  • I love this video because it shows a great piece of machine engineering in action. I heard some of these washers had a timer for dispensing softener, bleach and dyeing or tinting sequences. I don't know if that is true or not.

  • This is one very "terrible" video. =p

  • Our 1989 model sounded exactly like this. It performed flawlessly for the 15 years we had it. Toward the end, we started seeing the occasional little black spots on are clothes from time to time. It was better than our 1975 Whirlpool machine before it which failed 3 times in it's 14 years. Wanting larger capacity & fearing the transmission seal may be going bad, we replaced it with a Neptune in 2005 that has already outperformed it's matching dryer, which needed new ignition coils last year.

  • theres kind of a relaxing noise to this washer.. unlike my cheap enerGuide

  • This is so freaking relaxing! I just wish the video was longer.

  • I remember this model doing an excellent job on work clothes and heavy overalls and then do royal on delicates just as well. It could get pretty hot...always wondered what temp it when up to...do you know? Maytag should give you royalties on these vids incidentally..LOL!

  • @mxylpx This Maytag does not regulate the hot temp setting. So whatever your hot water tank is set to, is what the machine gets.

  • do you mind helping me out, i bought one second hand and im not quite sure how to set the cycle and how it works, i lived in apartment buildings all my life and there were always instruction. i really would appreciate your help

    thanks

  • @ginaabdelmalak Well Just use the regular cycle. Set the main dial to your desired wash time, 8 to ten minutes is good for most loads. Them set your temps, I recommend hot wash for white and towels, warm for mixed colours, and cold for darks, with cold rinses for all, Then you set your water level from small to extra large depending on your load size, and there you go. Also leave the wash and spin speeds set to normal unless you have delicates. Hope this helps.

  • I never get tired of watching this vid :)

  • Did you crop off the pauses between the agitations and spins?

  • @tvtimetravel Yes I did.

  • Still one of the best brands to be made...How long is the wash cycle?

  • The wash cycle takes about 35 to 40 minutes.

  • Is this how Al Qaeda sends messages?

  • What object did you use to prop in the lid switch?

  • I used a wooden spatula handle. Basically any slim peace of wood or plastic will work.

  • i just love that sound! aaaah

  • I used to sell these back in the 70s...piece of cake. Wish I still had a pair!

  • I recently got a Maytag A207 in a home that I purchased. It is pristine and works flawflessly. Any idea as to what year the A207 was made? No papers were left in the home and I was just curious. Also, does anyone know how I could get some replacement water level buttons as one is missing.. Thanks for any help.

  • Maytag washers and dryers made from 1972 to 1979 were the best machines ever made in america! If you see one on the side of the road you would be wise to pick it up and bring it home. They are very easy to work on, they seldom break down and they last forever!!!! I have 4 washers and 4 dryers from that era! A Lifetime supply!!!!! LOL

  • @ulltra Hence those Ol' Lonely repairman commercials.

  • @ulltra Actually, our 1989 set sounded identical to to this one, as well as my grandparents's 1970 model. Agitator and shapes of the cabinet and drum are the same between all 3. Only differences are color schemes and panel design. My grandparent's had the black agitator with the blue filter & cup with a white knob on the control panel. Ours had a brown control panel trimmed in chrome.

  • @ulltra I agree....wish we would get back to making products we could be proud of for their efficiency and durability. This site is a great demonstration for any students of socio-economics and mechanical design.

  • WASHER FETISH!!!!!

  • Wow...haha my grandma had the harvest gold pair from the 1970's. they lasted about until 2005-06

  • I love the suspense at 3:02!

I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next!

  • A 1 MINUTE SPRAY RINSE!!! N-I-C-E! This is my dream machine. I want a 1975 model in turquoise.

  • Dude!!! I luv this vid & it rocks so much I had my Mom's A806 shipped from NH to FL to see it LIVE for real! Now the whole family can watch live & your instant replay!!!

  • To quote the flesh from Action League Now on Kablam! on Nickelodeon, back in 1996, "Whoa! That spin cycle rocks!"

  • So much more entertaining than the front loaders of today! LOL! Very enjoyable!

  • So are top loaders nicer to clothes than front loaders? Meaning less wear and tear on them....?

  • No, actually, the front-loaders are easier on fabrics. At least the newer front loaders are. The front loading machines rotate the drum without and agitator. It's the agitator that sometimes damaged clothes. That's my impression anyway.

  • I love the classic maytags especially the sound of the wash cycle.

  • This is way better than "Alien VS Predator" !

  • Awesome video of an amazing washer! Thank YOu! Can I buy it?

  • Wow...I got dizzy just watching that. @.@

  • we had a maytag and it only lasted 8or 9 years timer went out.The whhirlpool we bought new in 1990 is still working like new.Its whirlpool for us if it ever quits. Also the maytag we had i remember when we washed sheets in it it tied them up cause of the agitator being made funny.Even my wringer don't tie up sheets.

  • I used to have one exactly like this....Should have kept it. Just had to get a new one, the damned thing died just shy of four years old!

  • my moms washer makes that clicking sound when it starts too

  • We used to have somthing similar to this, with green agatator and everything, but the controlls were different. It was a good washer, but when we got the maytag neptune, the water bill went down dramaticly and i thin the front loader gets the clothes cleaner. Plus the clothes dry faster.

  • 618 rpm ^^ good in germany is 650rpm from the whirlpool washer 1000 rpm

  • these models most of them were all trouble free belts are very simple to change

  • What a beautiful washer you have. I remember these. They were very well made! Remember when machines had chrome on them? I have a new Maytag Front Loader and matching dryer that i have mix feelings about. I can fit a lot of clothes into it. But it doesn't get the whites very white like my old Maytag top loader.

  • Amazin that old and workin n off balance also.....and runs also

  • how many rpm has the maytag???

  • I think it spins at 618rpm.

  • @liamwa Does it have a low spin speed for delicates and permanent press? How many rpm's is it?

  • @tvtimetravel Yes it has a slow speed for both wash and spin. I'm not sure what the rpm of the slow speed is, regular spins at 618rpm.

  • i used to work on appliances and those maytag washers were my favorite ones to work on and they were reliable machines

  • Excellent video of a classic machine - no unnecessary commentary that gets in the way of the sounds of the machine. Thanks!

  • sounds loike a front loader distributing for spin

  • I love it! Not only is the machine the ideal washer, I love the editing and ending!

  • Can't beat the old belt-drive Kenmores and classic Maytags.
