@78rrum78 ha ha, cell phones werent really out at that time lol, plus, all they did was make phone calls. That is funny. Really though, I have a friend from Montana that was at that show and he gave me a video cassette copy of it to me to watch in like '93 or '94. I doubt that it exsist on DVD unless someone like this person ripped it to digital. If you notice there is a little ripple at the bottom of the screen and a slight warble in the audio track. That is more than likely from vhs
@trumpt2 - Actually, just FYI, AIC get VERY pissy when you describe their music as grunge. They hate that. Jerry Cantrell sounds off on it all the time...
How can one recover from this? This is it, the real deal, MUSIC with a capital midfinger pointed skywards... I've known this song for 21 years now, and every time, every single effing time, it strikes that deeply buried inner chord that no one else can strike and leaves me shaking with primal emotions... Forever grateful.
@MiredAlien yep.... live, studio,... or even, sometimes, someone's shitty 'cover'.....
Forever grateful. This song, and so many others on Facelift & Dirt.... will forever strike the same 'chords' within me, as well.
The first time he.... "YEAAAAHHHHHH....!!!! LOVE, HATE...."s (about 5:24.... and THANK YOU, JERRY TOO!!!!), sends the same chills down my spine it did 20+ years ago.
Just awesome... and timeless to me in every way.
Man... he SO nailed the vocals this night. RIP, Layne.
Jerry was and will always be the band. Layne was a guy that had one of the best voices ever in rock and roll and fucking squandered it. Ya he was the front man but, Jerry is always the guy who fuckn made and still makes it work. Hail Alice!
@Brided23 I'm sorry but that band would never have done anything good without Layne. He did squander his talent because of a drug problem.. but Jerry was not , is not and will never be the band..... The original line up was the best.. I won't even listen to Jerry's solo stuff or to the new AIC. I refuse... and you are out of your mind if you think Layne wasn't the band.. ANY musician can play a guitar the way jerry did.. his vocals were ok.. but Layne was it!
and furthermore, the new AIC is no better than any other bullshit, alternative band on the radio.. When Layne was with them it was original, amazing and beautiful. Now, they are just radio friendly hacks and a disgrace to what the band used to be..
This is beyond perfect. I listen to AIC, Nirvana, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Pearl Jam, Pantera, and so on, and I can easily say, this is the most awesome song ever made.
"lost inside my sick head..." how can you not love that? These fucking sobriety test to post a goddamn comment is the lamest shit fuck! What happened to freedom of speech!! We have to be tested to speak now! Fucking stupid!
@philspear24 I got a demo of Man in the box a few months before Facelift was originally released back in the day, I have since that day loved this band with all of my musical soul.. until Layne was out and then so was I. But for the stuff with Layne, I will always love it... I'm with ya! :)
This song isn't for everyone.I sent it to many people.Their reaction was something like ,,You are crazy.'' My answer was:''You must to have brain and emotions to feel this song.''
On the 121 dislikes, I would like to hear 1 comment on how the fuk u could dislike this song. Its not possible.Im willing to listen with an open mind, cauz I would really like to no.Are your ears not hearing wat mine are. This is incredible even after the 20 years ive been listening to it.When is Jerry gonna relese this on DVD.
Seriously, the best voice ever. He had the best voice control I've ever seen. It's sad we don't have anyone like him around today. I still think it's funny that he started out a drummer then decided to switch to a vocalist. Thank god he make that decision or we would have never heard that epic voice of his.
@hoodmatix I also think It's funny that he's the youngest in the group and when they played bars (he was under 21) he had to stay outside until the band went on.
this must be the best live performance by any band EVER after seeing this so many times i still asking myself how is it even possibly for somebody to be that good nobody will ever touch rip layne staley
SO beautiful....the song as well as Layne Staley. This is definitely one of the best songs ever! This era is Layne at his most powerful and beautiful!
Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time I hear this song. Layne has always been my favorite singer, because there was so much emotion in his voice. RIP Layne Thomas Staley (August 22, 1967 – April 5, 2002) miss his music!!
just stop with the jews saying rape a retard or catholics are gonna take turns on you... I mean fuck you I go 5 years single before I find a girl for a year. leave mollesting neck brace jews raping retards silent.
I had this live version on the B-side of an AIC single. In my opinion, this is the best live version of any song ever recorded. Layne's vocals are so strong, it's unreal. It's as if he's not even trying to hit the high notes. He just does it perfectly. Effortlessly. He was born to sing these songs.
It still amazes me all these years later how someone's voice can go from such a haunting soft sound to such a powerful cry to the heavens. Truly awesome.
@ba773r1na in my opinion, he was the best vocalist ever, his voice was so diverse & had so much range, unlike anyone else i've ever heard in my entire life.
@Perniciousdeeds You're so right. His voice was just unbelievable. It was hoarse and gentle at the same time. Τhe timbre he had was awesome and together with the range, as you said, it was all insane. I haven't heard anyone else sing like that, too. But also the lyrics in this song are, in my onpinion the second best I ever heard (after 'Hey You' by Pink Floyd). No to mention Man In The Box, Angry Chair etc. Talking about tons of talent.
@Perniciousdeeds Saying he was the best vocalist ever is pretty crazy but he was so awesome there is no reason to even compare him to others. That kind of badassness deserves to be respected and not even challenged. BTW, Cornell has a slightly better rock voice and scream. Never ignore Dickinson either.
@blainecowling Cornell was a tenor. His voice was naturally higher. Layne was a baritone. So I guess Cornell does have a better scream, but it's not neccesarily because he was a better vocalist.....either way no need to compare....like you said, their both bad ass.
@blainecowling its not crazy, its my opinion, & Staley's voice had way more range than Cornell's & thats not an opinion, thats a fact. Cornell is great though.
@vasilisgrg It is from a VHS released in 1991 called LIVE FACELIFT. It has 5 tracks--Man in the Box, Real Thing, Love Hate Love, Sea of Sorrow and Bleed the Freak, plus videos for We Die Young, Man in the Box, and Sea of Sorrow.
I was fortunate enough to see them twice with Layne. Such a waste of talent. He is and always will be the alice in chains vocalist. Despite them being my fave band of all time, i have to admit they are better in the studio.

