  • detroit will never ever have the chance to host the olympics again, because of blacks

  • @KingOCleveland because of blacks? i dont think so. b/c of greed

  • at 3:07 those five gears are STRIPPED as of 2010 was kwame , monica or young part ot that enthuastic talent?and at 3:25 the narrator left blacks out, Why?

  • @ampp02 Because Detroit wasn't enlightened back then, it was only successful. Today, Detroit is enlightened and under the controll of "progressives" who care about "all the people".

  • In my personal opinion, back then Detroit definitely could have hosted the summer games, now however after a major downfall, I think it would be much more realistic to host the winter games. If Detroit ever has a chance to bid again...

  • May Detroit's brighstest days lie ahead.

  • @denton1972 Yea. Sure. Same with Gary, Indiana.

  • Mexico City was a late addition to the Olympic bidding process-and since the Olympics were never held in a dev cntry like Mexico-they were given the bid-Det came in 2ndPlace, again. They came in 2nd place for the 64 olympics too-that is why they were considered a shoe in for the 68 games-but that didn't happen. They bid in 72-but Det didn't even come close for those-came in 4th in that voting. Det tried and tried to get the games-after 5 tries-a new mayor-whose name i wont mention-they gave up

  • ppl he can do the OLYMPICS 2024 IN DETROIT AND/OR Youth Olympic Games 2022 it can be done if we put some good hard work to it

  • Also, if Argentina could host the World Cup while it was basically in the middle of a civil war, I don't see any problem with the Olympics taking place in Detroit. After all, it's not like Beijing is the pinnacle of urbanization, either.

  • I think the best part about Detroit is that the citizens of the surrounding suburbs, when questioned about being from "Detroit," don't even make an attempt to defend the city -- they just say, "Oh, haha, I'm not from Detroit. I'm from Bloomfield Hills, which is in the richest county per capita in the country!" as if that's something to be proud of.

The city upon which your wealth was built is in the crapper and you throw it under the bus. That's some "let them eat cake" shit right there.

  • Film was made prior to the 1964 Olympics, Kennedy was president

  • So sad - for all who think the race riots ruined Detroit - it's worth mentioning that Detroit is a casualty of the very American practice of Short-run legislation (immediate returns vs. sustainability). This legislative failure is only magnified by a city and region that put all their eggs in one basket: Automobiles.

  • The only way Detroit cane ever win an Olympics now, is if cities like London and Paris stop bidding. The IOC will always go with glamour when they can. Likewise, Atlanta wouldn't have won if these kinds of cities were in the running for 1996.

  • What a nice city! Make this the promo video for Detroit! Come to Detroit everyone! Where multiculturalism works! Come and see the burnt out buildings and the tacky Heidelberg Project bullshit - and get shot while you're at it for being white! What a Great time for all!

  • The Blitz by the Nazis killed 43,000 and it destroyed a million homes.

  • In 1940 and 1941 London sustained the worst casualties, 43,000 people and it destroyed over a million homes. London hosted the Summer Olympics only 7 years later. Logically, now, of course Detroit cannot host the Olympics, but I think with a better administration, the cleanup of our city, and an economic rennaissance , we can host the Olympics.

  • its sad to say detroit will never host the olympics, you can deny it and you can call me a pessimist, but logic speaks the truth.

  • The riots would have never happened if the Olympics were awarded to us. There were student riots in Mexico City (who beat us) just b4 they hosted, we need the Olympics!!

  • The riots happened in 1967, This film was in 1968. So the riots had already occoured. Probably, no one wanted to have the olympics in a city full of black savages.

  • No, this film was for the Olympic Committee for the '68 olympics. Note in the 2nd or 3rd part of the film, JFK is in the film saying that Detroit is the selection of the USOC. Your just another ignornant white savage, the worst of them all.

  • No, actually white, FROM the city. Black people didn't ruin the city, the white people that planned and then left the city did. Ruined stable black neighborhoods to build freeways. De facto segregation. Just because the blacks were poorer, doesn't mean they deserve the blame. You know nothing of what has happened.

  • Actually, the whites had been leaving since the 1950, look at the census records. The racist suburbanites cry, "Black people have ruined the city!" But have the suburbanites done for the city lately? Though there are plenty of good suburbanites that care for the city.

It will be people like you that ruin this country.

  • This was only part of the demise of Detroit. Stable neighborhoods were threatened by lowered Real Estate values brought on by the displacement of lower class elements moving into the stable neighborhoods. This caused a further push of Black Middle and Working Class further northwest. The new wave of lower income level was not contributing to the tax base. As this wave took over the city, its revenues diminished with the people who had supported the tax base left for Southfield and elsewhere.

  • @zbake11 In effect, what you're saying is despite several DECADES to recover from having been "segregated" from whitey, these poor unfortunate souls couldn't in fact improve their own lives without whitey?... Wow man, no wonder detroit is fucked. I mean if you are truly representative of the mindset, you're beyond any help us evil white folk could provide. right?

  • The cities vying to host the 1968 Olympics would have had to make their bid well in advance, a good few years I'm sure.

  • Err, the bid was for the 1968 Olympics. The bid happens many years before the Olympics takes place. This was made in the early 1960, well before the riots. In fact, historical analysts said that had Detroit won this bid, the riots may not have happened.

  • I remember the campaign for the 1968 Olympics from 1962.

  • Too bad the black riots cost Detroit the Olympics

  • The decision on those games was made in 1965, the riot occurred in 1967.

  • y in the hell we did not know about this this the best i ever seen
