  • this song pokes fun at video dating, which was a trend back in the early 80's...

  • I think this is making fun of video dating or something. It's a joke about the future children seeing it and seeing how they were born.

  • Thats why this is faster than some other versions. it's to make it feel like people talking in a video like that...

  • That might also be why the seem to represent somewhat realistic types of people you can see.

  • Even the singing sounds like it's from normal people singing badly instead of a band.

  • out of sinc and probably out of key etc etc.

  • That or some other form of people meeting for dates...

  • Hi, I`m Simon. Cheese and Kate rock my world!

  • CINDY -CINDY-CINDY!!!!

  • Kate is just too beautiful....I think I stared at her for the entire 3:50....lol

  • Let's make a baby w/ Cindy.

  • It's too bad that they can never do this one in concert again.

  • totally, unless they get a volunteer to sub for ricky...

  • ricky is smooth in this video.. rip

  • Not heard this b52s song before. Sounds good.

  • For over three decades, the Soviet Union was developing electrocuteness and applying it to develop strange new secret cute and fun weapons of incredible power and capability. They sustained the largest fun development program ever launched by any nation, and they still kept it effectively hidden from prying western eyes.Stare at the american with yellow hair. Is there anything cuter than that?

  • isn't it called "song for a future generation"?

  • Did Fred say, "I like Jan's rolly-polly and rockin' Raj Kumar"? WTF?!?! Why doesn't Keith sing more, dammit?

  • Lol, he said "I like Jam Roly Polys and rocket rides to Mars". Although regarding Roly Polys, he could either mean food or being rolled in jam! LOL

  • Nauort23 i agree with you Keith should sing ALOT more.

  • Ah the good old days before lip syncing!

  • I love the B52s...except Fred Schneider. hes a goober.

  • I've been thinking the same thing for like, 30 years. I only like the songs where Cindy sings.

  • Ur getting THEME for a nude beach and song FOR A FUTURE GENERATION mixed up!

  • yeah, but this is the best quality I've seen for this video, so cut them some slack

  • They always make me smile!

I like to drink grape juice with club soda

and lots of ice and wear glitter eye-shadow!

  • Only one of the best things

to happen in pop music. Ever.

This should have been a top 10 hit.

    People suck.

  • Agreed.

But those of us, like you, that like to find the essence from within and rocket rides to mars - and chinese noodles - do not suck. We can find our own Top 10 from without.

  • That is sound advice.

  • it should have but people where to homophoic

  • it's not theme for a future generation it is SONG for a future generation....

    had to point it out....^^

this is my favorite song other than love shack and rock lobster..lol

  • lol. sounds like a 1950-60s science fiction story :-P

  • spot on!

the b-52's were the only band who carried the optimistic 50s mentality far into the 80s without being anachronistic

  • Interesting point of view. Along with their music they brought a new visual aesthetics for the 80's. The song "Legal Tender" was kind of New Wave Manifesto here in Brazil.

  • They all sound good together.I wounder what it would sound like if they sang it now....Too bad Ricky's dead,it probably would bring back memories to the band and it wouldn't sound the same.

  • WoW I didn't know Ricky has passed,

    thank you....

Now i will good cry. Probably another

victim of our " Holocaust "R.I.P. Ricky ..

    RS

  • This is such a fun, happy song.

  • Hi , i'm Patrick. I'm a Virgo from Slutman City. I like Talking with friends and playing guitar.

  • lol nice

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!

  • I know I love this song too. It was

    "Whammy" was the first B-52's

album I bought back in 1984, I was

in junior high school and that side one

was all I could play for ages.

  • side 1 is amazing, wish I could say the same for the rest of the album

  • hi, i'm skip rooney and i love to blast bolts of love from fartonia

  • i wanna be the funkiest president of fartonia

  • Never realized this before--aside from Kate (who's an earth sign), they're all water signs.

  • This is the only song of theirs where Ricky and Keith sing......wish they'd done more.

  • They sing background on a lot of tracks off "Bouncing off..", most notably "Ain't It A Shame".

  • It always makes me laugh when cindy forgets to do an about turn, you go girl!!

  • Yeah you hear her giggle too xD

  • Hi, I'm Ray and I like nude Scrabble and eggplant parmigiana!

  • Hi, im Olimar, I like pipe smoke and big horses

  • WANNA BE THE DAUGHTER OF DRACULAAA

  • are you SURE you got the title correct???

