The Potter books will be forgotten relatively soon, but LotR will live on and on because of its superior writing and is a superior story.

I'm not going to argue about the 2, however she seems to be really biased and opinionated to only Lord of the Rings. If a Battle occurred, which I don't think it would, I believe they would be friends because there both wise and cunning, and the most Powerful Wizard's of existence, however if a Duel was to occur I believe it would go on for days upon days. Dumbledore and Gandalf are from DIFFERENT fictional universes, you cannot simply compare the two out of context and then use context-relative arguments to argue one way or the other. In Dumbledore's universe, Gandalf didn't help create the world, in Gandalf's universe it's not even clear that the 'magic' that's going on would be anything like what it is in Rowling's fiction.

But what as literature? LotR is seen by so many as the pinnacle of fantasy fiction. Bravery abounds, even amongst some of the villains. As does intelligence. Harry Potter often won because hermione, Ron, Dumbledore or whoever helped him. This was redressed somewhat in the last book. Harry is brave but his bacon was saved too many times by others. The Potter books will be forgotten relatively soon, but LotR will live on and on because of its superior writing and is a superior story.

Tolkien wrote wizards as heavenly creatures sent down to aid middle earth and were given human form, but even the elves knew what they truly were. Think in terms of: in LOTR wizards=angel, Sauron=fallen angel. As good as Dumbledore is, he is fully human. Also, you can't go off the movies when comparing what Gandalf can do concerning the Witch King. The Witch King was first human and transformed by the will of Sauron, equating him closer to a demon which is lesser than an angel. Read Tolkien.
