$3000 for a "gaming" laptop that has only 2 cores and 8 gig of ram. Ummm I can build a computer with 8 cores, 32 gigs of ram, a 2 gig video card (it does exist) with water cooling,a 2 tb hard drive, a 27 inch screen and a beyond amazing motherboard for HALF of that. Wtf Razor way to jip people. Shit I can customize a 17" laptop with 6 cores a 1 gb video card with a 500 gb hard drive and 16 gigs of ram for less then this.
I agree, what i would like is that screen to be able to flip back and forth from a mouse to a number pad ... i doubt it will work with every or even most games
i could not agree with u more man i got the same g74sx as u but i got a3gb video memory and i would rather buy this than the racist blade which i previously found it cant swap out any of its internal components
Clevo W170HR will cost $1400 with identical specs. Clevo P150HM will have twice the performance for under $1600, while weighing under 7lbs. This is a terrible gaming laptop
wouldn't the m14x be a better choice than this, since they both have the same graphics card and since when do 17inch laptops are termed ultra portables notebooks.
OK my opinion on this is very cool laptop , ofcourse i dont like the price, about the LCD screen its cool if you play without mouse (I think), but I dont think any gamer will play without mouse . FPSFriday good video and about your gaming laptop its cool yea but does you really those high performance cuz today games are like a lot below that you have so ... its cool but the razer one have the optimal performance for todays games yea probably you wont change your laptop like for 2 more years!
I acheive the same effect by taping my itouch to the keyboard xD But yeah this laptop is very cool, but theres better stuff you can get so wait till they refine the lcd pad and this technoology comes to a affordable price.
first id like to say love the review~ also id like to add something about how often would you look at the number pad. =) the answer is never due to we never experienced the LCD factor located in that area of which the num pad would be located yet. i feel it could be helpful especially to those who'd love to have focus on life skills, mana or other special stats that we would not like currently on our main screen. i would recommend this for the MMOrpg player rather then the FPS more.
Hmm, I think Dell/Alienware and their M11x were the real first 'portable' gaming laptop, I'm pretty unimpressed with the specifications of Razer's device considering the incredibly hefty price tag and overall size (dimension wise, that is)
It's early days though, I'm curious to see how Razer will develop the machine if it proves to be a success, I foresee them downscaling it, for sure.
Good work and you are right. I was looking into getting this but then I saw the price & I had to know why its so much. I'll looking into the laptop you have
The reviews are all the same. There is always better hardware out there. It's not about that! It's about what optimization the hardware can get in our current market of games.
They worked their hardware to accommodate some of the latest game engines to date. Which means there is a guarantee that this product will play everything you need it play at great fps.
No one needs more than this. Find something that this laptop can't do today and then you have an argument.
@erik5388 well i'm pretty sure it can't play BF3 (the game its showing in one of the clips) in the laptops native resolution of 1920x1080 . The gt 555m simply wont allow it. too weak a graphics card
I' getting a gaming laptop and budget is ~$1500 give or take a few hundred..
I was looking at the Alienware M14x with the i7 processor. new 3.0 mg video card, and just little add ons here and there. After looking at your rig i might be changing...what is your view on it. Pros and cons
The LCD should actually be useful if you play games that require a lot of hotkeys for different skills. However, there are already many programs out there that allow you to customise those skills into your hotkeys anyway. Besides, shouldn't they put the LCD on the left side, instead of the right side? It is much easier this way, unless you are left-handed and thus, you use your mouse with your left hand.
I can't tell if they're just trolling or actually think this is really a true portable gaming laptop. If they actually think that then who ever thought of that must be the most dumbest person ever.
I think this laptop is missing the SSD hard disk. I don't know if it has blu-ray drive?! so that would be handy as well since games are growing very big on size! nothing about the screen on the laptop, is it LCD LED? I don't know!
the touch screen could be great with the buttons, and I have to agree with the reviewer we don't know how handy it would be.
In the vid you said you could message us about gaming laptops that are out right now and i was wondering if you could tell me a couple of good ones, I currently have about $2000 saved up for a new computer, since i need a laptop for school i thought why not kill 2 birds with one stone and get a gaming laptop since my desktop is about 6 years old and not good for current gaming. Anyways, I was thinking about getting the msi gt683dxr-427us , as getting a 15in would be ideal for school.
