer your question. No, the Corvette was never meant to be a pony car. The Corvette originally had an inline 6, and was an extremely light roadster, with an all fiberglass body.

    The Corvette was basically an American version of the typical MG, Austin Healey, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, and so on. An American-British sports car, if you will.

My dream car is a 1990 (cuz thats my birth year) Iroc-Z28 with the 5.7L Corvette engine :) funny how the Corvette went from Roadster to supercar, and Chevy doesn't even make a cool Roadster anymore,the closest they've come since then is the 2 door convertible Cavalier Z24s.

  • I have the auto in my c6, and I love it.

  • I have done a lot of research on the A6(6L80) and it is an awesome transmission. Just by its sheer clutch to clutch operation makes it able to take alot of abuse. I can't wait to get an 06-07 Vette with the A6. I have seen a few supercharged C6 A6s trapping almost 130 mph on the stock transmission.

  • With newer Corvettes, the autos are just as fast as manual transmissions..But when it came down for me to choose, I went went the stick shift on my C6. With a stick shift, I'm in total control of the car.

    (btw the Vette in the video was a 2005)

  • hi guys. the auto's are definately quicker in a drag especially in powerful cars.

    I am in Australia and I have a HSV and that has the LS2 engine and mines auto and the standard ratio is 3:46. I have done very minor work to it such as a tune and exhaust. and now have the same power output as a standard LS7 engine.

    I dragged a car identical to mine with similar power and I won every time. I get more ahead with every gear change as mine shift at 0.3 sec. There is no way you can do that with

  • Because auto is more reliable in drag racing... I can't think of much use for auto besides the convenience and drag racing tournaments. I'd take a manual any day for less drive train loss, gas mileage, and fun.

  • @ATeamOps0391 yeah I don't think people realize that. I drag race an auto mustang (shift kit and high stall) and always get within .1 seconds of my time. If I race my Z06 I will never get the same time over and over again. I rarely see manual drivers get the same time every time.

    stall converters and gear drives pretty much make an auto a good choice, especially on muscle cars.

  • You re right! In the (modified+ stall converter) Corvette world, Automatic transmissions are quicker. This coming from someone with a 6-speed in my Vette.....lol. If a car doesn t have alot of power, a manual makes IT faster by getting it into the powerband quicker.

  • Getrag manuals can transmit 2500Nm and 2000Hp. Automatic can the same numbers but for drag is better semi-automatic.

  • If you buy a pre 08 model you can get a head and cam package for less than 2,000 that will get you above 500 HP. Or you can get an STS turbo and get 700 RWHP cheap. or get an intake with exhaust work and still get into the 3 second 0-60 times and top speed of 190.

    I am going to buy an '05 C6 for pretty cheap, and just mod it up from there. A 2006 Z06 is too expensive. But, it does have a 7.0 L 427 that I like, whereas the C6 has a 6.0 366 small block..
