For over three decades, the Soviet Union was developing electrocuteness and applying it to develop strange new secret cute and fun weapons of incredible power and capability. They sustained the largest fun development program ever launched by any nation, and they still kept it effectively hidden from prying western eyes.Stare at the american with yellow hair. Is there anything cuter than that?
But those of us, like you, that like to find the essence from within and rocket rides to mars - and chinese noodles - do not suck. We can find our own Top 10 from without.
Interesting point of view. Along with their music they brought a new visual aesthetics for the 80's. The song "Legal Tender" was kind of New Wave Manifesto here in Brazil.
They all sound good together.I wounder what it would sound like if they sang it now....Too bad Ricky's dead,it probably would bring back memories to the band and it wouldn't sound the same.
OMG, I saw an exact same show (later than 82), but they opened the show with this song, all 5 of them on stage with the music in playback. They did a can-can at the end of the song. It was a great show!!!
Terrific video quality; where'd this come from?! I've got the official VHS releases and the included video for this song looks rather different... if there is a proper DVD release, I'll go out to get it yesterday...
You dont get it. These lyrics, follow two ideas. One, introduce members to audience "Hi, Im Freddy etc".
The second idea, is saying their dreams and thoughts, when they were children. Or, children dreams "I wanna be catpain of strar treck " or whatever. Most kids say things like that.
2- So, is like a "song for a future generation", when the b52s introduced thenselfs, and say most of kids dreams like a dedication to children of future generation.
Hope I answered you.
How I know this ? Im a 52 fan, and a father and children activist (child custody, etc) see my channel for proofs and some activists actions
Putting this song in historical context, YES... we strived in the 80' s for such high minded ideals, and always will.. I hope that this new generation wil continue on such a similar path. I meam WOOOOW ( X p'i ) do we now. This " googler " generation will be one of the greatest since the ww2 generation.. Or so it seems to me. RS, ( the underground botanist ) smoke on..
This song ROCKS !!! All of "Bouncing of the Satellites " has such a bittersweet sound to it, it's almost completely overshadowed by Ricky Wilson's eminent passing from AIDS-related causes. Still, it's my favourite from them...
so great! thanks you for posting! im seeing them tomorrow in CA!!! so excited.. my fave forever.. so happy cindy is back with the B-52s.. rip ricky wilson forever
One of my favourite B-52s songs (along with "Roam"); nice live presentation, which literally introduces each band member. Too bad guitarist Ricky Wilson died. But drummer Keith Strickland took over on guitar (MUST'VE been an influence on Dave Grohl). Look for a new CD in 2008; also check the website at TheB52s dot com.
This clip is from a Channel 4 (UK) Music show that followed The Tube - it was called Switch. They had some good acts on (like the B52s) but the show itself was nowehere near as dynamic as The Tube.
I have to be honest and say i was never a fan of the Tube other than there was nothing on the other THREE!channels.
The Set was nearly as bad as TOTP and the biggest stars of the stage were the cameramen.I would have liked Switch to have been given another series -no nonsense live music.
I loved The Tube, 99.9% because of the acts they had on (though when I bought the recent DVD, I realised what an awful lot of DROSS they had on too - well, it WAS the Eighties!) but also because I was a fan of Paula Yates (in a minority, I realise). I still have audio recordings of the Stranglers, Simple Minds (when they were good), Echo and the Bunnymen, the Gun Club, Linton Kwesi Johnson....some great stuff. Switch had some good guests on but seemed a little flat and dull in comparison.
I still have this on Betamax from when it was first aired on a UK music show called Switch. I saw Cindy messing up (1:45) when I recorded it and wondered whether it was deliberate.

this song pokes fun at video dating, which was a trend back in the early 80's...
texaho 1 year ago 3
I think this is making fun of video dating or something. It's a joke about the future children seeing it and seeing how they were born.
stuffandmisc 1 year ago
Thats why this is faster than some other versions. it's to make it feel like people talking in a video like that...
stuffandmisc 1 year ago
That might also be why the seem to represent somewhat realistic types of people you can see.
stuffandmisc 1 year ago
Even the singing sounds like it's from normal people singing badly instead of a band.
