@AtWarWithGod There are few kits available now. A selection of kits with US barrels are available from ak-builder com. What you get is personal preference.
How did you begin learning this type of work? I'd really enjoy purchasing build kits and building my own rifles but I just don't have the confidence that I'd get it done right.
I always wondered why people didn't just weld their AK's together. Is rivoting stronger? I really want to try building an AK but I'm a little scared to try it.
People have welded their builds together in the past, most don't do that anymore mostly because it looks terrible. Most guys can't weld for crap. Its really not that hard to do a rivet build once you get past getting the barrel out of the trunnion.
@ginsboy2003 Ah okay. I've just never used a rivet gun in my life lol, but I've been welding for 12 years so that's what I'm used to. I might give it a shot, I've always wanted to build an AK. The receivers are the parts that are registered FFL items right? How much do No-Dak Spuds run these days?
@ginsboy2003 yeah i tried apex no luck with gunbroker but im trying a reweld build for a bulgy underfolder and i bought the cut uf m64 receiver maybe i can use cut the front of a polish milled so i can just press and pen

I have experience riveting from my work, and some special tools I've made. I have a lathe and all the special tools and adapters for my press I made. I also made the rivet set for the rivet gun from a cheap chinese air hammer punch.
Guess what I'm asking is whats a good kit to start with.

Alright thanks. I think I'd need to start on a weapon I'm more familiar with. Never had to take apart an AK.

@PRSpl4yer Nodak receiver are priced anywhere from 460 to $100 and they are fully hardened.

Its just a standard 4x aircraft rivet gun, you can get them on ebay or aircraft tool supply companies. The rivet set is custom made though.
