Thanks man, knew how to do the crescent kick but the hook kick just mindfucks me, that broke it down to make it look much easier. I shall go try it now. OSS!
It's been awhile since I've commented, I've watched your videos since 2008 and use them for review when I am busy in life and fall behind in martial arts. Keep up the good work and I hope life is going well!
@robertej09 It is hard to tell a lot of times, but the biggest difference is what you're striking with. A Hook Kick strikes with the heel or sole of the foot. An Outside Crescent strikes with the knife-edge portion of the foot. Technique-wise, the Crescent uses more of the hip for power while the Hook uses more of the butt and hamstrings for power since the angle is different. I hope that helps.
why do people even watch this guy? hes shit. from the position hes kicking from he should be connecting with the centre of the camera (as if he were hitting whos watching the vid) also with a hook kick you dont connect the kick and then chamber back the leg before you put it down with a hook kick you hook a fraction before it connects and in self defense it hooks around the neck pulling them to the floor. and what exactly are you tricking? you dont trick static kicks theres no trick to them.
@chunkysupreme Perhaps you should do a little more research into tricking. If you can't perform a kick well on the ground, then you can't perform it in the air. Just like there are 2 different forms in some fighting arts (Escrima, TKD, Kung Fu, etc) that have BOTH FLOWERING motions as well as combative techniques, this is no different. The reason why I'm extending the kick is to create the flowering movement, which is ideal FOR TRICKS! Read some of the comments before saying stupid things.
@SykoDragon no mate your just a bellend who lives in denial. ive seen trickers REAL trickers trckin 540's to 1080's. your tricking static hooks and sidekicks. like i said theres no trickin static kicks. im not a tricker im a martial artist and all those trickers ive seen couldnt even kick but they cud jump, move and spin really fast so they were just flicking their legs out. but it still looks good. you keep saying this is the tricking version of a hook or cresent??? wheres the trick??? ya shit
@chunkysupreme Tricking isn't just jumping, spinning, and throwing a leg out, there are techniques out there to help make the Trick look more Flowery through extension. Seeing something and actually training in it are two different things. You'd figure that a "Martial Artist" such as yourself should know that. That's just the usual closed-minded bullshit that gets thrown around from people that won't even TRY to train in it but still want to throw in their 2 cents since they train to fight.
@SykoDragon and all my years in martial arts ive never heard of flowering motions??? and before you start about this or that i aint heard of it coz i dont do this style or watever, TKD which u mentioned has flowering motions is my main art and the only one i train in as well as reality based close quarter combat. and ive trained in kyokushin, shotokahn, kickboxing, muay thai and boxing. and im sat yur telling you, you avnt got a clue of how to kick or to trick from what i can see!!
@chunkysupreme Funny, since I've actually TRAINED with REAL trickers, Buddy. And not some backyard Trickers that just throw out kicks just to throw them out, but Martial Artists that actually throw Good kicks and compete with them. Those were the tips THEY gave me since they've been the ones training in Tricks for 15-20 years. And where do you start out before going into the air?? Static kicks for the right technique to make them flowering.
@chunkysupreme Well that's nice that you train in different arts, but you're also not the only one. The Flowering motions are extensions of movements to exagerate movements to make them flow better. In all of your "experience" you'd think that maybe you could even see the difference between them. Again, maybe you should do more research into it. A Kung Fu artist practices their forms for their Art, but also train in Sansou for FIGHTING! Two VERY different techniques they use.
@chunkysupreme These kicks on here are NOT how I kick in combat. You just mentioned yourself that your main TKD art you train in is for "reality based close quarter combat"...I'm pretty sure I've been saying that combative techniques and flowering techniques for show have two different techniques. Hell, you see it in most Martial Arts movies too. If you still want to try to argue and act like an Ass about how Tricking can be done by just throwing your leg out in a spin instead of recognizing
@chunkysupreme that there MIGHT actually be some technique behind it that the Pros actually do use to refine the look of it to have more of a snap to it, then maybe you should take your negative crap somewhere else. You seem to have good experience in the fighting arts but all you've done is throw shit out of your mouth trying to attack me instead of actually adding any positive criticism. To me, that's not part of the Martial Arts, but just some arrogant Asshole that feels he knows everything.
