  • Lovely! So great to hear this... saw them in' 76 on the JTF tour...best band I ever saw. Well, maybe Springsteen on the River Tour came close :)

  • @ezrhino100 so true hahaha

  • Awesome arrangement

  • Fabulous stuff, thanks for posting, pity this hasnt cropped up on the recent deluxe additions .

  • van morrison+jimi hendrix= thin lizzy. you do the math.

  • phil could have been an R&B superstar. he could have done some country too.coulda woulda shoulda. with lizzy the possibilities are never ending. God bless you Phil wherever you are.

  • Don't mean to bother, but Running Back is my favorite song by Thin Lizzy and I can't seem to find a good live version, do you know of one?

  • NICE !

  • wow what a beautiful version of one of lizzys best. I would give up my left testicle to have been in that audience to see them play this song. wow.

  • Great ending, but is it just me or does it sound like Phil had the boys listen to the Eric Bell's closing solo in "Little Girl in Bloom" and copy it almost verbatim for the last 2 minute badass jam?

  • amazin version of this song - wow

  • Is there any way to get this as an MP3 file? It's so goddamn good.

  • @Heavymetalhitman I'm trying to figure out, there are websites that will take youtube clips and do that

  • lizzy was the best. the studio version of this song hooked me, and this just doubles my love for it. solo.....romeo.....

  • Comment removed

  • This beats the bejesus out of the studio version. Works much better at this speed

  • Music sounds like Borderline from Johnny the Fox. Brilliant!

  • Awesome!

  • this is smooth..i wish they would have done this sond on one of there live dvds

  • cool version,i reckon it better then the orig.......

  • I would KILL for a re-mastered version of this,..Lizzy went to Still In Love for their default live/ballad track (which still rocks) not long after this which makes this even more rare/special,..SUPER thanx for posting,..~T.Von.

  • At this tempo, this sounds a bit like a companion piece to "Little Girl in Bloom," particularly the harmony guitars beginning @ 5:33.

Sh*t-oh-bloody-dear, these guys were TOO hot for the room.

  • why aren't there more bands that use their bass like this?

  • Cause these wankers now have no feeling like Philo did.

  • Thin Lizzy are my absolute favourite band, Philo was and is an absolute legend- so much charisma and talent! I just love his voice. And the band collectively is just amazing. Pity I was born in '93, I would have loved to have seen the real deal.

  • ur so young

  • Yeah I was born in '93 too and basically grew up on Thin Lizzy because my dad played it all the time. He actually got to see them live once, he said they were amazing.

  • @ParkParks93 Mate, i feel exactly the same. I was born in '94 and would kill to have seen Thin Lizzy live (with Phil). I wish bands these days had this talent, composure and expertise.

  • @ParkParks93 Hahaa, same here :P And this is my absolute favourite song, and now.. this is my absolute favourite version.

  • that solo sounds VERY Mick Ronso-ish - meant to be a compliment!

  • I'm a Liverpool fan, and we drew 2-2 with the mancs. On that night, Lizzy played the Birmingham Odeon. As usual, after the gig, they let the fans filter through the dressing room for autographs (and the pick of the girls!). Phil saw my LFC badge and says to me 'you lucky barstards, we'll beat you in the replay'. I said i bet you a bass guitar you don't' and he signed my program 'to merlin, best wishes Phil Lynott'. A true rock star and how i wish now i could pay him the bet, cos we lost replay!

  • that's really cool man...

  • One of my faves and what a great version...

    Why do we grow older...

    ...DAM....

  • This song was always a favorite of mine .. especially the lead solo .. but I was a little surprised when I heard the tempo was so slow but within a few seconds I was loving it .. .anyone else here notice the "Still in Love With You " section starting at 5:10 ...sounds like they might of did it with this song first ... ANOTHER LIZZY CLASSIC !!!

  • Why do we grow older? Ask a certain group of people who regularly knock on peoples doors talking about religion. You know who I mean. Ask them the question. Listen and inwardly digest. Here endeth the lesson :-)

  • Incredible in my top 5 rock bands of the 70's for sure,

  • This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Hands down. Nothing compares to Philip and Thin Lizzy. NOTHING.

  • agree w/ your comment

and like ur utube tag too

    that is

    if it s a philosophy

if it s cuz u dont have a guitar

    tho thats a bummer

  • Actually, it's both. I'll spare you the details. Keep Lizzy on the box.

