Each season of this show was brilliant and it's extremely hard to say which one is better than the other. But, I definitely think 4 stands out as not only the best season of the Wire but the greatest season of any series or show ever.
@DonFuego1 Sopranos is for casuals; The Wire is where men and boys are separated. I don't see any universities offering courses on The Sopranos, or calling it one of the best published studies on systematic urban inequality. Source: slate.com/id/2245788/
@qpalqlap Actually bro, there's been at least a few studies (literature or something) on the Sopranos. I actually have a really good sociology book that uses the Sopranos as a theme/gimmick ('Tony Soprano's America', and it's not the usual "pop-sociology" you'd expect; seriously, it's a decent book in the tradition of 'A People's History'). The Wire and The Sopranos are apples and oranges. One's a fiction-journalism. The other's just a parable about a dysfunctional suburban family unit.
PPL GIVE SEASON 2 ANOTHER CHANCE ITS SO POWERFUL. I ONCE WATCHED THE FIRST EP OF IT AND DIDNT WANT TO WATCH ANY MORE...WELL I SKIPPED TO EP 6 OR SO...LOVED IT AND WAS HOOKED..WENT N WATCHED EP 3,4,5 then THE LAST EPISODES??? OMG THE LAST 3 EPISODES OF SEASON 2 ARE MY FAV FROM THE WHOLE SHOW
the greatest tv series ever made, period. easily better than the sopranos, even though season 2 and 5 were kinda weak compared to the others, they were still great.
@kingtutt661 its a lot better than the sopranos. you just have to have the intellect and patience to watch and appreciate the show as a whole. i'm sure you haven't seen the whole series. YOU'RE buggin.
@eastie88 I honestly don't understand why everyone thinks season 5 was weak. I thought it was great! all the stuff with omar and the fake serial killer. I think everyone was just pissed about omar dying and marlo still breathing at the end.
5 was a little weak; disagree with you about 2 though, it was a very important season to highlight the plight of the working class in a decaying industrial-age. Don't want to sound all pretentious about it, but we all know The Wire went beyond being a 'tv show' - it was a damning social commentary, and Season 2's content is essential for that story. Thought it was an excellent season myself, but then I come from a dead industrial town (in the UK) where many turn to crime.
@KingOfTheShrews i'm with you bro. season 2 was actually my favorite and really showed how corrupt our whole system is. all that work they did to take down the greek and 1 phone call from an fbi insider destroyed everything. it just told us all that it's not what you know it's who you know. season 2 was my favorite.....plus im from the uk too...lol.
Season four, while not my favorite, is the best season any show could put out. I just rewatched it for like the fifth time and it stands up. Brilliant tv.
Ironic cause it's my least favourite! I mean it's still brilliant, just IMO it's slightly less brilliant than the others.
Like someone saying "hey you're not Billie Holiday, but you are Aretha!" (forgive me, probably not the best example but I'm in a departure lounge, been up for 31 hours and counting...
does ne1 know were i can rewatch all seasons of the wire all the site i knwk that ad em r gone or missing the links if u know were epecily the last seasons plz message me
Alternatively, if you don't wont to download a BT. You can go WatchTvSitcoms website. It's has every episode season 1-5. That's where i watched the entire series! God i love this show.
Most intense and emotional TV show i've ever watched...I cried at the end of the 12th episode... That season was by FAR the best and my personal favorite.
Did ya know that the character "Omar" was inpired by a real life stick up kid? & guess what, he is in that scene, the darker of the two men who came to protect omar is the real life man who the creators got the caracter "omar" inspired
the mean looking mutha who hands Omar the phone is the 'real' Omar, according to Michael K Williams on a radio interview on YT at least... I always thought he looked a bit too mean to be from central casting...
Put simply this is the best tv show ever made, you can try and download this song, its by domaje(at least thats what they call themselves) and its on the beyond hamsterdam soundtrack, quite right for showing the bit at the start, omar rules his world
The wire is the best show on earth, seriously, i cant think of any other TV show which caught my attention and shifted the way i think about our world as much as this Show. I'm from the bay area where we deal with lots of Urban Violence but this still opened my eyes to alot of things. WOW is all i can say about every season, f**cking fantastic TV.
Yeah, as evidenced by the video, I guess I had to. I do like the whole intro - and the way the prison horn/alarm leads into the opening track. "...Man owe me a favor" - priceless. Cheers. :\
I LOVE THIS VERSION. The Wire was the best show ever to appear on our TVs. I am English and I fucking love it. This program might just have made America the best country in my eyes. (Apart from England ((LOL)) )
No doubt this is the best opening song of the series, and I am a Steve Earl fan. He just didn't have it for this song. This is also the best video montage. Love the circles and wheels. Everything comes back, like a great circle, is one of the themes of the show. The kids at the end makes me sad, like our society will fail those kids in the end.
Them kids are failed by those who breed them...don't put that on society...if you can't make em right don't make them at all...Come on dude, you oughta know that
The best season of this show ever! Also the best version of this song! Does anyone know who sings it? I always thought it was India.Arie...my hubby says no...
This version is by DoMaJe, which is somehow some offshoot of the Baltimore Boy's Choir. I found an mp3 of it online. I also think it's available on a Wire soundtrack.
I agree. I didn't need to see the newspaper ish , really. It speaks to how well the kids did in S4 that I was far more interested in them and how things went (and obviously cops and 'the street') than anything in the political or media game. I just think they stretched big time to live out David Simon's vendettas from being in the paper biz.
I LOVE DIS SONG and I love my City...BMORE baby even though it has its problems and can be raggedy and ghetto, Baltimore is still a beautiful city and i love it....
this id the best version no doubt
