  • BORING!

  • Absolutely fabulous

  • she sounds like a transexual. lol

  • What an exquisite version of the song

  • heard this (Abba)-song when I was a child on and on ... reminds of better times...passing through my past...

  • @Prong112 yes

  • very lovely.

  • Nice cover !

  • Sounds nice but no way better than Frida's sweet voice.

  • Bjorn wrote the lyrics to this song so is his too.

  • Wow, what an absolutely amazing version of that very touching song!

  • Very relaxing and pleasant. She delivers the song with such a intimate performance. It just send you shivers down my spine. Thanks for posting

  • It´s Benny Andersson Orchestra (BAO) with Benny on piano. It´s a little bit curious that the opera singer Anne Sofie can sing smoother and with more feeling than Frida in her recording.

  • @TorHen17 I don't agree. I don't think she sings smoother and with more feeling than Frida. This is Frida's song. No one sings it like her, though this is an eminently acceptable cover of the song.

  • que bella versión!!!! y junto a Benny, que emoción!!! gracias por darnos esta hermosa música

  • How sweet is her voice...

Anne Sofie is an angel singing!!!

  • Andersson and Ulvaeus like Porter, Berling, Carmaichel, Jobim, Brel, Weill, Gerswhin....finally!!!

  • No offense, but listen to this beautiful song with Sissel Kyrkjebo. It´s like hearing an angel sing. Stunning performance with a voice that almost is to good to be human. Or even better, buy the DVD with Sissel and the majestic Mormon Tabernacle Choir, that recording is absolute fantastic with this song, not available here at youtube. Listen to Sissel and tell me her version isn´t best, then go look in the mirror and see a lier! Doesn´t matter that taste differs.

  • Wonderful.

  • I find this ABBA song beautiful, however, I do not like Frida's version because her voice was too "techno" sounding. (Sorry!) So it's great to hear Anne-Sofie von Otter's version. The only portion I liked Frida's better is where the word "prolonged" was, well, prolonged.

  • Hi everyone, just want to say to everyone here whoever you are: I wish you a very happy New Year - all the best wishes and happiness for 2010..... RoniM

  • incredible

  • This is a really nice song, and its better version isn't Abbas one, neither this von Otter, but great Nina Hagen: listen her, tender, powerful, amazing, full of grace and charm, with genuine sadness and even with a lovely humour...

  • Nina Hagens ver is awesome bad stuff!!!

Never heard some bad singing like that!

This is anywhere from musical earth...

  • listen to nina hagens' version too

  • As time passes, Benny Andersson's life is emerging as that of a great composer, who happened to employ pop early in his career to manifest his talent. Remove the labels and analyze the music. Had he been a hundred years earlier, perhaps you would be listening to his music today at La Scala or The Met.

  • This is wonderful music. Period. To say that Anne should stick to Strauss is just snobbish and plain silly IMHO. There's only good music and bad. ABBA and their compatriot, Anne Sofie von Otter clearly belong to the first group.

  • A shame though if she had done it in a higher key she could have used her brilliant lyric upper register.

  • To think she also sings Rosenkavalier, Brava!

  • Normally opera singers shouldn't try pop, but this is incredible! I just love how since Anne Sofie is Swedish, Abba just fits so well! She has such a rich low range.

  • I love to listen to Anne. I cry everytime I hear this. I've listened to it at least a 100 times. Thank you so much for this beautiful version.

  • i saw just two weeks ago for the first time this talented singer singing a cicle of schubertt hat is chamber music!. Making by force myself believing that is chamber: I still love her.

  • I just discovered this wonderful singer, what a beautiful voice.

  • Wat een geweldige vertolking! Een ras artiest en een geweldige intelligente vrouw en superb mezzo sopraan!

  • Sans aucune exagération la meilleure interprétation de cette chanson

  • Have you guys heard Madonna's version of this song? Pretty damn good!

  • With all the back up noise, you mean? How dare that person even attempted it. she should stick to her rap..pa..pa..pa. jumpy noise.making. What a shame! Light years away from someone of this lady's calibre.

  • Muh- DON-uh?????????? Give. Me. A. Break.

  • My name is Sofie too. ^.^

  • maybe one of the best Abba-covers besides Sissel´s ver of LAAPTMR.

The arrangement expresses the melancholic and sadness-touched text passages very well-impossible to find any song like that today...thank you B&B

  • Top notch. The year (2003) my first wife died prematurely of cancer, I discovered this wonderful song. I played it endlessly.

  • When I read your comment I cried as I did and still do the same thing. I play it endlessly.

  • @crawfish999 god bless you, crawfish. we all have our tunes...

  • @crawfish999 wow

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung

    Heartbreaking...

  • Maybe she should represent Sweden for Eurovision. I can only imagine how she'd score from the Eastern Europeans.

  • The Eurovision Song Contest should be scrapped or suspended until the quality of music is elevated. It was an event so sublime inthe tradition of the ABBAS, one of the last greats. And like what someone quipped, it is the EURO-DIVISION.

  • Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!!

  • Anne Sofie von Otter IS an amazing mezzo. She has far reached the point where she can sing whatever the hell she wants :P This performance shows her versatility and ability to make anything beautiful. A true musician's interpretation.