I pretty much agree what you say on your video. I dont see any funtion on these clickable lcd either. They just take extra juice and battery dies earlier. I like the thickness of that laptop, though ... But 2800 $ ...?! I see it it just a laptop for sillys
an y r people so weak these day come on alienware have really good laptops but they weigh to much? so wut stop bein a bitch they kickass go hit the gym an become a man ill carry that laptop anywhere if ur a true gamer u wuldnt really give a fuck about the weight an how thin it is ull jus care about performance!!
the 10 extra keys and panel r used for 2 different things if ur not using a mouse that is wen they r ur commands an u use the touch pad to navigate wen ur using a mouse it is used for different functions the ten keys culd b apps as in youtube an ur music an etc. an say if ur playin any game an u need a walk through u culd use that panel to go on the browser an watch the walk thru an never exit ur game ..but i agree even with that cool feature i wuld not pay 2800 for it i wuld rather get an m18x
It's portable but does it have a good cooling system like other gaming laptops because if it has good video card and processor it doesn't matter if it always overheats
Obviously some of you commenters here don't even think about what they're saying. The MacBook is thin and light, and that is how laptops SHOULD be. Gaming notebooks, however, are as thick as bricks and crush your lap (not all the time).
The RAZR Blade is trying to combine the lightness of the MacBook and the power of the overweight current gaming laptops. No laptop like that currently exists, hence the "first true gaming notebook" line.
We understand that this would probably be the first gaming laptop to be both slim and powerful And i actually like the LCD screen. The reason we cannot picture ourselves using it is because we dont have one on our laptops now. It will probably take some getting use to. However, i think the point fpsfriday is trying to make is "at what price". $2800 for a LITTLE more portability is a bit too much right? Unless your like some rich kid :-p
And also the LCD, AT THE CURRENT MOMENT, is sadly not gonna work with alot of games. i feel Gamers wouldnt mind a little more bulk at half the price.Razor is probably still testing the market. We should wait until they come up with a more balanced product. Probably the next one in this series. we'll see!
$ 2800 wwwhhhaaattt!! apparently I can get anything if I get A's in gcse I can get anything but I doubt I can get this.I'm lookin for a gaming laptop under £1000
Hey since you mentioned about the macbook pro I just got a quick look and I customized my own macbook pro ...I'm no expert so I would really appreciate if you could take a look compare it with the Blade and tell me what you think:
*2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7;
*8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB;
*500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm;
*MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
*(graphics) AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.
THis would be a fantastic computer for After Effects and Adobe Premiere, I've switched over from Final Cut Pro on my macbook pro. My MacbookPro is slower but it is 400 bucks cheaper....choices choices
How about commending them for trying something new instead of hating on them because you didnt like the implementation of its use in one demo of one game
Quad core doesnt mean itll out-perform a dual core. Its about how the software is programmed to take advantage of the hardware. In todays times games are built more to take advantage of two cores. Further more your review sucked. Starting with the comparison to a damn macbook, all the way to you hating on the company trying something new with the touch screen. Would you rather them not try and be innovative? Put out another bland laptop that might as well say hp or dell?
Because it is the first release of it's own kind, I would not purchase it, but after they do some more research and find a more stable, practical use for the LCD I'd gladly buy it and test it out. $2,800 is understandable for now. Again people fail to understand who exactly this product is being marketed to, certainly not the casual gamer (imo). Nevertheless I'd have to agree with your review, but I for one am proud to see new innovations coming out on the market.
@limbo9653 I totally agree with your comment that you are proud to see new innovations on the market.. I think the video would have been better if they full explained what the abilities of the touch screen could do... Its very hard to incorporate games into a touch screen from one manufacture.. Thats means Razon would have to reach out to EA, Blizzard, etc.. all the gaming publishers and ask them to spend money on making an addition to the game so it will work on there one product they have.
Software developer like Blizzard have to approve the source code release so "Razor could develop their own API program for those buttons due to infringement & compatibility issue. It nothing new, the relationship between software and hardware happen all the time like apps developer & Iphone or driver update for your printer. $1200 for an app seem ridiculous when win7 cost $150 with 50 million SLOC, whereas razor's buttons usually less than (at most) 4000 lines of codes.
Great questions you guys lets keep this topic going.... Here is something to think about.. Lets say i get one of these and do a review on it.... This is one of the review questions I'm gonna bring up... What happens when one of the LCD screens on my keyboard Fails, AKA goes out!?!?!
