  • A forgotten pop classic.

  • For immediate release: Comments by Spiggy Topes, K Laatu and 'Performance' star Turner in an unofficial rockumentary aired recently on Fox 'News' (sic), that The Records played shows with The Shoes, Elvis, Stones, Dylan, or Pat Boone. were de-bunked today by their official un-named source John Wilkinson at a reception for the release of a new CD, 'Gethsemane'

which includes Alfred Hitchcock's DVD of their 1979 mythical sell-out at the 02 Arena & legendary jam with The Rolling Who & Adge Cutler.

  • It s gems like this that make me glad I clung like grim death to all my vinyl records from back in the day. Priceless, wonderful pop music that never gets stale.

  • @GrtSatan When I was in the army back in the 80's(yes, I show my age)I found their third release, Music On Both Sides, which I think was never released in the States. I clung like grim death too, because I still have it.

  • I forgot to add that I was stationed overseas in Germany, so what I brought home turned into an import record.

  • Gee. Ya think Guided By Voices heard this back in the day? I think so.

  • just discovered this band...like finding buried treasure...this is a sparkling gem!

  • the meeting point of The Byrds and The db's...

  • Always a favorite of mine from years gone back! Your right bub Much, Much Better than Any pop music of today, not just saying it cause I'm older,Listen! It's True!

  • and yet it manages to be way better than both "Do Anything You Wanna Do" and either of those Byrds records. perfect pop song.

  • @tomdissonance its crap ,like your opinion

  • @2bsom1 ooh wow, what a zinger bro. i like the idea that it took you 6 days to think of that. also, you're wrong, punch yourself in the ears and the taste until you realise the error of your ways

  • @tomdissonance i love you

  • @2bsom1 i wish i did :'-( #sadclown

  • The song is a shameless lift from 'Do Anything You Wanna Do'. The lead guitar melody is definitely inspired by 'Eight Miles High'.

  • @ElGrandWazir if ur gonna steal, steal from the best.

  • I got to meet John Wicks when he relocated to the States in 1994, now he is in L.A.

Saw a show with 15 people where The Records opened for The Shoes that year.

    Perfection.

  • @Knepperify1 Wow, seeing The Records open for the Shoes is almost the perfect concert.

  • This is the single mix and does not appear on the original UK Lp with the bonus disc.

A much, MUCH better version and mix.

  • Saw them back in 1970whatever at Great Adventure in Jackson NJ. They opened up for Joe Jackson. Great show!

  • The main riff is taken from the Byrds "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better". Still, this is a classic, all-time great late-70s power-pop recording. "Teenerama" is also excellent.

  • Perfect pop tune...Who dislikes this?

  • back in the 80's WRIF Detroit the rock cafe 2 AM to 6 AM

  • In the late 70s a local radio station I listened to here in Halifax,Nova Scotia,Canada had a program on Saturdays called ''New Discoveries'',at first featuring mainly punk, new wave and power pop. This is where I first heard The Jam,The Clash,Buzzcocks,Bram Tchiakovsky,BB Gabor,Martha and The Muffins,The Records,etc.. I used to tape the show on an old cassette player. Wonderful song . Takes me back to high school. Thanks.

  • I'm eating barbecue potato chips. *munch munch munch*

  • One of the best of the POWER POP generation. The RECORDS later changed their name to _____________. Anyone? Theres a million dollars in the cash cabinet!

  • @podcastshmodcast There is not. And who cares anyway. All their best stuff ended up on the first, brilliant LP, including "Teenarama."

  • @podcastshmodcast ..John Wicks and The Records?...had to take a guess

  • Great song, but you all should also listen to The Records' wonderful follow-up single, also from 1979, "Teenarama"!

  • simple great melodic music from the heart...fuck most of todays overmanufactured pseudo shitty music and talentless cocks...I want MORE of this TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mrbatdance mssg if u wanna hear new music that sounds 70s80s90s

  • Is this the original sound of the song? I discoverd this song by Jude Cole. He replaced Huw Gover on drums in 1980. A talented guy who later did some great albums. I have uploaded some songs from him. Unfortunately, you maybe can´t hear it depending on the WMG. :/

  • lOVE tHIS sO mUCH, tHANK yOU

    tREV

  • The best. For us old horny goats.

  • Popalicious.

  • One of the greatest pop songs not to make the top 40

  • I had this Record. They were GOOD, but BRAM was WAY better.

  • The 70's, The Era of True Music.

  • Amazing, didnt think I'd find this on here. Just last night I was looking thru some old tapes I'd made yrs ago and this was on one of them. Thanks for sharing t9i9

  • One of the best bass parts played in an enture song. Awesome.

  • Jeez, I still have the import 45 of this. It must be worth a buck-3.80 by now. Will Birch forever!