@SykoDragon well actually mate i dont know everything and what im disputing with you here is that you say your tricking and you say thats not how you fight, and also i didnt say i train in tkd for reality based training as its not reality based, i said thats my main art along with reality based close quarter combat also known as self protection. ok reading what i wrote i did come off as an asshole but you say your a martial artist and this is not how you kick in combat but the trickers you train
@SykoDragon with real trickers who are martial artists who use these tricking techniques for combat. so my arguement is correct. if used in combat lets say in a tournament the kick has to be done properly for force speed and in a tournament of course points and also avoiding injury. what i was first saying is that the kick shud be connecting dead centre with the camera lense, wether its a trick or not. theres a big difference in a martial artist and a tricker, its like someone who trains purely
@SykoDragon for tournaments, they cud be world champions but still get there asses kicked in the street ive seen it happen. so if a tournament fighter takes up tricking and starts to use those "flowering motions" in his kicks theyre going to be off target with less power and its gonna mess up his game. jus like a reality based fighter doing lets say a tkd tournament with no tournament experience will get his arse kicked. people here are watching you thinking your showing how to actually kick!
@SykoDragon and thats what pisses me off because ppl take this advice learn what your teaching and then the poor fuckers get there arses kicked! so im sorry if i was a bit of a dick. but if you were a real martial artist you yourself would know that as thats more important mate wether you are or not to be honest i dont really care. you do have skill when it comes to kicking but trust me stop using trick kicks coz it will mess up your real techniques
@chunkysupreme I appreciate your input, and it is better for to discuss different concepts than arguing. To be clear, though, my friends that have trained in TKD in Tricking actually say that it is just for that- Tricking, not for combat. I do realize there are schools that teach kicking techniques for combat AND for Tricking (I know of one more recently established school in my area that does). My friends are Martial Artist in that they train their kicks for Tricks- it's how they express
@chunkysupreme themselves. To me, there is a lot of confusion between what "categorization" an Art falls into, but that's all semantics. In the end, it's how a person expresses themselves through the Art. I will admit that when I made these videos 4-5 years ago, I did NOT state in each video the main difference between kicking for combat and kicking for Tricks. It's just how a Wushu artist will not fight how he does his forms, for the most part. In a street confrontation it is VERY different
@chunkysupreme I also get mixed up between which videos I've commented on about this as well. I've gone through a lot of people saying that it isn't for combat, and I've clarified it so many times before on other videos that this is only for Tricking. One of the biggest problems with Backyard Trickers before was that they would only throw their leg out into their Trick and call it a kick. Even if they could pull off a 720 or a 900, it would look sloppy and cut short. In Tricking, it's like
@chunkysupreme in the movies- everything is exaggerated to look good, but that's it. I always criticize movies for it, and my wife has already gotten more than earfulls about it, but I do realize now that it is just for that- for show. On your other points about application in real-life scenarios, I completely agree with your points and it's what I tell people when I'm teaching techniques for the combat. In fact, I used to hate Tricking because it wasn't applicable in real fighting situations.
@chunkysupreme I decided to Trick because it helped me keep in shape by applying my body in a different way that it was not used to. It's always good to put your body through a different workout regime every 6 months (a new Art, a new type of exercise, etc) to keep your muscles Adapting. Within your own workout regime, though, you should be switching up routines a lot sooner than that regardless. Though, doing the same exercises over and over again actually can end up being detrimental to
@chunkysupreme your overall health. So I decided to change it up with Tricks for the Martial Arts. Learning to adapt my body and move it in various ways on a whim is my True Goal for the Martial Arts, so that I can change my technique, body, style, etc, in any way at any time depending on the situation- even if I'm not using Trick Kicks for fighting, it helps me with Adaptation. That's moving off topic, but anyways. Again, I do appreciate your input and as I said before, you do seem to have
@chunkysupreme a lot of good experience in the fighting arts, which is great! It helps out with a lot of the inexperienced people out there. I've been wanting to redo these videos for years, really, and just never had the time to redo them. I've mentioned in other video comments that I won't teach kicking techniques for combat on here just because it's YouTube. I'd rather teach that in person, since one-on-one teaching is much more effective and should be taught by an Instructor not a video.
