  • My favorite tech. Not because of its function in the game. Just because of how spiritually they treated it.

  • SMAC is one of the deepest games ever created - both in terms of gameplay and message beyond it.

  • 4 people want to stay in the cradle forever.

  • Ze zeory of everyzing!

  • semantically the western sciences were unified. it was called philosophy, which was really too abstract to be of much practical use.

  • and then these guys come flying out of Earth and established colonies in alpha centauri...

  • Personally, I would prefer if we developed multiple Theories of Everything. What assurance do we have that we'll only develop one?

  • well, if we developed a Theories of Everything and found out that it was wrong, it would become the Theories of Something

  • The Theory of Everything is 42.

  • @carmen510 holy shit, you got 42 thumbs ups, people dont thumb up his comment so it can stay at 42.

  • How did you convert these files into a format readable by WMP?

  • I ripped them with HCl's Wing Commander Movie Player. Link is in the video description.

  • You rock to an unimaginable degree.

  • Thanks!

  • theory of everything is the theory to solve all physical phenomena. theory of everything was disproven in the 1930s by Gödel's incompleteness theorems, one could also argue, though, that Johann Heinrich Lambert disproved theory of everything in the 1760s with the publishing of W constant, though it wasn't an actual statement as incompleteness theorems are.

  • it's also any unifying theory that explains... well anything.

  • "The Earth is the cradle of the mind, but one cannot stay in the cradle forever."

... so must we transcend earth? or mind?

  • maybe both

  • Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

  • The quote means that one day we need to open our eyes, and look up. Like what Lovecraft said. The sciences have been struggling in separate directions. But one day, they'll be unified. How we react, as a species, subsequently, will be the interesting part.

  • Interesting to whom ?

  • @harlequin2262

Totally agree with you. With the emergence of quantum physics, the many worlds theory and quantum mechanics, the occult, magick and esoteric, once regarded as superstition is slowly and surely undergoing vindication. But as Lovecraft also said, we may discover something that was best left unknown...

  • @Kemonokami

There's been little to no vindication of any of those occult ideas.

Many worlds is a hypothesis. It's been unproven, and difficult to test. It's a very popular little idea in pop culture, but it's more of a physics thought experiment than anything else. It's essentially unproveable.

  • @harlequin2262

I see what you mean, but I respectfully disagree.

  • as so many others have pointed out in the comments, then the Theory of everything is supposed to link the Strong, The weak, The electromagnetic and the gravitic laws of physics together.

Funny thing is... the weak and the electromagnetic is already linked, that was achieved over 20 years by physicists.

  • And Electromagnetic used to be divided into Electric, and Magnetic.

  • This quote, while great, has nothing to do with the The Theory of Everything. Nothing.

  • Well if the Theory of Everything is supposed to link the four primary atomic theories together, of which one is gravity, then it has everything to do with it, since leaving Earth requires enough force to defy gravity.

  • @matsku84 I thought it was Gravity, SNF, WNF, Magnetism, right?

  • @twostringguitar Yeah except the 4th one is not just magnetism but electromagnetism.

  • @twostringguitar And, if I recall, the WNF and Electromagnetic have been combined into the Electroweak Force.

  • It doesnt? "the earth is the cradle of the mind" seems like a good summary to me :)

  • actually it has more to do with Theory of Everything than you may think. For now, theory of everything is considered 'bullsh*t' and impossible theory. Theory that cannot exist. This quote is symbol, as leaving earth, was something impossible to do for our ancestors.[who played AC will probably know origin of it] This quote is symbol of single spark of genious, transcendenting current boundaries of science, that defines existance of TOE as 'impossible'.

  • the theory of everything is what is supposed to link the four primary atomic theories together - the strong, the weak, the electromagnetic and the... ah hell, cant remember... but the thing is, the theory would allow you to make direct assosiations from matter to radiation... which would have some pretty nifty uses

  • the last one is gravity

  • This was always one of my least favorite videos. The project itself was useless unless the base you established it was already a research powerhouse, because unless there was a lot of research bonuses there already, twice of a normal base's research is nothing special.

I always thought the video was supposed to be abstract, implying that abstract thought was how one could arrive at a unified theory, or at least moving toward one, doubling research output.

  • Um, Thats why you don't build it at a regular base noob...

  • I'm normally the University. I found that it was helpful when I built it at my Primary Base. Early game, definitely useless. But endgame, when you've got huge population, and many facilities, the effect is noticeable.

  • the meaning of life is a crappy video, eh?

  • haha, thats what i thought too. no details. just some public domain common video

  • What do you mean no details? Everything you need to know is in the video description.