@zamoram23 i'm so sorry to inform you but most grunge has now been replaced by shitty post-grunge aswell as all that mainstream shit being spewed out of the asses of emotionless "artists" that are hyped up by the mainstream media. i weep for the world.
Basque people are the original europeans,we gave rise to white people and languages are made-up out of basque oh and history called the irish scots and welsh as "celts" but originally they were basque people and the genes prove it...you people are gonna know who we are oh hell yea you will...ill see to it and the underappreciated basques will be appreciated and admired for what we did for humanity...you bunch of ungrateful and jealous people...the Basques have Jesus bloodline!!!!!!
Im making a hard choice, this or Rain when I die for my Funeral. Either way the greatest singer of all time will be there in more then one way. The greatest band of all time without a doubt. I went to 9 concerts and will never see them again the way I did then. "If not for the music then there would never be happiness in the world". So take that you Amish Fucks!!!
@bloodydjole Im saying there would be no Alice In Chains because there the only 2 origional band members left and then we are left with ands like A7x.
this band was sososo underrated. everyone had such a hardon for guns n roses that they completely ignored the fact that Layne was such a superior vocalist and Jerry's guitar work was so ridiculously perfect. Not to mention that he is an excellent singer too. The harmonies and the darkness just fill you up. Love this shit sooooo much. Probably my fave AIC song of all time. When i die i want to sing a duet with him.
@larahill82 this song is awsome.i will admit i listen to more rap then anything but i still love this song and most of my friends hate it becuase it is so dark and depressing but it seems to fill this spot in me and tells a story that i wouldnt be able to tell by myself,i litened to this song when me and my girl broke up i was with her for 5 years and still loved her when i found out she cheated on me ya thats sum bitch shit on my part but it makes me feel good his voice and emotion is unreal
Layne, Hoon, both Buckleys, Kurt... all dead... At least there's Lanegan and Cantrell left, so music is not quite dead yet :)

@tigerone1970 It doesn't really relate to my comment, but yeah. Nice song.
Also, my comment had correct grammar, no need to change it. :P

@thundara32
I wasn't trying to correct your grammar, the question mark is just some extra fomatting my aging browser put in. :)
If I would rank the best grunge singers/performances, this would be #2, and Slaves And Bulldozers would be #1.

@zamoram23 i'm so sorry to inform you but most grunge has now been replaced by shitty post-grunge aswell as all that mainstream shit being spewed out of the asses of emotionless "artists" that are hyped up by the mainstream media. i weep for the world.

Basque people are the original europeans,we gave rise to white people and languages are made-up out of basque oh and history called the irish scots and welsh as "celts" but originally they were basque people and the genes prove it...you people are gonna know who we are oh hell yea you will...ill see to it and the underappreciated basques will be appreciated and admired for what we did for humanity...you bunch of ungrateful and jealous people...the Basques have Jesus bloodline!!!!!!

przemi95 1 month ago 21
Im making a hard choice, this or Rain when I die for my Funeral. Either way the greatest singer of all time will be there in more then one way. The greatest band of all time without a doubt. I went to 9 concerts and will never see them again the way I did then. "If not for the music then there would never be happiness in the world". So take that you Amish Fucks!!!

@TheDivNiv That is what you think, pathetic dumbfuck. Go play the guitar or something.
bloodydjole 1 month ago
@bloodydjole Im saying there would be no Alice In Chains because there the only 2 origional band members left and then we are left with ands like A7x.
A7x=Shit
TheDivNiv 1 month ago
@TheDivNiv And I'm saying that you can't see anything from AIC (and A7x). Go make your own music, maybe it can be better than AIC.

this band was sososo underrated. everyone had such a hardon for guns n roses that they completely ignored the fact that Layne was such a superior vocalist and Jerry's guitar work was so ridiculously perfect. Not to mention that he is an excellent singer too. The harmonies and the darkness just fill you up. Love this shit sooooo much. Probably my fave AIC song of all time. When i die i want to sing a duet with him.

@larahill82 this song is awsome.i will admit i listen to more rap then anything but i still love this song and most of my friends hate it becuase it is so dark and depressing but it seems to fill this spot in me and tells a story that i wouldnt be able to tell by myself,i litened to this song when me and my girl broke up i was with her for 5 years and still loved her when i found out she cheated on me ya thats sum bitch shit on my part but it makes me feel good his voice and emotion is unreal
mikesandytoes 1 month ago
@larahill82 I love any performance where Layne belts out the vocals, this is a great example.

Imagine is we still had Layne healthy and singing. AIC would be the equivalent of Led Zeppelin.
