  • love it , i look forward to becoming one , for all the right reasons .....ota then ot , here i come

  • When was this video made?! Im not sure something this old and now redundant should still be on YouTube. For one the OT lifts a patient on his own when he shouldnt be lifting at all! also the exercises are physio based, and seem irrelevant to actual application, if they are trying to achieve muscular strength, surely something more interesting or applicable would be more beneficial and recieve higher engagement and increased therapeutic success?

  • 1:05 that comp is a joke!

  • How difficult is the OTA program after you finish the Anatomy, math, ect.... I already have a bachelors degree. I've had one medical class (medical terminology). I earned a B....I am anxious about the level of difficulty the actual OTA progam is...??

  • I should look into this career.

  • I'm a second year student of occupational therapy! I wish, that one day I could work with children and help them! :)

  • elo friends, i',m a second year ot. I must say that i've seen GOOD ots doing wonderful things where they enable people considered as "lost cases" to get back to LIFE and even saving a person from undergoing surgery. Its just that u have to be good.

  • In reply to Adams post...I am an occupational therapist who specialises in mental health, it is sad to think that you believe Adam that we do not know where to begin in helping our clients with their mental health, however, I do have an an annual file which gets filled every year with letters of thanks from clients who have bi-polar affective disorder, schizophrenia and reactive depression saying I have helped them, so I must be doing something right.

  • @owenfe I'm a student interested in becoming an o.t. I'm also interested in pysc, much like the everyone else. Improving the lives of those who suffer from mental illness throught occupational therapy seems like the perfect career for me. I'm just curious as what you need education wise, and personality wise for your career. I appreciate any adivse you could give me.

  • @coldfirevideo i obtained a job with an acute psychiatric unit as an occupational therapy technician, and then the nhs paid for me to do a 4 year in service degree at Brunel University in London. This route for me was perfect as I was able to learn the theory whilst practising. As I was a mature student all I had to do was a 1000 word essay on the difference between physical ot and mental health ot.

  • @owenfe

Keep convincing yourself that these so called 'coping skills' courses for idiots you run actually help anyone. Please answer this;If you have never had a problem how are you going to help someone that has.I suppose you Mental Health workers believe that you know someones mind better than they do?

You know very well that the field of mental health is all about playing guessing games, and the evidence proves that it has not progressed since the 1950's

  • and that you have no answers to any so called 'mental illness'.That is why these Psychiatrists walk around like weirdos

  • @AdamAdidas909 actually Adam, you are making assumptions that OT's in mental health have not experience problems in their own mental health. How do you know that any of us have not experienced a problem? I have been on this planet for 50 years and I can honestly say that I have had more experience of what life has to throw at you and therefore that helps me empathise with a lot of problems my clients go through. mental health is a grey area, but at least we are trying to help!

  • @shiftingtrout12

Do you agree that the fundamentals of mental health care need to be addressed

first in order to go from "trying to help" someone into ACTUALLY helping them.

For example here is where it all goes wrong

Your GP refers you to a Psych ,after 15 minutes you come out with half a dozen labels and a couple packs of mind altering drugs without actually getting to the cause of the problem.

Then you get sent to an OT or Psychologist on some VERY general course

  • (with various other people with DIFFERENT problems)

and doesn't even begin to scrape the surface of your own problem.

You just get sent round in circles then.

Luckily after 4 years out-patient I dragged myself away realising it's been no help whatsoever.I didn't want to spend my life being drugged up to the eyeballs and being told a load of bullcrap by people who claim to be experts on the subject

  • @AdamAdidas909 i hate crazy people you should be executed

  • @frewcc

fuck you and your prostitute mother.Thank you for your contribution

  • @AdamAdidas909

you things are disgusting, if you dont have a working brain youre not even human! even dogs can behave normally, youre just a psycho and a worthless pile of meat. you need stay away from normal people and go drown yourself before you molest your neighbors cat or something!!

  • @frewcc

You need to educate yourself about mental health.Actually more crimes are commited by so called "normal" people.I'm not crazy,i have an Anxiety disorder and a Bsc in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and can run a 5 minute mile and many other things.

    What can you do?

