  • Its like they went out to any ole dump and picked out a good for nothing rusty old heap. This had to be the biggest hick town bloopers of all time!

    I mean really!

Its like they dug up a dead rotten corpse from the city graveyard, dressed it up and pranced it around as if it were in a beauty pageant.

    OOOH the humanity!

And then they tried to play it off like "Look! SEE... its alright...its fine..yeah..heh..fine"

    MMMMaaaaahahahahahaha

  • ????HYPE???Hey i have a turd in my toilet that has'nt been flushed away for 2 hours - come buy tickets for the great flush - you dont get what im trying to say do you?

  • suck a nut bitch

  • hit #30,000 nice Boyd Coddington has died btw RIP

  • I just get amazed of how people just care about "perfect things", not recognizing the value of things like this rusted 1957 time savior.

The car has been under water for half a century and on contrary of other cars that after 10 years taking daily rains are falling apart, this one is still one piece. Plus, with air on 3 of the 4 tires.

It's history, it's a hero. It's a true evidence of America's golden days. Shame capsule wasn't well engineered.

  • fudeu!!!!!!!

  • looks like a case for chip foose and the crew at overhaulin!!

  • somebody call xzibit :)

    it'll even look worse XD

  • The good people of 1957 met the objective, they provide Tulsa with means for a party to celebrate the states centennial. And what a party it was.

Most don't get it they still think it was all about the car.

  • do you know how the water got into the vault? do you think it was a hairline crack and the movement over the years from nearby traffic that caused water to get into it? thanks

  • It's interesting, I haven't seen any direct analysis of how the water got in there. I can only imagine the cement cracked over the years, and even if not, who knows how (if?) they sealed between and around the three sections of the top of the tomb (I'm calling it a tomb from now on). This was just dumb, I can't help but feel angry at those idiots in '57, especially after looking at some of the historical shots of the car before it went in.

  • well, at least they tried! you never know how something will hold up over time.

  • Yeah, I just think they could have tried harder. I'm sure better technology was available for a proper preservation chamber. It was the late '50s, not the middle ages. Said chamber may well have cost more than the car itself, but I feel you either do something right or don't do it at all. Oh well, it is what it is.

  • This whole story is a complete and total dud. Car looks like crap, looks like it was buried in the MUD for 50 years, it's a basket case. And you have to watch all of the other videos which never even show the crappy car underneath - even on CNN!

  • Good comment by the mayor "this shows the perserverance of the people of Tulsa." Well, what are you gonna say about something like this? I guess there's not much better to do there.

  • Does anyone know the song name at the beginning of this video?

  • You can sugar coat it all you want, but I'll call it a "symbol of perseverance" when a 100 point restoration is commissioned by the City of Tulsa and completed. Right now, all I see is a horror show with some potential. Regardless of what happens with the car, it's a failure on the part of those who engineered this project back in '57. The car was supposed to emerge in "like new" condition, it couldn't be much further from that.

  • No kidding!

A little wax or something to protect it. It looks horrid. :(

  • El diseño de la boveda se la encargaron a los diseñadores del Transantiago...como tan pasteles??...como no preveer el ingreso de agua?

    que pena

  • keep it as it is fuck people wait a month without cleaning it the fucking flors will rust out i mean i love that car i want to see it restored like it was in its prime idots

  • You right I saw a photo from the dealership its at. There is a hole/crack forming below the trunk lid. If they dont do something soon its going to rust really fast now that its in the air. So sad such a waste,it cool that other stuff came out good. I would kill to have a car like this is good condishion.

  • I just hope that prick Boyd fuckin' Codington dosen't get his hands on it. Cos He's a right twat ! Jarrod

  • Glad I'm not the only one that thinks Boyd is a tool. And why is it that whenever his guys first start an engine the first thing it does is puke one or more of it's vital fluids? I can understand once in a while during a build someone might forget to tighten a clamp, maybe seal something incorrectly, but with them it's like EVERY time. Yeah, have Boyd restore the Belvedere. He'll sic his monkeys right on it.

  • Yep, He's a cock ! I know (and i'm sure you do to !) people who build better cars in sheds in the garden than he can with trained (professionals) [what a joke] Cars should be driven. Jarrod

  • I would rather see the car rust to nothing before I would see Boyd turn it into some freaky jacked up hotrod thing. The stuff he makes doesnt even look like what it came from.Boyds work is so ugly and untrue to the way it was ment to look

  • Dude, you lot need to chill out ! Thats a Bitchin shell with patina, and meaning. i say slot a 429 ford in there and spend a weekend freeing and re servicing the brakes and you've got a rat rod ! Rust is not a crime. Jarrod

  • They should clean it up a little and keep it "as is" in a museum somewhere for everyone to see and appreciate a 50 year old land yacht that survived under water.

