Excuse me for asking...but what the hell is this piece of shit? You people obviously have no clue who Philip Glass. Being a theatre major at the Julliard School, I am usually more inclined to give a critique. But I don't really know what to say besides listen to one of Philip Glass' tracks before directing an entire play about the man.
Wow, well, I'm very impressed with Juilliard credentials... I'm sure we all are... despite the fact that you misspelled the name of the school that you're supposedly enrolled in. Also, don't blame actors for a director's misstep. A quick look at the comments below would show you that I've already said that I disagreed with this director's concept, and that this does not at all invoke the world of Glass's music.
the direction was a bit over the top and not at all with the style, but a big choice for such a young group of performers it was probably the only way to get them to emote more than what is written, as it was one of the performs say they had a difficult time with the scene because looking at from young performers view it says nothing or at least the same thing over and over. in other words it was an advanced piece in the first place, not a brilliant choice for high school material.
I saw this at The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago about 10 years ago- I do notI like the military chant in this version, and agree that there was too much pitch variation. The version I saw (damned if I remember the director) was done in normal, conversational tone without much pitch variation. What was fascinating was the send off of Glass himself, in that the actors had the timing and pace down to such perfection that it really DID sound like a Glass minimalist piece.
im currently philp glass in this scene, and i absolutely HATE it. ive never seen it done before, this one is kinda cool. i just dnt like the scene at all!!
The lighting was very pretty. I have to agree with the military comment, though. I'm not saying that you can't make it work, but I didn't see any reason for having it. Because it's weird? Most people who think that this piece of theatre is "weird" or "random" simply don't understand it.
The military chant was a directorial chant that I, personally, strongly disagreed with (I played Philip Glass).
I agree it has nothing to do with Philip Glass or his music, but the director was an egomaniac, and I already given her a hard time over the fact that I hadn't gotten my Trotsky-Axe wig until a week before we opened.
Why do people evel want to watch this shit? it sucks so bad

like is said a group of young performers and a director that had to get something out of them.
this is not easy material, even for a pro.

No, it's "Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread." It's the last one in the published collection.
