Does anyone know who first made this song popular in the late fifties ? I have the recording on my portable, got it off you tube but cant find it anymore there .
Hardest rockin party band,, that,s an understatement! These guys where a non stop party. Take a good look here. I know it,s staged but their shows were pretty dame close. Seen them at Chicago ampitheatre back in 70 something. One of the best concerts I,ve ever been to. It was close to what you see here. No shit!!
@DaveWollenberg -- He left at the right time, when Seth Justman was making them more synth-oriented and less blues-driven band. Glad they patched it up, though, and are out there doin' their boogie-woogie, shiffle-shuffle, housepartyin' supreme!!!
Can't get enough of this song. This is great. Bought my first J Geils Band record in 1984 (Showtime! from 1982) and this record still run. What a great day for rock & roll.
I was just reading the Gram Parson's biography and learned that a song (Cry One More Time) that appeared on his first release "GP" was actually a J. Geils song. Does anyone have this posted?--Also learned about the Peter Wolf big Eff You to the radio station he worked at-locking the doors and playing the Five Royales "Think" over and over. J. Geils band- cooler than I was aware of!
Opps, they're actually playing at the arena at Mohegan Sun Casino in CT, not Foxwoods! But anyways, yeah they love Detroit as well as New England. Lol...u make it sound like they are ALL gonna die sometime soon...why do u make it sound that way? I just saw them in April @ The House of Blues in Boston and they were AMAZING! Still going strong!
no i think they're gonna live a good long time but i'm quite the procrastinator so i need to make up my mind now to see them within the next 2 decades. plus, i'm drunk and not really making sense.
This song is so infectious that it jumps generational lines. I had this song cranking from my car (as I always do with this song) several years back, and some h.s. age types fell right into step with the rhythm. It's my favorite J. Geils song to this day. I remember when this video came out and how envious I was of Peter Wolf, all those hotties mauling him on the stage. Then before you knew it, he went solo. Such is the rock world.
Gawd I remember this concert. They used to come here and spend a week playing here. Ive seen JGB probly 10 times over the years and everyshow was a blast. The energy level was amazing everytime. Now my little ones listen and love their music too. Come back to Detroit JGband!!! We'll be there!
I've loved this song since I first heard it in '82 or so. If this doesn't put you in a good mood, nothing will! It has a 1950's feel to it, as well as a ska feel. To me, this is the greatest ska song of all time. I wish radio stations would play this instead of the same 25 classic rock songs we've heard a billion times!
I just happen to get comp tickets and jumped at the chance to see them!!! Outrageous!! I'm amazed at the energy that they put into their performance. Stood for 3 hours and loved every minute of it.
dnt read this(cuz it really wrks). u will gt kissd on the nearest frieday by the love of ur life. 2mara wll b the bst day of ur life hwever if you dnt post ths comment 2 at least 3 vids u will die withn 2 days
@ttraynor1 And a then we Deeeetroiters are blessed to have them take over "Pine Knob" once again just last week. Outdoors...beautiful weather....in the house that geils used to SELL-OUT 6-nights in a row. Magic (Dick) happens again. I will never forget the fury the band AND the audience brought that night.
I am from Detroit these guys were huge here. I seen the last tour summer of 1999 and the New Years Eve show that same year. Tickets go on sale April 2 for a show at the Fillmore in Detroit on April 24. I can't wait!
Killer B3 player and a monster harmonica, and you've got The J Giels Band. HUGELY under rated historicaly.
One of my favorite drummers of all time Stephen Jo Bladd. They have reunited for some great shows recently, but I don't think Stephen Jo showed up. Bummer.
Hey Axe, the Truth is your clueless. Geils was the hardest rockin houseparty band of all time! They just reunited in Boston the other night and apparently they STILL are!
They were the greatest. I saw every show when they to the SF area. Very entertaining. They seldom produced a song that was bad. Very original. They should be in the hall of fame.
Loooooove this song to death! It's so catchy and cute. It's the kind of song that you turn up to a higher volume and sing along to when you hear it being played on the radio.
Although this band did receive good publicity, and sold millions of albums back in the day...they are still highly under rated,in my opinion.NOT in the hall of fame? What a joke. One of the best,if not thee best, live party bands ever.
Great video! I remember this from the early MTV days. Always loved those shots of the girls tackling Peter. The girl with the blue top at about 2:20 always stuck in my mind for some reason, as does the girl who runs over to J Geils (which appears to be taken from a completely different song, as he's playing a Dan Armstong clear Lucite guitar, instead of the black Gibson he plays in the rest of the song).
Cleveland local legend Michael Stanley had a great line about girls running onstage to tackle musicians like that. He said these girls would get onstage (apparently after his manager told the security guards to "let just a couple through") and he'd say, "OK, GREAT! You're onstage! NOW what?! You're not expecting us to have sex or something right here, are you?!"
Ya know, I remember spotting that back when MTV used to play the video when it first came out. And you're probably right. She's probably saying something like "I'll do anything to spend the night with you" or something like that. LOL
I went to see J Geils at Cobo for my friends 16th birthday, she drank six bottles of boones farm and I couldnt find her the whole concert. When the show was over she was outside with a security guard with vomit all over her long sweater...and we had to hitch hike home...The Good Old Days!
Me and MY friend jam to this every now and then. My friend on guitar, me on sax. Notrhing beat the first time when it just broke out by accident. Another friend was on drums and started playing the beat and my friend started playing the guitar line and I jjust looked over and said "is this what I think it is" and he started laughing.
Wow! I finally found it...the music video that had the Leslie set-up like I've never seen before. Two 122's with the horn half of two more chopped and mounted on top of the first 2. This is probably the best live band ever....if you want a real treat, get their live album "Full House" recorded @ the Grande Ballroom in Detroit...My Mom was the biggest J. Geils fan ever and I grew up listening to this music over and over again. Love these cats! Thank you for posting.
