This is what happens if you try to run Windows 1.03 or earlier on later versions of DOS, most particually with DOS6.0 and 6.22

Surprisingly, Windows 1.0 or at least 1.01 runs quite fine on the NTVDM.

[NTVDM is like a subset in NT that allows 16-bit DOS and Win3.1 programs to run on NT OS's as the NT line isn't built off of DOS like Win9X and Win1.0 and up had]

I've used Vista with no problems, but it IS a resource hog. XP has security issues, and 7 as well as Vista aren't too good when it comes to legacy compatibility. 7 is best in stability AND security, though you need a spare XP computer somewhere (or a virtual machine if your computer can handle 7 and XP running at the same time) if you want to run really old stuff without crashing. And Ubuntu or Linux Mint are obviously the best, but too many people are scared to use Linux so it doesn't get much.

I gave up and shelled another $300 for XP after a year ME came out.

I mean Vista was laggy as fsck due to Microsoft plastering Aero and UAC in every nook and cranny but it got better with service packs and hardware improvements, ME on the other hand, shafted the owners with half-assed mix of legacy DOS kernel and 32-bit media support then the next version coming out a year later that's vastly improved.

Well except for the fact that Windows 1.03 didn't even boot properly, I had most frustrations with Windows ME and Vista doesn't even come close. ME was the biggest turd Microsoft ever shat out of their ass.

After using it for about 6 month I had to deal with the BSoD 15 minutes into booting and subsequent and more frequent BSoDs after that before I gave up and rebooted.

@SSJStrongBad It has to do with windows 1 not having a ps/2 mouse driver, which i presume the emulator uses an emulated ps/2 mouse. It requires a special ps/2 mouse driver from windows 2
