Are you kidding .... this IS WHO SHE IS. I love her deep gnarling voice. It is exactly as it should be ...years of pain, addiction and then - resurrection. PERFECT.
its kind of nice to hear her after all these years(just a little painful lol) , The song hasnt changed just the person singing it has grown and matured and looks at things different
I saw her in concert about ten years ago...yes, the voice was gone...but she still held us spellbound...one just can't look away from her when she is onstage.
yes everyone, we all get older. she may have aged a little faster than someone who hadn't done drugs, for instance. but hey, she cleaned herself up and made a comeback. you've got to give her that. thank god she survived at all....some of the drugs she undoubtedly passed out with in her system.
I think it is wonderful. She didn't really care for this song when she was 17 and an angel. But years later, when it is the evening of the day, she lives the song. It is very easy to like the debuting Marianne in her timid and angelic way 50+ years ago. But it reflects one's character to be able to embrace her as a person and to appreciate her path of survival.
i wanna cry - love her when she's singing the blues, but not this song. she sang like an angel when this song was originally recorded in 1965. she's a tough old bird. thank God she survived, but it's hard to see the contrast. Judy Garland was very selective about singing "Over the Rainbow" in her later years. On Judy's TV program, she only sang it once on Christmas. If Judy had lived she would still be singing certain songs, but "Over the Rainbow" would be rare.
first she never had a voice
second
she is better than ever
as tears go by
should not be sung by anybody under the age of 65
this is a voice of life
of surviving
this old man loves Marianne more than ever

@dale1966gto "yes everyone, we all get older."
True. But thankfully, not everyone continues to sing when they no longer can.

Have pity for the poor thing. This is what drugs do to you. Kids should be forced to watch her doing the same song in 1965 vs. this video.
