  • Thing to remember is that the US President is not merely the head of government as the Canadian PM is, he is also the head of state--as the Queen is in Canada. You wouldn't be that chummy with the Queen.

  • Stewart would do it. Bush wouldnt. Obama? Don't know.

  • I'm half-Canadian (my old man's from Antigonish, Nova Scotia) but my entire mind is absolutely blown away by this. No way could this will ever happen on American television. No freaking way!

  • Harper must not know that Mercer is gay. Otherwise he wouldn't have let him near his kids knowing him lol

  • It's not the white house, it's Sussex drive. lol

  • Can you pick out the lies now watching this two years later people?

  • Harper needs to GET CRUNK

  • "You know when I can't sleep, I count ridings"

  • lol canada is pretty chill. love it here..

doesn`t change the fact that harper didn`t answer a single question.

he is a dick, don`t be fooled.

  • @ofthefyredex He NEVER answers the questions he's asked!

  • "Do canadians have more fun?"

    YESS!!!

    they are both sooooo ADD!

  • "Do Canadians have more fun?"

    YES!!!! HAHA!!!

  • Harper is awesome! Mercer is awesome haha :D

  • I got money says harper doesn't know Mercer's gay.

  • ten people who don't like this aren't funny.

  • Hilarious. Me so likey.

  • I have to say, that the parliamentary system of government grants the PM far less power than a constitutional republic grants a president, the closest thing we have to a PM here in the States would be a combination of Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader, not as much power there.

  • @thenutintheushanka18 I'm Canadian man, it would be nice if you actually researched the political system before making assumptions. A majority government PM in Canada has as much authority as the president in the US.

  • stephen harper is related to ricky fromt railer park boys

  • "You're tied with the liberals, and the liberals have no leader!!" lol!

  • @landongendur hes not tied with the liberals and I know what you meen mickel ignatief (I think that might be spelled right) is the biggest pussy in the history of canadian polotics.

  • By "Two-Four", Mercer means 24 Sussex Drive (i.e. where Harper lives) - NOT a case of beer.

  • @TuathaDuOrothrim I think he was actually playing on words with that and meant both. =)

  • Here's my brother,aaahhscreemme!!!!!!!!!

    Great show.

  • If the US were having good times,we might see our presidents act more human and have some fun.

But we are so screwed now,the media would tear Obamma apart for having fun.

Same goes for when Bush was President.

Clinton may have been able to get away with a overnite party tho.

  • God I love being Canadian :D

  • "You're not the boss of me!" Ha ha ha!! So many other world leaders should watch this and learn!!

  • Obviously meant for American viewers. But that's OK.Speaking to Canadian voters,I think that Harper is one of the most human of our leaders. He is a man, like any other. He has children that he must send to bed,and must send to school. He was able to play the cards in reverse as it pertains to his rep in the media.I really think that he is a stand out guy,I did not need this vid to tell me that, but it was funny as hell to watch!Go P.M!

  • only in Canada eh?

  • You're not staying in a hotel! LOL

    Harper is awesome

  • your a douche

  • uhm???? canda isn't part of the third world...

  • @geraldrempe I would like to let you know that CANADA in NO WAY is a third world country.

  • @geraldrempe fuck you bitch i'll kick your ass to the third world

  • @geraldrempe

Angry cause you didn't get your fifth cheeseburger of the day, huh?

I think it's time to start reading a basic geography text book instead of the McDonald's menu, honey.

  • @geraldrempe I hope that was sarcasm. Other wise you should take a Geography class. Economically Canada is in better shape then your country, we have way less debt for one thing!

  • @geraldrempe are you like um stupid?

of course we have computer sorry sir you have been misinformed

    better luck next time!!!

    *douche**

  • Stuff like this makes me glad to be back home in my beloved Canada. Americans are so up-tight and fearful of everything and everyone.

  • Hee-hee! That's so cool that Stephen Harper is game for a little fun. I like him a little now, too. :)

Rick, you rock! Thanks for always making me laugh!