  • ooohhh, my georgious.....Phil was ever the best vocal... So nice to hear Scott`s nice intro here ..but for me he is a member of the Lizzis and Phil was the Lizzies. This one realy brings me into memory lanes.....

  • I cannot describe how much i love thin lizzy! !

  • I read somewhere that this song was written as a friendly "dig" at Gary Moore.

(Romeo is an anagram of Moore)

Phil and Gary had a pretty up and down relationship apparently. Lovely song, nice version.

  • That's true. It says that in "The Rocker".

  • Sorry guys, but the rating only goes to 5*.

    Thats just YT...

    10* easy.....thanks phil...allways

  • Better than the album version i think..

  • You may very well be right my friend!

  • Oh this is brilliant!! I just didn't realise there was so much quality early Lizzy floating around!

    Thanks a million!

    Cheers, CrazySchmidt.

  • Brilliant version! thanks a lot blacksabfan!

  • soooo smooth...

  • i am so happy to hear this!

    THANK

    YOU

  • Legendary stuff - so melodic.

Phil Lynott could be romantic without being schmaltzy, and what a voice.

Saw them with Robbo on the Bad Rep tour and a good few times after that with Gary Moore, Snowy and John Sykes, but not much touches this stuff.

    Much kudos to you, blacksabfan

  • unreal....god I miss you....

  • Thanx man blacksabfan this is a very good version of the original, more emotion

  • ya its Scott

  • Gives me shivers... did not actually notice until today how great that solo was! anyone know if its Scott or robbo? would take a guess at scott, but you never know:)

  • now thats such a rare treat thank you for this post LONG LIVE LIZZY!!!!!!

  • B R I L L I A N T

  • Thanks- new to this post and so much rare and fabulous stuff- thought I had most of the back catalogue and all these new versions lift my heart just like the originals- Born again!

  • its such an amazin song i love it :D

  • thanks cheers, jimi

  • This is obscenely good.

  • I thought I had heard them all....absolutely brilliant!! Thanks blacksabfan!!!!

    Phil..you are sorely missed...RIP!

  • I love this! I know they did play this song in the proper fast version too, but have never heard it live.

There are bootlegs of it. If ANYONE has this live and fast - please post!!!

Also would kill to hear a live version of Angel From The Coast - there's a live Chicgo 76 version of it, but again, yet to hear it. Have you got them BlackSab? Once again, keep posting.

  • I do have a live version of Angel From the Coast. It's from Birmingham on 3/15/1976. I'll post it Thursday.

  • very thank

  • GOOD GOD ALLMIGHTY! Why have I not heard this version before...? Thanks BLACKSABFAN. "Never judge lovers by good looking covers" Love that line.

  • The finest of fine wines

  • Megarare! OMG Im dying over here!

  • Blacksabfan=the god of youtube!

where on earth do you find these rare clips?

  • Completely blown away by this version, seen them live in the old Glasgow Apollo 76/77 were they played the faster album version. Thanks blaksabfan, truly great post

  • The train came in and Romeo pulled away" What is this ??

  • Thank You, blacksabfan.

    Just a great tune.

Phil had just THE most underrated voice in the world. Just beutifull.

  • This is so cool to hear. I prefer the record version, but once again, this is so cool to hear. Thanks dude.

  • tanks tow much. Seriously, when I first heard the tempo, after all those times of listening to the recorded version, I knew I had to thank you.

  • Sure as hell is rare.

  • the intro is great!!!!!!!!

  • good song

  • One of my all time favourite Lizzy songs! Never heard this version before. Thanks so much. Loved the words, the song, the solo, the works. "The train came in and Romeo pulled away"

  • Just great!

  • Heard this version! It's awesome!

  • I have this bootleg and its great.

  • The best version of this beautiful song,

For all his good looks there were scars that he took

And a lesson to be learned

Never judge lovers by a good looking covers

    The story might be spurned

  • isn't it "The lover might disperse" instead of the story line..

    and i agree, beutiful song.

  • I always thought it was 'the story might be spurned.' Live though, Lynott has said a few different things.

  • @blacksabfan - thought it was "that lover just might burn" - as in the book cover too...

  • Great Song.

  • Phil had to take a leak? ;)

  • great post.thanks!.cheers, jimi

  • Brilliant. Thank you for posting.

I thought the studio version was good, this is even better.

  • Thank you so much for posting, waiting for the normal fast start, but its really cool in slow tempo. RIP Phil