  • @AdamAdidas909 yeah im sure thats what the pink flamingo in your yard told you also you are the president of the united states huh?? you stupid psycho! i wish your kind would just go away and leave the normal people alone at the bus stops and shit, we dont have any change for you! lazy doctors release you filthy animals into the streets because they cant afford keeping mental retards and then you dogs end up homeless and molesting our pets! kill yourself for the good of humanity

  • @frewcc

Ok CUNT,you are clearly not worth the effort.

You're probably some 500lb self hating piece of shit for all I know.

  • @AdamAdidas909 just ask the pink man in your head you stupid psycho! i dont need to waste my time talking to someone who is MENTAL and just admitted they are off their meds!!! ugh just talking you is gross go back to talking to your dolls in your alley stay away from us we don't wanna catch your disease you dirty chimp

  • @frewcc

You're bullshit is boring me now.Yeah think about it.if you were someone of any significance you wouldn't be posting shit on the internet and you were in the UK I would come and fucking hunt you down

Go and take your obese American arse back on the Jerry Springer show where you belong

You cunts have already fucked up the world economy enough.

  • @AdamAdidas909 youre a mental!! youd get lost and distracted by a giant talking pig and stuff! you dont even know what an economy is stop trying to use big words you dont understand just cuz your psycho doesnt mean you can be rude dont u know?? take off your tin foil and open your hart to jesus

  • @owenfe if you don't mind me asking, what was the degree you had to obtain to become a ot?

  • @xxxsssxxxsss a degree in Occupational Therapy which gives you a bachelor of science and mine was with honours. at Brunel university in London.,

  • @shiftingtrout12 how come some places say you need a masters degree? also, how much can u expect to make out of college with a bachelors?

  • @b0ondockz if you are in the states then I believe you do need a masters degree, but here in the UK you do not. A masters comes later if you wish. Average pay for a band 5 in this country is not a lot of money at all, I think it starts around 21 thousand pounds....but of course we dont do the job for the money really!

  • @owenfe Hey could you tell me more about being an occupational therapist. How do you like it? Can you start working as one with a bachelors or do you have to wait until you have a masters?

  • Who the heck are you, some know it all student I suppose.Get back to me when you have left school and are qualifed enough to realise the Mental Health system sux from Psychiatry downwards

  • Left school 5 years ago actually. Not saying the mental heath system is great but don't think OTs are the one's to blame.

  • I've been to doctors before who haven't known where to begin when diagnosing or treating me... think we should get rid of all doctors as well? The fact that you refer to them as 'these people' demonstrates how little you know about the profession and is probably good reason for you not to make such a negative comment. OTs do not 'treat' mental illness by the way. I suggest you look into what the profession is and what they do.

  • im a student OT. im interested in a more hands on career pathway.. would mental health or someting more like out patients be suited??? i dont know. i cant deal with gruesome things :(

  • this is what im studyinggg!! haha and im loving the idea of being one every day.. cant wait to graduate and do this

  • No transfer belt (:40-:45). There is more analysis and adjustment than meets the eyes with 'skilled OT', so I hold my judgment on the use of cones unless I have talked to the therapist as to why cones are being used, or reviewed the documentation. As for the lab coat, I agree that it's silly (but sometimes required by the non-therapist owner who has not a clue) and that whenever someone approaches ME with one on, I expect pain or some sort of bad news!

  • im an OT student in The National University of Malaysia..n this vid is owesome!

  • I wouldnt say that cones are bad but there are definitely better interventions to use. They are still using cones as a main intervention in some parts of the world for OT. That being said, this is a good video to help people get a better understanding of OT.

  • WTF's up with the lab coat!?

  • speaking shits is very easy firstly understand the use of lab coat.

  • Very good job...!!!

  • are yu an OT`??? :)

  • HI! I am an OTR and I appreciate the informational video!

  • @987hooch Do you like your job?? I'm thinking about it.

  • cones are bad!!!

  • cones are a good adjunct to more purposeful activities. as a stand alone activity, cones are bad

  • @sarasuerenee : Task analysis!!!

think why they use the cone?

how many muscle groups are involved?

how does the sitting balance affected or tested when moving cones from one side to another??

    open your minds!!! :-)

  • im actually thinking about becoming one of these. thanx for the info.

  • nice
