You are so patient with your art, do you always work like that, or only in tutorials? I have a problem with pacing myself, I keep working so fast to the point where I can't go on anymore. I wish I had patience with my art.
Yes, slow and steady! I can work fast, but generally when and I work I am going at this pace. Its about keeping focused and relaxed, this is what i enjoy doing! Take your time and think before you put the pen down.
I like the kind of crossover between realism and abstract, but I can't seem to do it! I always have to make sure all of my colors fade in and out of eachother. No harsh lines. Or else I'll throw it away.
But I do LOVE the way you did this. I simply don't know if I'd be able to use the same technique.
I have a question for you. I've had some issues with the initial graphite sketch contaminating and creating a shade of the color mix I intended to apply on the canvas. Am I laying down too much graphite? Or is there a specific technique?
@Valleyartify What I do is put a thin watered down layer of gesso over my pencil sketch, or spray some fixative over it. One or the other. My painting 101 teacher gave me that tip when I asked him the same question you just asked.
I have a question for you. Can I mix it with the simple oil painting technique with oil pastels? Can I draw with an oil pastel on an oil painted layer? I'm painting now, but I really want to finish it until christmas, maybe it can be a little bit faster. What do you think? thanks a lot for your reply!
One thing I love about oil paints is the smell. The turps, linseed oil and of course the paint. Makes you really feel like you're creating something, it's not the same using Corel Painter. These are excellent trailers sir!
YEAH MY TEACHER PUT THAT OILY BRUSH IN THE TEA INSTEAD OF THE TURP HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA THAT WAS EPIC HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...... U REMINDED ME OF THAT MAN GREAT :)
I have to say this has been one of the best step by step videos in portrait painting! Now I have a much better understanding of the mosaic technique as you described it. Many thanks for sharing. Learning to paint a portrait was never so much fun too:-)
It's was kinda annoying in the beginning because of his not funny jokes and coughing and uncleared voice. And where is underpaint?

My opinion is that you should have worked it all together..too much time spent working the eye socket without any general progress.

Relax and have fun
The viewers eye will go were ever the contrast is.
Keep the painting soft and then make one area sharp.
Kinda cool huh?

I use the palette knife to mix paint.
It does sound like fun to do a painting with one.
I may give it a try.
Take care
