I'm confused ... I thought that the special magnetized rollers and plates would interface with eachother like magnetic gears... but that's not what I'm seeing here. They seem to be instead spinning at the same speed, whereas with gears, the small one spins faster than the larger (the ratio in rpm's being the same as the ratio of the two gear sizes).

They do interface like helical-cut gears made out of magnetic-poles, instead of solid-material, and the fact that they are helical cut makes them motor, along with the EMF flowing in one-direction thru the device, Positive polarity at the center or hub, negative at the outer runner sets. But, as I said, the small roller and the big wheel seem to be spinning at the same rate. Watching the motor to the left and the motion-blurred pattern on the small roller at the same time, one can easily see that they remain in sync, whereas if the behavior were like gears then small roller ought to be spinning quite a bit faster than the motor. What I appear to be seeing here could, I'm afraid, also be done with plain ordinary magnets, to the best of my understanding.

That's sort of what I was getting at... I don't see anything here that can't be done with ordinary magnets, because the smaller magnet isn't spinning any faster than the motor. A gear-like interfacing between the smaller roller and larger wheel would have the small roller spinning considerably faster than the wheel (and the motor, which is how I noticed that they were the same). This is the source of my confusion.

Electrostatic propulsion is just that. Most testing out there shows increased efficiency in vacuum. It was once widely thought that rockets would not work in space without anything to "push" against, totally ingoring Newton's Third law of motion. The effect also cancels inertia, and G-forces, as discovered by 1938.

In the 1920s, when American pioneer Robert Goddard was experimenting, it was difficult to get funding, becuase it was widely tought that without air to "push" against, rockets would not work in space. The German's took Goddard's work, and ran with it, 10-years later. The result was the US and Russian manned and unmanned ballistic Rockets.

In 1977, the US Air Force had a ten-footer, the P-11 craft, which weighs 4.5 tons, shipped to Edwards in California for flight-trials.