  • Hahaha, I love Canadian television! I might not agree with Harper on everything, but I think that it's good of him to actually do something like this. Not many political leaders would.

  • This is so funny. I love how our PMs are willing to do this kind of thing.

  • I suddenly like Harper a lot more. xD

  • i love the fact that rick mercer just totaly hung out with this harper like he was a beer budy

  • Did you know that we don't have a white house?

It's call a fricken Parliament Building.

And our leader (Prime Minister BTW) doesn't live in it.

If I sound blunt it's because I am.

    Bad day you know.

  • *sighsighsighsigh* there is no need for the sarcasm because you are the one at fault. That tittle was meant to make a point. Look at the video description where it says "would george bush do this for Mr. Stewart." As in 'have a sleepover and the white house." Hence the question mark at the end of "How about a sleepover at the whitehouse?"

  • Ok I didn't quite get the joke.

I read the description but I don't live in U.S.A. and didn't understand.

Thank you for taking my comment so calmly.

  • The thing I like about Canadian shows and Canadian politicians is that these shows often can access politicians in a nonserious, noncelebrity way. LIving in the U.S., I don't see many shows that do that in the U.S. Usually the politician comes on as a celebrity or is a serious official position. There's something very down-to-earth about Canadian shows and their relationship to politicians. I like it! :)

  • My sentiments exactly. I just adored this programme when I lived above the 49th paralell.

  • I agree. Canadian politics in general is a little bit more down-to-earth and doesn't take itself way too seriously like American politics can.

  • I'm not a fan of Stephen Harper, but my respect for him was raised just a bit after watching this.

    Rick Mercer is my hero.

  • Lmfao, I couldn't agree with you more.

I like how he's willing to get on a comedy show and just be silly while explaining some important things. It's a nice personality trait to carry as a leader :P

  • @nathpollen

we need good leaders and not a comedy scetck for the middle class

  • @kaker69 True, but I'm sure you giggled a bit watching this. I said Rick Mercer was my hero, not Stephen Harper.

  • @nathpollen

of course it's hilarious but that doesn't excuse there work ethics

  • @nathpollen same here Stephen Harper sucks rick mercer rules.

  • @nathpollen Still? He's such a two faced jackass!

  • I love Rick Mercer.

I think he reflects the best of Canadians. He is intelligent, witty, and above all funny with impeccable timing; not to mention improvisational skills. I love his well thought out rants which are always eloquent, yet blunt. He knows how to get his point across without pandering.

    He is Canada's Jon Stewart.

  • correction: Jon Stewart is America's Rick Mercer.

  • i stand corrected

  • that's so mean "how does that make you feel in your heart spot" Rick Mercer 5:25

  • LOL

  • hilarious!!

  • Comment removed

  • He's a Newfie living in Ontario

  • Watch your mouth, filthy racist scum!

  • hes from newfoundland

  • He's from St. John's, Newfoundland.

  • Comment removed

  • I'd probably say southern ontario and newfoundlanders, although newfies talk real fast sometimes.

  • Maritimes.

  • yeah those are some lousy subtitles,

however, thats what i love about Canadian media, we are allowed to make fun of our prime minister in a funny, yet non-offensive way. This show, and other Canadian comedy shows have had the last 4 prime ministers as guest. the prime ministers have even showed up on sitcoms. i would LOVE to see an American president enjoy the same luxuries.

  • your subtitles fail

  • "You're not the boss of me!!!!" LMAO hahaha

    I love Rick Mercer!

  • lol... playing hockey in the prime minister's house... and reading government stuff for bedtime stories...

  • ...I didn't think I was comparing myself to america... I was just commenting on the video...

  • No inferiority complex here, just awestruck at how similar we really are, but how different we collectively perceive things. We are all citizens of the world & enjoy seeing politicians brought down to earth in a realistic way. Obviously we are influenced by the US, it is inevitable, but I have never wanted to be an American. For too many Canadians, to be "Canadian" is simply to not be "American".

