She was visiting her sister in St. Paul, made some friends, then went to this protest.
You're right, she was protesting, not rioting like some of the others. However, when the rioting IS going on, EVERYBODY at the scene is included. There are too many people there and there is too much chaos for the police to walk around and say, "You're only protesting, so we'll walk around you so we can clear out the ones doing property damage over there". Negative. They're going to treat everybody equally, and when they start telling people to move and to clear out, they should listen.
While we're arguing elsewhere, I would agree with you that (if she was breaking the law, and I believe she may have been) she should indeed have been locked up for the night.
She should not, however, have been hit with and then run over by bicycles, pushed to the ground, and maced as she was fleeing. That is how criminals proceed.
If committing a crime, she should have been arrested, cuffed, and jailed. That is how law enforcement should proceed.

For the record, she was a peaceful protester. I'm not sure if she broke any laws, as I don't have that whole story of if she was crossing the boundaries or what, but she wasn't out to harm anyone. She's a very strong, VERY compassionate woman that just wanted to express her opinions to the war. They treated her completely unfairly. They could have easily came up and tied her hands together, she wouldn't have fought it. They had no right to treat her like that.

You're right, she was protesting, not rioting like some of the others. However, when the rioting IS going on, EVERYBODY at the scene is included. There are too many people there and there is too much chaos for the police to walk around and say, "You're only protesting, so we'll walk around you so we can clear out the ones doing property damage over there". While we're arguing elsewhere, I would agree with you that (if she was breaking the law, and I believe she may have been) she should indeed have been locked up for the night.
She should not, however, have been hit with and then run over by bicycles, pushed to the ground, and maced as she was fleeing. That is how criminals proceed.
If committing a crime, she should have been arrested, cuffed, and jailed. That is how law enforcement should proceed.

Just sitting here with baited breath waiting for the inevitable comments about how this sister deserved it, from the vocal redneck mentality that governs American politics and discourse these days.
They did this stuff to journalists, legal observers, and residents of the city during the week they turned the capitol of Minnesota into a police state so the Republicans could have a big wank about abortion, Alaskan oil, and the "soccer mom" VP who once voted against equal pay for women...
