It seems from the comments that competitive rowing turns a lot of people into jerks. I didn't see where the video was trying to instruct you on competitive rowing technique. Not everyone who goes out on the water to enjoy rowing is interested in a race, just as anyone who goes out to run, swim or play a sport.
Thought this the most hilarious thing at first, but the repetitiveness of the film does do justice to rowing, and thought there were a few good elements towards the end. I will definitely have those drum beats in my head when rowing next time!
sorry but this isnt rowing, theres never been a morning iv rowed thats been like that, the water is ever that still, u cant listen to music like that, nd theres a lot of pain nd sweat and anger. nd i have a better boat than u
Hey! Great video! I don't row, but I erg, which is sort of the same thing I guess. Anyways, your video led me to buy the complete Cello Suites by Bach. Pure genius!
@mclovin87u veeeerrryyy DIFERENT xD i row normal, and row erg like to strenght and resistance training, but its definitely VERY different, and its WAY better normal rowing, you should try it sometime ;)
@Hypercheer4826 def true, though im VERY lazy i do have 2 wake up very early 2 train in the morning, and its when i MOST like to row (: (although i would wish it was like that later in the day cuz i HATE waking up early D: but i guess i like more rowing than i hate waking up early... xD)
I duct-taped a mini dv camera to a bike helmet which I wore on my head while I rowed; I also strapped a camera set on a small tripod to the stern of the scull, again with massive amounts of duct-tape and some rope I think.
WD stands for water displacer, 40 is the 40th formula,,,,,, And after the water is out, and the item is unStuck-unSeized, then the lubricants should be applied. So, Tri-Flow with the teflon lubricant is probably a nicer choice from the get-go
LOL they are sculling in bathtubs! plus try and push down with ur hands soo no water slapping cause that pisses every1 off in the boat....lol but yea cool man cool vid:)

Could there be a sillier "sport"? As a private school teacher I've participated in and coached soccer, hockey, fencing, tae kwondo, volleyball, alpine skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, and just finished my last year (hopefully) of coaching crew. I've ridden across the U.S. twice by bicycle, so the idea of splashing back and forth in the same pond while facing the wrong way just seems ridiculous.
Pay attention: I've just FINISHED my last year of rowing. I spent six years "trying it" so mine is not an uninformed opinion, but the position of someone who has been to Worcester and Henley. If you don't know those names YOU are the one rushing to judgement.
in a twisted way, rowers enjoy pain when moving in perfect synch with seven other people. they also are ok with getting up at 4:30 in the morning to perfect that synch. or wear spandex and stick water bottles in their shorts, along with an assortment of other crap. it's fine that you don't like it, but don't blatantly insult one the oldest, best, most disciplined sports in the world

I cannot think of an activity other than torture that inspires more anger and fear than rowing. The sounds of the squeaking boats and the rush of water reminds me of the reasons I hate it.
Tomorrow I'm competing against other schools in the National Rowing Championships of Britain. In the weeks before the races I have attended no practices to try and convince my coaches to drop me. No matter what I do now I will attend the race. It'll be the last time I row.

rowing sucks wang, did it for like 2 years and it sucks, fkn cold in the winter doin it on the thames in london, such a dirty place to row in, a body was found in the water where we rowed!!
the technique is not bad at all. And the quietness... the serenity ! For Gods Sake ! I think I should start rowing again ! Alone on the 'Watersportbaan' in Ghent ! All alone on the rowing canal !
i fell off the skull on sunday morning!lol! the water was freezing!! anyways Skulling is a lot harder for me, i hate skulling, when my coach says 'we're doing skulling today' i feel like running away lol
WOW! I haven't been near or seen a shell or oars in a while. I hurt my back recently and was contemplating whether rowing again would be something to strengthen my back. This has put me back in the frame of mind for doing it!!!
I just about your comment of the hands... It's not true that the right hand has to lead over the left. Germany is the best Think in the east side of Berlin you lead the right over the left and in the west side you get it other way round.. so in the end look at the last rowing championship in Munich... every country, nearly every city has his on rowing style...
to the video on itselfe... nice pictures and my respect to the pictures. I would have fear about my camera
Interesting idea... however i was expecting something a lot more. For a true rowing experience i would choose someone who can actually scull in a racing shell as opposed to a tub scull. Deffinitally skying and missing water at the catch and the most obviously annoying thing is the fact that the right hand has an excessive lead over the left. All this video did was get me to obsess over the poor technique. i agree with the squeaky slides... WD40 people
i liked the the video, maybe I'm being paranoid becuause it is my biggest problem while rowing but almost looked you were missing water, just a teeny bit, i thought i also some scying of the blade. My biggest problem with it is that the video does seem complete like there could something added to it.
ur legs are closed to tight on the catch and you handle the oar too lightly. beginning looks like its from the movie rowing through with the mist on the water. the rest looks kinda crappy as far as being "abstract"
Thats crap. ok they need to tap down a bit more, but you have to grip the handle lightly otherwise you begin to tense up. and wat is "closed to tight on the catch" meant to mean? hmm someone's trying to be clever by the seems of it, but failed...
this movie sucks because there aren't any real message conveyed in it. all it shows is the oar squaring and feathering and the rower's crotch moving up and down the slide. plus trying to make rowing look like some peaceful "row row row your boat gently down the stream" type thing is an insult to competetive rowers.
First you say there is no message, then that it is trying to make rowing look in a certain way. That's kind of contradictory.
If you had stayed with it for the whole part you would have seen two singles rowing it out to some wacky indian tribal drummy war music and so those instincts were also captured to some extension. Sure, the rowers could not bring elite rowing, but the emotion was there in the film.
whats song name???? Name of song pleae!!!!

i am sorry you feel that way about the most perfect team sport there is.
with hockey, soccer, blah blah, there can be an under-par teammate and have other make up for him, in rowing one slacker will lose the race
so i hope you don't row anymore if you can't appreciate it as such a beautiful sport