  • thats exactly my point. the fact that too many canadians define themselves or establish thier characteristics as being NOT AMERICAN, is pretty sad. i think with the dominance of american media/film/music/products in canada, canadians find it difficult to find a true canadian identity

  • Wow, that's funny coming from you, who constantly compares your country to Canada in hundreds of posts! ha!ha!ha!ha!

  • haha I like the american subtitles :P

  • Have a good day rick

    lmao

  • ... LOL, Harper is shaking hands with his kids XD

  • and then he hugs Rick xD

  • lol Canada rocks

  • this was one of ricks finest

    only in canada eh

  • 4dada what do u mean "Sorry for Canadian version" It is a great version, you dont need to be rasicst to Canadians lke myself

  • "you're not staying ina hotel are you?"

    lol

  • Rule 13 of Comedy:

    Don't explain the pun.

  • The person who posted/edited the video is freaking me out with the fall-flat "jokes" captions!

  • lol this was so funny

  • does the guy who put this video up not realise this was scripted

  • it wanst totally scripted. rick just went crazy with ideas alreayd in mind, adn stephen harper just went along

  • The cat's name is Shadow, in Harper's case it follows him where ever there's company or food!! Hi Stephen, Wendy here from Calgary . . .I voted for you and worked for Ron Steven's campaign 2007/08

  • Those are prop foods. Bought and paid for by CBC. They get paid from general revenues. Bottom line is, the taxpayer paid for the food.

Harper's daughter's performance is reminiscent of Sarah Polley in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - Brian Linehan (R.I.P.)

  • harper is a tedy bear well not rellly

  • I must say, that has definitely shown Harper in a new light!

  • Stephen Harper has a black cat. Right bottom corner at (starting) around 2:56 to 2:57. Bushy tail!

  • Cats = awesome

  • subtitle moron!

  • If you hate the poor quality and subtitles, you can watch this on Rick Mercer's site.

    Those drapes are hideous.

  • HEY!!!

    NOBODY messes with the drapes

  • the subtitles were lame as fuck.

  • the captions were dumb

  • the best line... "how does that make you feel in... your little heart spot"

  • lawl... This video is hilarious. I love how it goes from formal interview to Mercer being just one of the kids.

Yeah, Bush would never ever do this. Too bad.

  • ur not the boss of me!

i also love how harper never answers his questions lmao

  • Only in Canada would somebody with that much authority take time to make Rick Mercer a sandwich.

  • We Canadians are so hospitable.

  • The stupid subtitles ruin this.

  • hahahaha "ur not the boss of me!" lol

  • LOL i can't believe that happened

  • I like the subtitles it added to it

  • I think the captions added are just plain senseless.

    Totally dumbed down the video.

  • Lawls! "You're not the boss of me!" -Runs-

x] and the bedtime story, lawlls.

"You know, when I can't sleep I count ridings."

  • What a boring bed time story...

    The Conservative Platform lol :p

  • I didn't think this was airing until the end of September 2008?

  • I love the none stop hand gestures.

  • Your not the boss of me!

  • I just found Rick Mercer and I have to say I like him. This clip was kinda funny, but mostly disturbing.

  • It can be a good thing, but its mostly a bad thing

  • To: Keaysman.

"Better than having someone who cant speak english right in charge".

What do you mean exacly? French is after all, more accurate and complex. Without any offense against the English culture.

  • i just have a huge bias against the quebec culture.

  • Poor kid...

Its funny thought, how can someone dislike a culture without being able to understand it. Unless you understand french; you have no reason to critisize it because you don't even know what the fuck were saying. Oh and by the way, Theres french people all over canada, not just in Quebec, so don't bitch about the language.

  • French, although possibly more accurate and arguably more beautiful to the ear, is not more complex. English has Latin and Slavic roots, and is therefore more complex by definition.

  • bah .. who cares which is better ?

theyre both languages .. and both able to communicate thoughts ..

  • im pretty sure rick mercer isnt the "Canadian" version of Jon Stewart

  • Jon Stewart is the American version of Rick Mercer.. Rick's been around for years and years doing this kind of thing.. Watch the show 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes'

  • Rick Mercer is so fucking funny! I love Canada.

