hmmm i don't like his stance on foreign policy. he still gives way too much power to the president. he should listen to his father. president does not have authority to act unilaterally. and no, the only problem with afghanistan was not that we didn't go in soon enough, but that we went in AT ALL. being there does not solve ANYTHING.
When Jefferson made that statement, there weren't any nuclear warheads on missles with the capacity to reach across the continents. We need a strong military force. we should be in strategic areas and we should be a gentle giant. Deterent to war is kin to deterent to being robbed or raped... if you have the ability to kick their butts, you don't get robbed or raped.
Yeah, civilian defense forces in lieu of enormous professional armies don't work at all! I mean, just look at Switzerland, they have a militia and they've been invaded so many times they're almost a third world country!
Oh wait, actually they're the happiest, most prosperous, and most secure nation in Europe, and haven't fought a war in over 200 years. So much for that theory.
@DobermansRock Many Tea Party members have been distracted. They need to learn about United Nations Agenda 21 before they vote. Constant war is not Constitutional, no matter how afraid the media has made them. Constant war is not good for Israel, which most Tea Party members believe. I'm a member of the Tea Party in my state and I'm voting Ron Paul!
Don't get me wrong, I DEFINITELY want to see Rand in the Senate but his foreign policy views seem a little wishy washy. I know you can't get elected being a purist these days but a large standing army is what's led to all this imperialism of the last 100 years. If the government has a large military force, it doesn't matter if you have a "less expansive" policy, the politicians will look for a way to use it. It's the very reason Jefferson opposed a standing army in favor of local militia.
There would be no way to get elected running on a policy of dismantling our standing army. There might be a small amount of support for that, but we're talking 5% maybe. As long as we are a "United Union of States" we'll have a standing army. Jefferson had no problem sending his standing "navy" to fight the barbary pirates!
causeandeffect: you're right that he is weak on foreign policy. At 2:44 he states that he "probably would have voted for war with Afghanistan"! Yikes.

If we dont piss them off then they wont try to kill us. You can have armed men in a nation and remain gentle giants. It doesnt work that way.

Yes, the quality isn't anything to write home about. I can't take credit for it, as I have ripped this from a CD. Thanks for watching.
