20mm Vulcan practice ammo. The Vulcan barrel was turned down and adapted to the Lahti, so as to:
A. Provide "cheap ammo"
B. Not damage a collectible rifle by rechambering the gun
No mag is because the gas system was turned "off". We're hand cycling to avoid wear and tear. The mags need to be modded to fit and function with the Vulcan ammo, and it hadn't been done at the time of this video.
My friend reloads it. He buys Vulcan practice projectiles and brass and puts it in a modded reloading press (.50 BMG). I think once the brass is paid for, each round can be reloaded for something ridiculously low like $.40 per rd!
@pinktacoetr It's legal to own in most places in the US, but it's considered a Destructive Device by the BATF, requires a tax stamp, background check, and some other hoops to be jumped through if you want one. I've seen them for as little as $6K, though frequently they cost more; especially if complete, with accessories, and in working order. That said, the original round for these is difficult to find and very expensive, hence why this one was rechambered to fire a more common 20mm round.
@ThePitbullofLove thx for the info,so if hypothetically someone had a new one and wanted to sell it,you would have to get all the proper paperwork etc?.
The original rifle had a max range of around 7 miles. 0 accuracy at that distance, but it would reach out. the sights are calibrated to 1.600 mtr, and the rifle is accurate as can be, though would be better if it had optical sights like the Solothurn rifle .Problem is one needs to have a narrow head, or wide spaced eyes to use the sights properly, they are close to the receiver.
The L-39 was issued as a semi-auto, with a gas pressure adjuster on the end of the gas tube , under the barrel. this is sometimes stopped down to save wear on the reloadable cases. This rifle has had a barrel change, and perhaps the gas port was not drilled.
Watch where the shooters place their non firing hand, never place it where this guy is, the spent cases are ejected from the bottom, and can slam against the handguard. Place the non fire hand on the receiver, in front of the cheek piece.Even if the gas feed is turned down, it may eject a case anyway, and that will hurt.
recoil much?

In essence, the rifle is operating as a big bolt action, single shot.
While reloading the 20mm cases isn't overly expensive, not allowing the gun to operate in semi-auto saves wear and tear on the brass.
ThePitbullofLove 2 years ago
Is this capable of firing semi automatic, or can you only load in one round at a time?