  • Long live power pop!

  • So much better than pop crap today... sigh : (

  • @bublycat HELL YEAH!

  • @bublycat because it has some rock sound to it with live instruments and today we have digital crap sound from fucking computers and synthesizers.

  • @0live0wire0 well the 80s were full of synths lol you cant say real music is dead have you heard of bands like miami horror, reckless love, dean lickyer, chromeo, crashdiet, airbourne, empire of a sun, etc

  • @bublycat well, then stop listening to crap! it's not like there's a shortage of new jingle jangle power pop - don't succumb to "old fartism"

  • @bublycat well, then stop listening to crap! it's not like there's a shortage of new jingle jangle power pop - don't succumb to "old fartism"

  • @juepucta When did I say that I listen to it?

  • This song brings back memories of 1979. Great stuff.

  • wow this takes me waaayyyy back! THANKS!!

  • fukkin kills!

  • it doesnt get any better =these guys are POP culture at it;s finest! eddie mchale

  • This sounds quite similar to a certain Eddie and the Hotrods song.

  • @chasebizzy At least they picked something good from which to "borrow" and they made something great out of it.

  • beautiful and fresh. ageless teen fun

  • Excellent song. Recordsmania

  • omg i love this song

  • Heard this for the first time ever today on 88.9 Radio Millwaukee, loved it!

  • Please do not tell me you saw the Records and the Jam. Two of my favorite bands, for sure. I am jealous...

  • Sure did, but by the time of the Saddleworth marquee gig we'd already seen The Jam so many times that we mainly went to see the support bands. Shades in Bed is still a top album

  • @ecosmart123 If that makes you jealous, you're gonna hate me (LOL)...I tour with Huw. :)

  • One of the best songs ever by one of the best bands ever! Their albums need a LOT of attention, whether they're still going or not. The first time I heard "Teenarama" (in 1980) I was knocked out of my sox.

  • one of the top ten powerpop (or just POP) songs of all times!!! (or at least one of my top ten fav songs)

  • Yeah, Teenarama is a great song. I used to have the 'Shades in Bed' album, is this from it?

  • Wow, I'm 45 and I don't think I've heard this in about 30 years....what a great song...thanks for uploading...I feel like a kid again :)

  • maybe you should go to a record shop and listen s'more

  • saw him and paul collins last night(john), it was good but i was there for todd ellis of smart remarks

  • 2:15

  • @t9i9 jeez.....I had forgotten what an influence The Records were......brilliant. How they never made it really big is a mystery to me. Beautiful songs, well crafted and just make me feel happy when i hear them

  • CLASSIC pop song! Hadn't heard it in almost 30 years, forgot all about it, now I can't get it out of my friggin' head!!! Thanks for posting... I think...

  • timeless classic.

  • great song! my old band {the counselors} were going to open for these guys in charlottesville, va. back in 98 at a club called tokyo rose. for some reason they decided to play first ,effectively opening for us. needless to say , they were great and we were awful. this song used to get played alot on FM radio in goose creek, south carolina when it came out . i was 12 then with a transistor attached to my ear. they say dont live in the past but thats where all the best music is. thanx t919

  • Check out 'Rock and Roll Love Letter' if you don't already know it. (I can't find on this site)' Teenerama' another classic. These guys were obscure in the UK tho' I think 'Starry Eyes' was a hit in the US

  • shlabotnikj has drawn to my attention the fact that 'RARLL' was a cover of a Bay City Rollers song. I never knew it wasn't an original.

  • Tokyo Rose, miss it.

  • I only paused to say love thees song! Paused from what you ask? Dancing around my house! *goes back to awkward white guy dance*

  • great, great song!!!!!

Even my 15 year old likes it!

( there is hope for him !)

  • one of the top 100 all time pop songs...enough said!!

  • What I love about this song is that it sounds amazing so many ways. Like Big Star's Thirteen, Starry Eyes sounds great whether background vocals and guitar riffs be added or removed, whether it be played acoustic or electric, whether it be played fast or slow.

It's a nearly-perfect and highly mutable pop song. That's what makes it one of my favorite songs ever.

  • One of the best songs and one of the best bands ever.

  • EXCELLENT! Reminds me of being in high school!

  • hey this is good song

  • I happen to like the Byrds, Tom Petty, etc. If you don't like the song, you don't have to say anything. Oh, and my high school has nothing to do with this song - I just happened to be about 15 when the song was released, and this song was on the radio when I worked on a farm in the summertime. Perhaps you should consider your words carefully before you try to insult someone you know nothing about.. Is your life so pathetic that you have nothing better to do than find strangers on line to insult?

  • Me too! Young, horny and dancing like a clumsy fool!