  • We look forward to her concert singing Mahler this Saturday, April 12. We will be sitting close to the stage. One feels so happy and relaxed after coming from a von Otter concert. In the morning I play her - I let The Music Speak - CD before I go to work which gives so much joy. A true musician, she touches your heart and soul, be it with Haendel or Benny Andersson. I pray she will continue for a long while. Anne Sofie von Otter forever! My best friend in Brazil, a law professor, is her fan.

  • so it is, she also touches my heart and soul, a real comfort...

  • Anne Sofie sang 6 songs of Mahler Des Knaben Wunderhorn for the solo voice, then hurriedly changed into her jeans and sweater to sign her CDs. She signed In My Elements for me and we had picture taking. How can a superstar like her keep her modesty - one of her great qualities. She sang to an adoring full packed Royal Concert House. My husband and I wish her the best.

  • Stupenda interpretazione!

  • I've seen her live with this show, she's incredible. At first it was a surprise for many spectactors, but at the end of the show she get a standing ovation and there tears in many eyes. I'll never forget those magic moments!

  • On the contrary, by singing a song of the ABBAs, von Otter lifted them all the more. And a highly world-acclaimed mezzo that she is, has also enobled opera. Watch her concerts and opera roles. Pweny, you surely don't belong to this club, eh?

  • I love her as a mezzo and have seen her live many times...Simply because she is acclaimed does not make her immune to mistakes...This is a mistake, in my silly opinion. Stick with Mahler and Berlioz and Strauss!

  • I still disagree with you. Von Otter is down-to-earth natural creature. She is great as mezzo-soprano but also enjoys singing other songs, what's wrong with that? Can't we enjoy her singing Strauss, Mahler, Haendel and let her sing pop (whow!) for the fun of it. She sang this ABBA song at the funeral remembrance of the assassinated Swedish Foreign Minister. See her in her jeans cycling in the streets of Stockholm, an aristocrat and famous opera singer like her, she is beautiful and fantastic!

  • Oh! no. My quite favorite opera singer singing ABBA or any else. It seemed to me horrible. I am in love with her voice, but definetively she is not able to be a pop singer.

  • I have a feeling that if people didn't know she was an opera singer, they wouldn't have known the difference. What difference does it make tat she's not a "pop" singer?

  • This has to be the most beautiful song I ever heard, and the vocalist has a truly lovely voice. It stirred me so much as I lost my darling husband and my sweet mother within 18 months of each other. Kath

  • It is wonderful to find people that understand the true meaning of this song and the beautiful presentation that Anne does. I cry my eyes out everytime I listen to it. See my previous post on page 2

  • I have been the caregiver for my late mother and father-in-law and am now caring for my father who has dementia and is 90. Each night I listen to this beautiful song and cry my eyes out with the wonderful memories that come back to me again. If one is not seeking something they will not find it. Magnificent!

  • I heard the abba version (original) and I like the one from Anne much more. And she sings very calm...I like it very much. :)

  • funny how so called classical singers never beat original popsingers, not even close

  • She should stick to R. Strauss...

  • Don't agree at all! Absolutely beautiful! I prefer this version and by far!

  • von Otter's effort seems passionless. To me, she's sleepwalking through the lyrics.

  • Tudo o que ela canta é lindo demais ... Bravo Madame ... Bravíssimo ...

  • why? did nina hagen covered this song as well? of course Frida's version of this song will always be better because the song was witten with her voice in mind!!!

  • I like the accompaniment but Frida rules.

  • one of the most touching songs from abba, i think. lyrics and music fit together perfectly. i like the arrangement here, but frida was so much better than anne sofie is. she should have sung with her classic voice. would have been better.....

  • she sings very good :-) this song makes me cry!!! but anyway i like frida's version more !!

  • The best version of this song is with Anni-Frid from ABBA as the singer :)

  • Nina Hagen is better, but let´s respect it, it´s her version, her soul

  • Maybe Anne Sofie sings better but show of Nina Hagen is much better. This here is boring!

  • I like the original song much better.

  • what i like about anne sofie...is not matter what song, or genre she is singing...i can always see the passion she has for singing. she is a TRUE artist and a big inspiration to me

  • I think her interpretation is unique and very beautiful.opera or no opera.

  • This Sofie? It is Anne Sofie von Otter, one of the greatest mezzo sopranos of our days. I have no opinion on whether she sings it very well or not, since this is not my favourite genre, but it's weird to say "this Sofie" as if she were a merely acceptable artist...

  • Very well Verdiano. These people need some educational lessons sometimes. You said, one of the greatest mezzo of ALL TIMES!!!

  • I agree, I have heard Sissel sing this song live with the Tabernacle Choir behind her and I still like Anne's better as she, to me, gets the meaning of this song. Frida of Abba didn't know what this song is about. It is not a pop song and all the lover's of Abba want it to be, I love Abba but they never knew what they had in this one-in my humble opinion.

  • Excuse me, will you be so kind to clarify "they never knew in this one-in". They created ALL these songs by themselves. They contributed their souls, life-experience and talent in all their songs and ...they never knew... Why can't you Americans put up with the fact that the best and most talented pop-group of all times was NOT from the USA, but from remote and provincial Sweden. Just reconcile yourself with that.

  • @VerdianoBR

A musicien above all,Anne Sofie Von Otter!!

I had the chance to listen her in Mozarts Opera Titos Clemence at Paris!!!

She is The Best Classical singer!!!

    poicpi

  • This song suits Sissel's voice better. However von Otters version of "I let the music speak" is the best i have heard.
