I am looking to start carving wood. I have two questions for you. I want to start with pocket knives so is there a particular one you recomend because there seem to be millions out there. Also is there a basswood substitues i could use that i could possibly find locally at aparticular lowes store perhaps? Thanks for all your videos!
I have heard that they use bass wood a lot, but I don't have a woodcraft store in my town so i went down to Lowe's and found almost the same wood he is using. I bought the 3/4 x 3/4, in a three foot length for $2.40. I could not find it in bass wood so I bought the Poplar wood, and it carves the same as basswood. I don't know much about the different kinds of woods but give it a shot. I didn't have any trouble with Poplar. Hope it helps.
I am leaving this same comment on each part of the 5 minute wizard instructional videos. I enjoyed the videos finding each very instructional. My one suggestion is that you get the camera a lot closer to the work. We don't need to see your feet and legs. Would love to see the close up detail of the carving work
what kind of wood are you using? I'm in the process of making a ball in cage and I used basswood seemed to work alright. Also what kind of tools are you using. I got an Xacto kit but I don't feel like its very good because its EXTREMELY hard to carve with it.
Hey my friend did you get a chance to look at the newest pics of my carvings I have an eagle almost done I bought some cheap chisels. But man do they help. I miss chatting with you and still get tons of compliments on the little men you sent me.
Check me out on facebook (Clara Thompson Coller Myles )
I have added many new pics on dial up again so can't make any video's
