The system need more integration of black teachers in the school. I have heard from alot of black teachers in Canada who are trained and qualified to practice,however,the College of teachers are refusing to give these black teachers licences to practice. If people want to learn about Africa so badly, they can take it in university. Adding in history about countries unrelated to our own goes beyond the scope of high school education. Hell, I like German, but instead I learned French in high school, you don't hear me complaining. I took German in university, problem solved.
First, blacks have had a big impact on Canadian, history from the time of Europeans entry into the New World til' now, and thats a good couple centries. Also there have been key black inventors who came from Canada, along with black cowboys, soldiers in the WW's, and the list goes on. Two, not everyone has the privlege of being able to attend a university. Third, even the critics of the afrocentric school acknowledged that the system is need of reform to adjust to the diversity.
I feel that many of the children who will graduate from a school like this will be ignorant and racist. I feel that children should learn both Canadian and world history (including Africa). Black history month implies that all other months are non-black history month which is untrue. This is a great idea. The majority of black students are a menace to the education system with very little to contribute to the education experience. Why should we undermine the education of students from other backgrounds when we can isolate the problem and address it more effectively.

I think one of most powerful things a people can do is educate their own children. I think it is imperative if parents see that the educational system is failing their children they find a better way. Why such opposition to such a small minority of students? You can't have it all, sometimes people have to do what in the best interest of their children. I have heard from alot of black teachers in Canada who are trained and qualified to practice,however,the College of teachers are refusing to give these black teachers licences to practice. I think having an Afrocentric school witha focus on africentric ideology is godo to have as a specialist school, and that other schools should integrate africentric ideology into the cirriculm, similar to how u have schools that specialise in arts programs for students who have a special interest in the arts (i.e.drama) while most schools sill have arts programs also.
this way africentric ideology can reach the masses most effectively by using the two opposing spectrums together

If people want to learn about Africa so badly, they can take it in university. Adding in history about countries unrelated to our own goes beyond the scope of high school education. Hell, I like German, but instead I learned French in high school, you don't hear me complaining. I took German in university, problem solved.

First, blacks have had a big impact on Canadian, history from the time of Europeans entry into the New World til' now, and thats a good couple centries. Also there have been key black inventors who came from Canada, along with black cowboys, soldiers in the WW's, and the list goes on. Two, not everyone has the privlege of being able to attend a university. Third, even the critics of the afrocentric school acknowledged that the system is need of reform to adjust to the diversity.

I feel that many of the children who will graduate from a school like this will be ignorant and racist. I feel that children should learn both Canadian and world history (including Africa). Black history month implies that all other months are non-black history month which is untrue. If you plan to apply for a job or a post-secondary institution; after graduating an africentric school, I hope you are called racist and turned down.

But maybe with an afrocentric education, they will learn to have faith in their own abilities and create their own businesses, so they wont need you or your kind to hire them.

African is an origin and whites don't originate from africa but northern europe.
Human "Races" (black, white, yellow, red) are a product of specific environment.
African is not a nationality, but specify a phenotype.
When i say Black-African, it's to differentiate the black phenotype defined by the african environment to the others asia, australia etc. everywhere there is a tropical/hot climate.

First of all, I never stated my race because it's irrelevant. I'm not "against" anyone. Secondly, we're not talking about Africa, or Panama, we're talking about Canada. This school promotes segregation, and gives young black children the idea that they are different. Possibly, but it's better to try another approach than just accept it as a fatality.
nevertheless i do think it could work.
For example it has been proven that africans coming from africa (1st and 2nd generation) are the most educated population group in US and UK.
search wikipedia or google for "African diaspora" there is an article about it.
So if blacks in white society are failling so much > 40% (it like mass suicide), there must be a reason for that.

This school is an alternative. That means choice. Why do ppl want to make choices for other ppl? No one is being forced int o this. If ppl want to snd their children, good GOD, let them do it in peace.If you don't like it, then DON'T, but don't fight down ppl for their choice. To each their own. I'm not even advocate for the school but who wants to send their children should not be chastisd for trying to make a positive change.

A school's existence shouldn't depend on who you think might attend or not. The fact of the atter is there are the parents of 130 who want their child there, and more on a waiting list. ALTERNATIVE, not mandatory. You don't like it, don't send yours. As for who will or won't go, that is on them. Black ppl run parties, churches, communtiy centres, sports clubs and non-blacks are always accepted and welcome. This isn't even owned by blacks so we ca't exclude. Only others can exclude themselves.

A Liberal Government in the early part of the 20th century very nearly banned African-American immigration, at a time when immigration rates were far higher than they are today. Had the government not fallen, many historians believe the legislation would have passed, and we'd be living with the shame of it up until the present day.

Why is Africentric being equated with "black focused". What the hell does that mean anyway? The ancestry of black people originate from every corner of the globe. Africa the continent is completely foreign to many people of colour.
Furthermore africa consists of MANY cultures originating many countries. The assumption that black people are derived from and share a singular culture is a racist notion.

It's more than anything about the extent to which communities emphasize learning as a means of self-improvement. Systemic racism no doubt plays a role, but given that it's not even remotely what it used to be, it can be overcome through a commitment to academic excellence.

When you're discussing the survival of your children, there is no need to apologize for it. In Los Angeles, the Marcus Garvey School under Dr. Anyim Palmer is the best prototype of an independent African-centered school. He has it from pre-school to high school. For the people of Toronto who are advocates of reclaiming our youth, I suggest that the Garvey School be used as a prototype for your success.

This is a great idea. The majority of black students are a menace to the education system with very little to contribute to the education experience. Why should we undermine the education of students from other backgrounds when we can isolate the problem and address it more effectively.
