  • I like to imagine that most people in the audience didn't know what John Cage's 4'33" was and were thoroughly confused for the entire thing.

  • A wonderful arrangement of the work. The counterpoint between the oboe and the viola is quite ingenious. Of particular interest is the textural change a 2.36. This work solves the age-old problem of knowing a viola is playing out of tune by seeing that the bow is moving; with the bow stationary as it is for most of the work, the viola sounds perfectly tuned. This is certain to become the performance of 4'33" to which all others are compared.