  • its called "Song for a future Generation" (I just looks at the cd....

  • Hi I'm mike and I love tiaras and Charlie's Angels

  • Fred: I like jam roly-poly,Kate: I like looking at curlews. Funny improvs cause they were in the UK.

  • funny video. it's a nice show.

  • I saw them Halloween night 1982 and this is exactly how they opened the show, song and all. Great concert, of course.

  • OMG, I saw an exact same show (later than 82), but they opened the show with this song, all 5 of them on stage with the music in playback. They did a can-can at the end of the song. It was a great show!!!

  • Ricky was so handsome...

  • GENIOS

  • what an incredible band

  • I literally cry whenever I see good footage of Ricky that I haven't seen before like this footage. RIP Ricky I love you.

  • Terrific video quality; where'd this come from?! I've got the official VHS releases and the included video for this song looks rather different... if there is a proper DVD release, I'll go out to get it yesterday...

  • This is like a tutorial for a pickup line destined to fail. You wanna be this, I wanna be that, let's meet and have a baby now

  • You dont get it. These lyrics, follow two ideas. One, introduce members to audience "Hi, Im Freddy etc".

The second idea, is saying their dreams and thoughts, when they were children. Or, children dreams "I wanna be catpain of strar treck " or whatever. Most kids say things like that.

  • 2- So, is like a "song for a future generation", when the b52s introduced thenselfs, and say most of kids dreams like a dedication to children of future generation.

    Hope I answered you.

How I know this ? Im a 52 fan, and a father and children activist (child custody, etc) see my channel for proofs and some activists actions

  • Putting this song in historical context, YES... we strived in the 80' s for such high minded ideals, and always will.. I hope that this new generation wil continue on such a similar path. I meam WOOOOW ( X p'i ) do we now. This " googler " generation will be one of the greatest since the ww2 generation.. Or so it seems to me. RS, ( the underground botanist ) smoke on..
  • Ltt's meet and have a baby now.

  • I love this song.

It's impossible for me to listen to this without a smile on my face.. :)

  • so much love to all the b52's but most of all to my most favorite and missed member, Ricky. :

i bought the first single when it was new. i have been a fan since the very start..

    oxoo tommy

  • This song ROCKS !!! All of "Bouncing of the Satellites " has such a bittersweet sound to it, it's almost completely overshadowed by Ricky Wilson's eminent passing from AIDS-related causes. Still, it's my favourite from them...

  • This one is from "whammy " Keep it up, and stay tune for the next generation. (children)

  • This song is from Whammy. Not Bouncing . .. dont know if you knew that.

  • I loved it!

    Thanks!

  • It doesn't get any better than this. Their best song as far as I'm concerned.

  • I wanted to see this one complete, thanks! I notice that at least Kate's voice in chorus seems to be live? the others are clearly playback.

  • surely anybody can tell that all vocals are live

  • so great! thanks you for posting! im seeing them tomorrow in CA!!! so excited.. my fave forever.. so happy cindy is back with the B-52s.. rip ricky wilson forever

  • One of my favourite B-52s songs (along with "Roam"); nice live presentation, which literally introduces each band member. Too bad guitarist Ricky Wilson died. But drummer Keith Strickland took over on guitar (MUST'VE been an influence on Dave Grohl). Look for a new CD in 2008; also check the website at TheB52s dot com.

  • I love Roam as well, and this comes a close 2nd.

  • Watch how Cindy screws up the dance.

  • This clip is from a Channel 4 (UK) Music show that followed The Tube - it was called Switch. They had some good acts on (like the B52s) but the show itself was nowehere near as dynamic as The Tube.

  • I have to be honest and say i was never a fan of the Tube other than there was nothing on the other THREE!channels.

The Set was nearly as bad as TOTP and the biggest stars of the stage were the cameramen.I would have liked Switch to have been given another series -no nonsense live music.

  • I loved The Tube, 99.9% because of the acts they had on (though when I bought the recent DVD, I realised what an awful lot of DROSS they had on too - well, it WAS the Eighties!) but also because I was a fan of Paula Yates (in a minority, I realise). I still have audio recordings of the Stranglers, Simple Minds (when they were good), Echo and the Bunnymen, the Gun Club, Linton Kwesi Johnson....some great stuff. Switch had some good guests on but seemed a little flat and dull in comparison.

  • Thank you for posting this video Parkhill62! I've never seen it before. =)~
