a lot of dodge problems, were crank sensors in the bell housing, and corroded wires under the fuse box.but the most common is the coil.i noted that it is raining that will cause it to act up and quit.was it damp out when it quit last time it quit ?let us know.maybe we can help out further....
I remember the last time I was in Atwood ont lol guess they werent up to code everything went into a pit that was always burning..guess they got busted since so I was told
Start with the cheapest things first fuel filter, plugs wires, air filter, points, do all you can do on your own then take it to the shop. You might have water in the gas add some additive to your tank see if it fixes the problem. Go to the library look in the chilton book see what it says is the issue.
All else fails turn it into an electric truck and never have another breakdown again.
love the drive, looks familiar, are you located in Lancaster Pa, around strasburg, railroad, travel the road alot, just wondering, but loved your video, keep up good work
Hmm, I'm thinkin O2 sensor, throttle body sensor, does it have a mass air? My neighbor's did the same, it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. When the pump got warm it would partially seize up, just enough to make it stall and die till it was cold again. Good luck n hope that helps!
excellent video, thankfully your dakota got you home my friend. there could be many things that could be causing your problem but as you say, which one is it. that's what makes it madding is not knowing which one is causing it. hopefully your renovations on your summer kitchen is going a lot smoother. nice job man.
I think if they tried to charge for throwing away your garbage at the dump over here, a lot of folks would dump their trash on the Mayors front lawn. This is real redneck country. They don't even require building permits or septic systems in most of Tennessee.
Here's something to check out on your truck. Look at where the fuel line goes into the carb. If the nipple threads into the carb, remove it. Sometimes a filter is hiding inside. tt can give enough restriction to allow the float bowls to slowly empty.
OK, we need to figure out if it's spark or fuel. It seems to die fully warmed up.
That usually means igniton module, or igniter, it's called. That's the device that replaced the old points system. Carry a 4 foot wire with you when this happens. Unplug a lead from a plug and connect your jumper wire into it. While you crank it, see if you can get an arc onto a metal part, like the door hinge, or a good ground. If you had help, one could check for fuel in the throttle body, cranking it over.
that's what my 96 did, especially when wet, turned out to be the wire to the oxygen sensor was grounding out along the frame. It runs along the inside of the passenger side frame,to one or both oxygen sensors in the exhaust.
Loved the ending on this one. I know what that feels like, many of us have been there before. At least you had a laugh about it. Keepin you and yours in my prayers. I hope someone on here can help you out with the truck problems.
You need to check for spark when it stops like that. I can hear the fuel pump come on then go off . It only comes on for three secounds normaly when you turn the key to the on or less if the fuel presure is up already. I'd get an old spark plug then the next time it stops I'd take one plug wire and put the old plug in it then let the other end touch ground. Then crank it over. If the plug is grounded right you should see a blue spark and hear a snap
My 93 cavalier had a malfunctioning tcc solenoid...I spent many HOURS in that peice of shit waiting for the tranny to kick in...drank alot of dr.pepper in the meantime (I won't be sad seeing her GO)*
Every mopar myself, family or friends have owned has had wiring problems, with occasional computer problems as well. They are a major pita to replace especially behind the dash, certainly a challenging way to spend a week's labor. Enjoying your homestead series!
not sure if it applies to dodge or not but I have an 85 fiero that used to do this and it turned out to be the ignition control module. I replaced a number of modules before I discovered that it was a bad pickup coil burning the module out. But it was the same thing that I could sit and wait and it would take me a few more miles down the road.
for 15 I'd expect them to unload it and give my truck a wash. Our town allows us to take X amount of garbage to the dump but when you go over they charge you at the end of the year. Too bad about the truck, you need to find an old tacoma.
The next time it breaks down you need to loosen the fuel line near the motor to see if the fuel pump is working right. You may want to hard wire your fuel pump from your battery to a switch, then from the switch to the pump.
Good idea to hard wire the fuel pump with a toggle switch, if only for troubleshooting purposes. If you do this run both positive and negative from the battery distribution box, don't depend on an existing body connection for the ground side. Be sure to include a fuse in the power line! That being said, when facing moisture-related drive-ability problems I usually start troubleshooting with the ignition system & under-hood electronics.
Hey HH, That trip reminded me when I was a teen in the early 90's, and I had to go to the dump with my day every month or so. We finished building the house in 92, but we had so much stuff to get rid of we had to go in the summers until 94. Your truck reminds me of how my Reliant used to quit on me because of the speed/distance sensor in the transmission . Almost seems like the same thing is happening to you. if it quits when it's warm, or hot, I'd bet that's what it is. Mike, London, On.

wow ...that dump is expensive. In saskatchewan that load would be five dollars. In the fall and spring they have two weeks that are free.
Maybe time for a burning barrel.

I can't believe they charge you at the dump. In the U.S., property taxes cover that. Whats to keep that guy from pocketing the $15 for himself?
spartaeus 2 years ago
Not everywhere in the US is the dump free, I pay $35 a pick up truck load by my house..

I'm growing a beard for the winter. I tend to shave mine off in spring. I let it grow because I don't like shaving and it helps keep my face warm.