@SykoDragon oh ok fairplay, now i get your meaning. this is the bad thing about youtube where as a small percentage want to learn or advise the rest just want to take the piss or criticize ppl even when theyre good. im not usually one for commenting or critcizing butlike i said i hate seing ppl thinking theyre learning real techniques. ive thought about some tkd tutorial vids on here but like i said before no matter how good or bad ppl jus bitch and curse so i dont bother i got too much shit
@SykoDragon goin on evryday aint got time to be answering all comments n shit. also i agree with you on being taught by an instructor you dont just learn the moves you also learn to avoid injury whilst performing these moves ive seen ppl twist the ligaments and tortion in there knee from not pivoting on the balls of their feet because they have absolutely no clue of how to kick, they watch the movies and give it a go, a bit silly really inni. anyway take it easy man i hope all goes well for you
@chunkysupreme Thanks Man. Like I said, I appreciate your input; you've got good info. I've injured myself before trying to go to the air first and not being able to land correctly, so I know what you mean (never used to get off the ground at all before Tricks). And no harm no foul- it's the Nature of YouTube or any online videos, really. If you do get a chance to put up some tutorials, hit me up so I can watch them- even if you host them somewhere else. Good Luck Training!
@SykoDragon yeh man no worries if i post any vids ill be sure to let u know. getting into the air is difficult i found that ankle wieghts are a good way of getting air use skipping ropes or simply do knee tucks with them on when you take them youll feel light as a feather. it worked for me also theyre very good for all round leg strength. give em a go. good luck with your training aswell man.
Thank you for all of the comments. The notes did not state it, but this is the Tricking form of the Hook Kick/Outside Crescent. I would not use this technique in Fighting. Apparently the other tutorial notes had been changed as well and do not state it, and it has caused a lot of confusion, judgement, and hate towards them as the "only way to kick". For forms, it is a great way to perform it, but note that it has to be modified to use in combat. Good luck training!
Very nice try-ing to learn the hook kick to use it in muay thai.....ive just joined TKD im a white belt they wont teach me jack...till i reach green or blue belt...thnx for uploading im sure il be able to practice in better now. Nice kicks btw!!
YES! Nice tutorial! Love it! I learned a lot! Good form, and, at last, I can practice doing THE RIGHT form of doing a spinning hook kick. I can only do a turning back kick b'fore I saw your vid and, WOW! Now I can do the correct form. Thanks a bunch =)!
Your tutorial was very good. Not only do you have the skills, which are imperative, but you're also a clear speaker. I've always felt like my crescent kicks were lacking, and after watching your video, I think I have found some tips to improve.
I had taken about a month of TKD with my friends that was geared towards Tricks. Other than that, I just like learning new technique for various moves.
You do the kick both directions ,good symetry. That's what is so great about MA , you eventually stop thinking about Right and Left , the oneness of mind and body , good form, man
I honestly don't really care about my belt. Belts are only a measure of one or a few people that SAY you are ready for that particular belt and is generally biased towards individual skill. If you really want to know, just message me and I'll let you know.
Opening up your hips, for the most part, means to extend your leg away from the front of your body. For example (simplified vers): lift your leg in front of you, then without turning your body, move your leg to your side. That is opening up your hips. There's a lot more technical info about this, but that's the gest of it.
I always forget to mention how there are different ways of training, and these videos are just one way that I have trained. I like variety, and being able to change one's own way of training/application of something is more useful than doing it in only one way. It helps with becoming Adaptable to any situation.
we did hook kicks today in class. Our instructor said basically its a side kick that misses and you snap the hook . I think that helped out. The video seemed good but too much explaning sometimes showing is better then saying..
