It does seem "a little" fast, but everyone has their own internal pace, and if he needs to play it that way to bring out the feeling, then he should. The entire performance was sensitive and enjoyable. I greatly appreciate Bach of any kind as long as it is sincere. I would like to hear more from this pianist.
A very satisfying fugue rendition. The pace is just about right, with nice separation between the parts. The stretto brings out the baroque features that are not always obvious. A very useful demonstration for a student of the fugue like me!
Mr. Mitsuru NAGAI was born in Osaka in 1934. He studied piano at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. After his graduation, he taught piano at the Musashino Academia Musicae for 33 years. In 1994, he ended his music career to dedicate his life to church activities. After silence of more than 30 years, he once again started playing the piano. The performance of the old piano man reveals the genuine aspect of each masterpiece. His performance and music comfort our souls.

What's up with the pedal use in the fugue?
pizzaboy456783 2 years ago
i may remember you: bach didn't have any pedal. so i guess it's better if he plays it without pedal use too.
