I'm glad you threw him back. I have a Red Bellied Pacu as a pet and I love these fish. My Pacu is almost 14 inches long now and he needs a bigger tank. I was one of those people who didn't research what I was buying... I have plans for a 300 gallon upgrade though!

Someone caught a 21 inch pacu in a local river where I live in Cleveland,Ohio. It was in the paper they thought it was a pirahna, Duh. Petstores should not sell them they get to big for aquariums unless you can afford a couple thousand gallon tank. People throw them in rivers and lakes when they get to big.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of stories like that, people please, research fish before you buy them, impulse buys often lead to bad situations.