I seem to strike my keys very hard sometimes while playing CSS, what if i hit a LCD and it goes out... I'll need to for sure read my warranty. 2 years passes im out of warranty.. LCD dies on me what now, $2800
Innovation happen all the time, but the differences between success and failure is based on how you reach your audience. This new laptop category is a contradictory one, Dell XPS 17 have equivalent spec cost $1600 and with a GT555m, it really for "casual to high end gamer" on the go (like WC3, SC2, but not FPS games) yet the price tag audience is situated for no "non sense serious gamer". Will the majority pay $1200 more for being a bit more portable? If not it another fail product.
I'm confused as well with the whole LCD screen on the RIGHT side of the keyboard. First of all it's completely useless for major FPS gamers, simply because your left hand will always be hovering around WASD 123456. but there is a way that Razer could integrate the new LCD keyboard technology useful for RTS players by switching it to the LEFT side. This way muscle memory can enable a player to shift their hand over and multi task that way. Either way I'm super stoked for this new product.
Here is one thing to take into consideration all...... The life of a battery on a laptop computer? I don't know about you but here at FPSfriday the guys we play with are running some laptops with almost a year old Gaming laptop and their battery is about at 50-70% of full charge... in another year maybe not working to 50%. Seems like a silly thing to spend almost $3000 for 2 years. Lucky us the guys at FPSfriday have batteries that can detach and they can simply swipe them out. Non-built-in
Is this a joke?? Alienware m11x (11.6 inches screen) is a portable and truly gaming laptop. Also Alienware m14x (14 inches screen). They have better specs, and they cost less than the half....
@hedugaro You do bring up a good argument but I'll have to disagree with you on the screen size. Here at FPS we don't consider a gaming laptop anything under 15 inches. To be honest its very hard to play some games on very small screen real-estate. You always want the most for a gaming laptop. But you do bring up a good case because If you do want a small screen you can have it with a powerhouse of performance and for way less the cost.
@FPSFriday Why don't you compare it to Clevo laptops, both the cost and performance. Then try to justify the $2800 pricetag. This is a marketing scam.
Love all the comments guys.. But I got a question for you, well not really a question but here goes.... RAZOR says, "PC GAMING IS NOT DEAD" Don't you think companies like Razor are the reason its going away, cause people can't afford to own a 2800 laptop thats only good for about 2 years when a console your gonna guaranteed to get at least 5 years of gaming out of for $300.00?
You are a little bit embarrassing. This video looks like a jealous and comparison of Your and more expensive laptop.
I have MSI GX740 which is crap according to Asus, mostly in material execution aspect. But we do not have any reviews of razor yet so please hold on until them. For me Your review is like comparing PC to Playstation 3 in hardware point of view.
Also i am sure then price will be reduced shortly.
@spychacz84 What are you talking about... its a spec sheet they don't lie... you don't order a laptop with an i7 then when you open it its an i5. These are spec sheets of whats going to be in the unit its not like a mystery laptop. I know how it will preform... biased on the SPEC SHEET.... I already know the Asus Laptop is gonna out preform it cause it has better specs, you looking at a 2800 price range cause its something new and thin...... We see this every 6 months its called Apple
There turning into MAC for PC, which defeats the purpose of a PC. It's even more expensive than. Alienware design like gaming laptops and even netbooks. The m11x and m14x. The M11x is 4.5lbs and is using a i7 duo-core, the M14x is using a quad core with the same GPU as the Blade. The M14x is only 5.5lbs So it's actually lighter than the blade. *shrugs* I like the Razer designs, but they are trying to hard to make it look like a Mac air. Only suckers will buy this laptop.
I really wished they made the pricing more competitive...but I have always wanted a gaming caliber note book in a MacBook form factor ..the laptop is great but yess pass will be the word I am looking here...hopeful the next iteration of this will be my next notebook till then I am hooked to my Gaming Desktop..
Really great video, i enjoyed it and agree with everything. How often do you take your hand off the mouse and move it to the num pad....How often do you move your left hand off WSAD and to the num pad? That is as practical as installing a 2" lcd screen on the back of your mouse... Not realizing your palm will cover it 99% of the time. Cool but... impractical
Should i get this in july or alienware now?

They have better specs, and they cost less than the half....
hedugaro 6 months ago

You are right about HDD size

I dont see why the number of cores is relevant when you dont mention how fast they actually are...

Cool but... impractical
