1. First you FOIL. 2. Then you add the like terms you just foiled. 3. Then you make the equation = 0. 4. Then you factor. 5. Then you do the conclusion, x = something or x= = something else. :)

@moniquerose1 Because there is much more to subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division. How would an architect build buildings without math? Or a company designer designing a product without using proportions? If you want to be stupid then go right ahead, but math is the basic skill that is needed to get a good job on this planet.

You need to find the greatest common factor, Example:

5x^2-5x-10

We know the GCF is 5, so we can cut it out of the parenthesis.

5(x )(x )

Then if we simplify the original problem we get

x^2-1x-2 (So here is the binomials.

Then you can just do regular factoring.

5(x-2)(x+1)

you shuld have also mentioned that by using that technique often yu will get what is called an extraneous solution which basicly means one of the two x equals will not work in that case your answer would only be the one that does work.