It's Important for people to know that (as blprom said) flashy stuff is only meant to be flashy, not for real fight scenarios. I only do the flashy crap for fun and to be able to modify my technique at will. Also, the stronger you get at the maximum point of flexibility will increase power and control at lesser degrees of flexing. Happy training!
-I prefer the (Clinch+Knee to the chest/head) or (Clinch+Elbow to face). If you have the quickness, then this should be the best way to defend against a "Tough-Guy" who wants to F-You up. The problem with all the flashy kicks is you will not get the room in a "Bar-Fight". I have been there, and the Clinch+Knee did the old KTFO. Mr."Tough-Guy" was taken to get broken nose fixed. The funny thing was his friend later came back and appologized.
tdunks is right on. Never kick high in a self defense situation. Thats all Hollywood crap. The only time I'd kick to the face is if they are on the ground!!
the kicks are ok but to the person that said he could kick your ass to anyone who dissed them not with those kicks he wouldnt LMFAO they are completely innefective in a real fight...in a street fight you kick low with as little telescoping as properly aka kick the legs knees ect. at the highest the solarplexes with a front kick.
I disagree with tdunks, i was sparring and got a hook kick to the face and never saw it coming, only a mui thai kick should go below the belt, or a knee kick. its just a matter of how you set it up. attack with jabs to the face until you see your opponent closing their eyes, then give em a hook kick.
anybody that dissed this guy would probably get owned by him. "your kicks suck" it doesn't matter if the kicks suck, it is are they useful and effective. Yeah, I think he would kick you pretty nicely in the head in a real fight.
i really like your hook/spinning hook kicks. I practice taekwondo, and those kicks are among my favorites. Now i'm trying to learn the jump spinning hook kick..haha..no success yet. What martial arts do you practice?
lemaik2000,kingzero200 (name says alot) are idiots and don't know anything about kicks till the next time they get one in the jaw, good explanation, keep up the good work
Thanks man, knew how to do the crescent kick but the hook kick just mindfucks me, that broke it down to make it look much easier. I shall go try it now. OSS!

just out of curiosity, what degree black belt r u, and in what martial art
heatman32 4 years ago
I honestly don't really care about my belt. Belts are only a measure of one or a few people that SAY you are ready for that particular belt and is generally biased towards individual skill. If you really want to know, just message me and I'll let you know.
SykoDragon 4 years ago
Wow, you're pretty good, say you got any pointers About the Tornado kick?
Message me if you can, thank you.

@heatman32 its a white belt.. but it's so dirty that it seems like a black belt

I really like this video, very imformative, can you exaplain though what you mean by 'opening your hips'?
fluoroneuro 4 years ago
Opening up your hips, for the most part, means to extend your leg away from the front of your body. For example (simplified vers): lift your leg in front of you, then without turning your body, move your leg to your side. That is opening up your hips. There's a lot more technical info about this, but that's the gest of it.

hey who is this guy?
FLipGuy45 4 years ago

The only time I'd kick to the face is if they are on the ground!!
wheelkick 4 years ago
the kicks are ok but to the person that said he could kick your ass to anyone who dissed them not with those kicks he wouldnt LMFAO they are completely innefective in a real fight...in a street fight you kick low with as little telescoping as properly aka kick the legs knees ect. at the highest the solarplexes with a front kick.
tdunks 4 years ago
I disagree with tdunks, i was sparring and got a hook kick to the face and never saw it coming, only a mui thai kick should go below the belt, or a knee kick. its just a matter of how you set it up. attack with jabs to the face until you see your opponent closing their eyes, then give em a hook kick.
drache64 4 years ago
sparring and a street fight are completely different a street fight youy want to end it as quickly as possible.
tdunks 4 years ago
lol sorry, i forgot i'm a bit of a show off in street situations.
drache64 4 years ago
anybody that dissed this guy would probably get owned by him. "your kicks suck" it doesn't matter if the kicks suck, it is are they useful and effective. Yeah, I think he would kick you pretty nicely in the head in a real fight.