  • At least the Prime Minister of Canada is wiser than Bush

  • I am amazed at the number of people who were annoyed at my subtitles. Sorry, I would not have posted it WITHOUT the subtitles since the original is already available elsewhere, i.e. what would be the point? So if you have an issue with my subtitles, please leave this site and go to the original RMR posting.

  • I love your subtitles... open intelligent individuals should not be insulted by opinions that differ from their own... they should just accept that is the way it is.

  • Don't worry about it. Look at all the views you got and at that rating!

  • I don't know if we necessarily have more fun, but we definitely have a better sense of humour--all except Albertans, anyway!

  • are you american? or Canadian....because I would be so happy that Americans watch this show!

And yes, we Canadians have plenty more fun!

  • I'm an American, and I watch CBC more than local channels.

  • That's awesome! CBC rocks!!! (though I'm Canadian...)

  • Your not the boss of me! LOL

  • hahaha that was hilarious! rick has such a wicked sense of humour, thanx for the vid!

  • i loved this ep of the interview...although i dont recall seeing the subs before....

  • Love it! ROFL I'm still wiping tears from my eyes! Harper and Mercer could replace Wayne and Shuster! I love the handshake at the end, good spoof of the original news footage from a couple years back. Glad to see the PM has a sense of humour! :-D

  • i like this one just sub-titles sorta ruin it

  • If I didn't put the subtitles in it, I would have let you find the original. Would you have found it?

  • Awsome!

  • 4Dada, thanks for posting. I would never have seen tis gem otherwise. Never let anti-subtitle crowd let get you down 8)

  • I kinda think the opening slide about how this would never happen in America is only true to a certain extent. Jon Stewart would definitely stay over at the White House if only Dubya would let him. I mean, he recently had Lynne Cheney on the show. It was mad funny. They had to change "You don't know Dick" to "You Don't Know Richard Cheney" for that one episode.

  • YOUR NOT THE BOSS OF ME! LOL!

  • Yeah, that's the best one.

  • Nice Dada! What a hoot, I love Rick Mercer and I'm impressed Steven Harper has such a great sense of humour. Rick was really laughing when Steven asked if he were staying in a hotel.

  • LOL funny vid, but Harpers still a prick... the only good thing about the gov't is they live at the 2-4

  • Reason for you don't like Harper? Study for the talk. He's a good PM.

  • I freakin love the bedtime story!

  • ROFL....gawd that's awesome.

  • that was funny as hell. Kinda cool to see a world leader with small children.

  • That is the side of Harper I never knew

  • eehee Yay Harper! lol so funny XD. I kinda agree with the other peoples the subtitles were a little excessive, but at least they were tasteful ;)

  • Hey! Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it. If you go to the RMR website you can view it without the subtitles. I wanted to present my own take on what the video presents which is why my subtitles are there.

  • That was awsome!

  • LMAO so effing hilarious!

Family friends of ours are good friends of Stephen Harper and his family...hmm lol

  • wow i have a newfound respect for canadian comedy... lol

  • dude, all comedy is canadian

  • yeah... cut out the subtitles... they weren't funny

  • If you do not like my subtitles, please feel free to view the original. Otherwise, I would not have posted this.

  • There are some things people outside of Canada do not understand. Thought the reason for subtitles would be obvious. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • thanks for posting this! i love harper :)

  • Wow, beautiful publicity for harper...

Vote him in for another term just to see if he can top this.

  • "Hey, you kids keep it down, there."

"YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!"

    Priceless.

  • True. In actual terms, Rick is as much Harper's boss since he is a taxpayer, er, ... I mean citizen.

  • It reminded me of Malcom in the Middle and the theme song where its "your not the boss of me now"...but your completely right when you say Rick Mercer saying it being priceless...it was absolutely hilarious :D

  • Uh.. nobody in Canada talks like that except those in the maritimes.

    *shudder

  • If you are talking about Rick, you need to go a little further north and east. Newfoundland and Labr
