I was there for anything at the Norfolk Scope. In Starrcade 89 "True Grit" that is me with his faced paint each 1/2 like the Road Warriors wearing a blue World's Gym T-shirt.
The Vader - Flair match sucked!! Two extrememly opposed wrestling styles clashed...it looked HORRIBLE as far as Im concerened! Starrcade DIED when Turner took over. Although '88 was very good!
There,s other matches like Superstar Billy Grham vs Whaoo Mcdaniel, Whaoo vs Rick Rude indian strap match from 86 ( which wasn,t on the turner versionthat was released on vhs) loser leave town jimmy valiant vs paul jones (84 ) kabuki vs charlie brown (jimmy valiant in a mask from 83 ) i could go on and on if they wanna put out starrcade put out a complete box set of all the starrcade from 83 to 2000 i know it would be expensive but I,d probably buy it.
Me I wouldn,t buy it there,s not that much I,d wanna see I was at most of the true starrcades I missed 83 I was @ 84 ,85 ,86, @ Greensboro nc I watched 87 on tv FROM Chicago @ Greensboro (what a joke) to me after 86 there was no more starrcade it just became a name i was also at 92 and 93 (The one with vader and flair) there,s alot of matches at starrcade i,ve seen that are not on the dvd that you will probably never see who cares about hogan , goldberg , nwo ect.
Briscos vs Steamboat and Youngblood is on the most powerful familys in wrestling dvd. By the way i read that WWE are thinking of bringing out a best of war games and COTC DVD
Becouse I am not going to do an hour long video talking about what they GOT right and what they got wrong. I don't do indepth reviews becouse if its a good DVD the people should watch it for themselfs.
kid you don't know wrestling. and every match was good because it looked real and the moves are more better then today's wrestling. 2000 starrcade was not good because its just like today's wrestling boring and slow. and it was sting, piper, Ricky steamboat, road warriors, magnum TA and so on that made the DVD. not just Ric Flair. I Respect Ric Flair but in the DVD he didn't go crazy like like the other wrestler.
im just saying that the old starrcade match r u the shit. and that when TSlay1974 said that ric flair made the DVD it pissed me off. I don't hate ric fair I just feel that the road warrior, sting, rowdy piper should and other man should get the credit for making this dvd thats all. TSlay1974 said this DVD was not mind blowing. and as you a fan would u be insulted by this review.
Its not mindblowing there is to much crap on this DVD some of the stuff that is not can be seen on OTHER Better DVDs as well so no this is not a MUST get OTHER than the fact that THIS DVD has Flair vs Vader
Fine points by all. Again, my point was that they don't have to make him a centerpiece of anything, but yet not blatantly find ways to avoid him, to the point where its silly, and it doesnt help that Vince is such an awful history re-writer to begin with. I digress.
TSlay, do u know if New Japan followed suit and removed Benoit from their current dvds?
It's a good set, but my major gripes are: Entrances missing, documentary was too short(could've added 30 minutes more history), and, as usual, Chris Benoit ERASED FROM EXISTENCE. Ugh. They can't ignore his legacy forever, good or bad.
really that really sucks! Im about to buy it but if it's missing many entrances i'd think twice, I think its all part of the fun & i dont watch films without the intro's too. Does anybody know how frequent there is entrances missing? I think that depends on whether i buy it or not cheers!
Well, they don't have to flash a light on Benoit, but to make WCW best-of DVD's, and not include Benoit isn't fair to anyone. History is history. Do major league football, baseball, or basketball organizations put out DVD's, then take out the people that have done heinous things off field?
I don't really have any grips about missing entrances, I see it as cutting away the fat and giving us the meat - also it leaves more room on the disc for actually wrestling as opposed to posing.
I agree with you about TNA needing a best of 2008. .. As for the starcade dvd I someday got to check it out. I hope it teaches the fans who thought WCW was always crappy wasn't crappy in fact as they can learn about NWA as well. I have always disliked Mcmahon for making money off dead companies he laid in the dust but this is great.. WCW was awsome in the 90s. As was NWA in it's old days.
In all fairness, who wouldn't want to make money by using matches from dead companies on DVD if they had the chance? You don't think that had WCW beaten the WWF and they had the WWF's library along with the other companies, that they wouldn't do the same thing? Let's say that TNA puts WWE out of business (which won't happen) and they had access to the WWE library and the library of the other companies. You don't they would do it if they had the chance?
I agree. I can understand people hating that time in WCW but they did have great matches here and there as this stands up to them imo. But they did have good matches. Of course they had crap when and before it folded. But it did not fold because it was terrible. Turner was stupid with Money and had to sell it as he had to sell even the things that were doing great.
No mention of Jimmy Valient or Ron Garvin stuff nothing seriously on Rock and Roll Express, and other stuff i thought was needed miss some things butok dvd documentary could have been better.
The problem with that match was that Sting got built up so much going into it just to let Hogan dominate him for most of the match. Not to mention the ending...
The 4 tag teams from 89 Starrcade are Steiners, Road Warriors, Doom and Somoan Savage & Fatu. The four singles participants are Sting, Ric Flair, Lex Luger and Great Muta. I agree, not the most entertaining card - should have been drawn out across multiple shows.
Great review. I'd pick it up if I had the money to splurge, but I've got most of the matches already.
whats funny is that you gave the NWO chamber a 5star, which by the way is stupid.. and you give all those classic flair matches a 4 and a half, you must regret your NWO ratings lol at least one of those is 5 stars, stupid fucking annoying star system
My personal favorit Starrcade match was excluded. Barry Window vs. Bam Bam Bigelow; although the finish nearly ruined it. I guess I should have started the write-in campaign.
How about hi and welcome to (insert title of video) instead of just saying THIS. Screw you all for giving me a minus for that. Learn to speak correctly tslay
I'm glad that Mysterio vs. Liger made it onto the DVD, but was disappointed that Ultimo Dragon vs. Malenko from that same year didn't. The series of matches those guys had were incredible.
Ric Flair vs Vader nice match indeed, but if you ask me ..Tully vs Magnum the best ..i quit match ever IMO.11/28/1985 Dusty Rhodes vs. Ric Flair, believe It or not.. come to find out later on down the line.. that the Referee made a controversial decision, just when i thought Dusty won the title clean, too bad for out side Interference the title went back to Ric as DQ,but Dusty still had the victory.
i gave this dvd 10/10 as its a superb set even with the poor matches. WWE are sat on a goldmine with their wcw/nwa ecw tape libaries and not only wrestling historians will buy it but newer fans who want to see what this great sport is built on will as well> The top 3 matches are sooooooooooo good and its amazing tht the match isnt on the Flair dvd! could have done without goldberg/nash & hogan/sting match though! Great review dude

Seriously, what the fuck are you on about??
Did you even watch Starrcade 2000's match on the DVD?
We're talking about Jung Dragons- Noble + Karagias- 3Count.
That was the most energetic contest in the entire compliation...
The older matches are clearly more psychologically-orientated.
See Briscoes vs. Steamboat- Youngblood. GREAT match, but much slower in comparison to more modern wrestling...
