I have to immediately wonder about which if any of the affected people may have had previous knowledge of the potential dangers. That number should always be included with the other information as I see it.
You should know that fluorescent light is called fluorescent because naturally they actually emit UV light only. They have fluorescent coating on the inside of the bulb, and that fluorescent coating converts UV light to visible light.
If coating is cheap, more UV will go through and it WILL burn you if you're sitting 10cm from the damn thing... Even more so if you have lupus or some skin disease.
@zlac also the radio frequency emitting from that thing is the same as from cellphone chargers, incandescent light dimmers, computer power supplies... you name it, every energy conversion gives off a buzz, it can be lessened by using nice capacitors and chokes for filtering, but those are additional cost.
They're used in more expensive CFLs but you don't buy those, you buy cheap shit, just like you get cheap coating that lets a lot of UV through... and then you QQ about it.
@zlac Yes my friend we buy cheap shit cuz it's less expensive we don't value the importance of something we will eventually ditch in the trash so we buy crap to crap it... But in fact we should buy the good stuff for heath reasons... And the capitalist corps know this so they give us the crap so they can make the good stuff for them and there friends... i understand the dangers and all... but i ask u this ok the cfl is supposed to b more energy efficient when using it right that i get, but im sure they require more energy to produce in fact alot more.., and what about the toxic materials to make the pcb board and all the electronics inside, and transport of the raw chemicals to make these electronics...SO do we really save energy in the grand scheam of things? or are they just selling us crap and tryin to make it smell like roses, that im sure

I enjoyed the vids regarding CFL's, thanks oo7! I've always liked CFLs, never had a concern or problem with them yet myself. However the older tube fluourescents do bother me, with their buzzing humming sounds which stress me, upsetting my focus and well-being, seeming to flicker too. Regarding mercury, they SHOULD create a refundable deposit on such items like they do for all car batteries, and used to do for soda bottles. I'm concerned about CFL radio emissions and do not want a cell phone.

Then does the UV also gethrough the tube glass?
I sit very close to a CFL in a desk lamp on my right. Have noticed no difference between the skin on my face nexto the lamp and left face.

They have private doctors so we get shitty public healthcare.
They have private security so we get shitty police and more crime.
They have private schools so we get shitty public education and then we have a lot of idiots.
