Hey Allan its me again. Just wanted to ask one more question. While shooting in street situations like this do you do light setup its just the sunlight and you are just shooting from correct angle? Especially i want to know how you did it at that night part because there is no noise in the footage. Or you used strong backlight? However first I thought was that you just shot it around 7-8 pm and then just darkened your shoot at the editing process. Am I right?
Yo, allan. I know you use final cut, but have you heard about Final Cut X or something? It apparently has all of the features of FCP, but you don't have to download and install all sorts of stuff... It's being released in june, and it's going to be like $300.
@magicdad10 I've heard all about Final Cut X. I'm very excited to see what Apple comes up with and what happens to the rest of the applications in the Final Cut Studio suite.
@magicdad10 It is the same. The only way to get Final Cut Pro is to get Final Cut Studio, which is a post production suite containing a lot of software that should basically be sufficient for post-production on a professional-level project, from organizing to editing to compositing/sound post, color grading and mastering/DVD authoring.
@saintsuro I don't, as AE isn't editing software. It's compositing/VFX software, and thus, not very suitable for editing. I personally use Final Cut Pro. A lot of my friends use Avid.
@CardMagician Thanks for replying, What about premiere pro? As I know final cut is for Macs. I was using Sony Vegas but now I want to use more professional programs.
@saintsuro I don't consider Premiere Pro a "professional" program. It always comes down to Final Cut and Avid. Avid runs on PCs - but in the end, Macs are the optimal platform for working with video/film editing.
@saintsuro Premiere Pro? I don't like it at all. Don't ask me - I'll be biased towards Final Cut either way, since it's kind of what I "grew up" with.
@saintsuro My pleasure! My best tip to you would be to obtain trial versions of a lot of different editing programs. Find a friend with a Mac and try Final Cut, or just go to an Apple store. Try it out. Go for what you end up liking best. :)
I went with Final Cut because it was the new industry standard when I learned how to edit. It was the program you'd wanna know in the business. I tried it out, and fell in love with it.
@saintsuro Not really - most of film making you can't learn from a book, or a class, or a site. It's all about learning by doing. Watch a lot of good film, get inspired, and then go out and make something yourself. It is honestly how I did it, and how a lot of truly great film makers did it.
The most beautiful part of this video is the ending. "Artist Dan Buck", to outsiders we are just people playing with cards, but this is ART. Those in the Cardistry community, we are artists. We are ARTISTS
@calmakris It's very hard to describe exactly what I did. I made the colors warmer. I added a red and yellow hue. I played with the luma curves until the contrast looked sharper and nicer. I saturated it. There's not much more to it - you just have to play around with it until it looks good.
@PopoRanger The footage wasn't very grainy. It was a lot brighter than it ended up in the video. Lowering the shadow/black levels to gain contrast during color grading reduced some of the grain that was there.
@lianpalima It's really not that much about the camera or the lenses. They're just tools after all. I bet I could make the same video with cheap kit lenses and a cheaper camera. I prefer to use proper tools though - they make the job so much easier!
@CardMagician Yes, I agree that it's not the camera/lenses but the cameraman but you said, "I bet I could make the same video with cheap kit lenses". Well, I bet you can't get a bright enough shot of the dawn with a 3.5-5.6 kit lens. :)
@lianpalima The "dawn" shots were shot at ƒ/4-ƒ/8, as they weren't during dawn, but in the middle of the day. The "dusk" shots at Griffith Observatory however were all shot wide open at 1.4, but I could easily have boosted the sensor and gotten a decent image at ƒ/3.5!
@lianpalima Haha, I know! It would never be the same. You should at least have one fast prime. I love fast primes - they're the only lenses I use, pretty much.
Wow. I'm speechless. The music, flow, cinematography, and amazing flourishes all combine into a wave of awesomeness. Simply stunning is all I have to say. These are the types of videos that inspire me to work harder and become better at cardistry. Thank you.

And I love how Arms and Sleepers song adds nostalgic atmosphere to the video. By the way, they are going to give a live show in my city soon. I'm excited, whoah!
I didn't use a tripod - but for some shots, I used a monopod. It helps a lot - but if you've ever used one, you'll know it's nothing like a tripod at all.