  • Well, the time capsule builders of 1957 gave it their best shot! Perhaps the protective bag wouldn't have torn if they had placed some sore of fiberglass bridge between the tailfins.

  • it is a playmouth not a chevy

  • Are you guys idiots? You guys have no sense of humour, because if you did, you would quickly realise that I am sick and tired of seeing 57 Chevys and I also agree they are by no means rare! Mr. Packed Fudge Stop being a hypocrite! You sit here playing comment police man yet you say I need to grow up. You dont even know what a punk is. If you dont want to swallow your pride and keep your mouth shut you have as much growing up to do as I do then!

  • 50 freaken years! people from all over the world flew in to see this. People paid big bucks just to have a seat in the stadium. World wide coverage! Mega pre-production light camera and action!. Now here it is ladies and gentlemen! A 50 year old pile of rusty ole 57 chevey that you can see at any ole dump.... Gotcha! and thaks for your money...now get the hell outta here!

  • haUAHuHAuhauUAhuHAuhAUhUHuAHuhAUUHAuHAuhUAhUAHuAHuHAuahuHAuHuahuHAuAHUHAUHaUHauHuhaHauHauHuaAHuhaUAUhUHAUhAUuAhuAhuAHuahuHauAHuAHuHAuHAuHUahUhuHauHAuHauAHuHAuAHuAHuaHuAHuhauAHuAHuAHuAHuAHuAHuhauAHuahuauHuUhuAHuahuHauHAuAHuAHuAHuAHuHAuAHuAhuAhuahUhuahUAhUAhuHauhUhuAHuAhUAHu........

  • It's amazing to me that those masterminds in the 50's didn't take more precautions when designing the underground container "Car Tomb" as to keeping moisture from getting inside, that car looks as bad as if it were sitting on a car lot covered with a tarp for 50 years exposed to all the weather elements. An absolute waste of 50 years what a shame.

  • Can't say I'm surprised it turned out, somewhat, a fiasco. At the same time I was hoping for the opposite.

I guess I'm not the only one who made a time-capsule as a child?

Maybe, next time, Swedish engineers could be considered as advisors? ;-)

  • wat is this go fine some thing better to do wit your time

  • What they should do is take some pictures and put it back in the hole it came out of, Erect a Tomb stone with the following "Here lies Mrs. Belvedere, The entire population of promises we will never do that again."

  • I agree with okpgrider. It was 50 year old technology. I hope Tulsa will restore it.

  • ok this is sad

  • Damn right - how many man hours and money was put into this waste of time? I've never seen anything like it.

  • Actually, I'm not meaning to be rude about this (in light of my last comment), but I never realised this kind of thing/interest existed. Still though...

  • it brings back good memories to people --even if it was all rusty! that was a good thing in my opinion.hope the time capsule in my hometown underground and above will be oka ywhen they are opebned!

  • we can always try and see the bright side of this....but its still something that looks worse than what you would find in a scrapyard

  • I thought the whole point of this was to end up with a mint condition '57 as it was from the factory. This is sad. What a waist of a classic.

  • The aim was a car in mint condition.. and now they got a 50 year old rustbucket with low milage...

  • Anyone slamming Okies for this is probably a Communist Liberal. The gunnite concrete vault was state of the art in waterproof construction in the 50's. All the technology used in the preservation of the car was. Remember, this was the 50's you morons. It's not the condition of the car that matters. It's the spirit of community....A-holes....

  • EVERYONE is a 'Communist Liberal' to you ass-backwards, Bush boot-licking, hick cocksuckers! FUCK YOU! Your state doesn't MATTER! LOL.

  • There was a cool factor in doing this,it has been the talk at local car shows.I wish the car would have survived and came out looking brand new.

  • what a waste of time and effort for a load of tossers

  • What a shame... everyone from Tulsa making it seem great that it has 50 years of mud but... they all know how much greatER it would have been if it had been covered by a CRATE that was watertight and really kept in pristine condition.

    "It ain't right..."

  • This car is a 100% loss, it is completely rotted not just rusted. Oddly, Oklahomans seem proud of their achievement of turning a pristine new car into rust. They did not build the car, they could not even store it. Their engineers did not know that water will seek the lowest point in an area so they omitted a drain. Welcome to Oklahoma, the Kazakhstan of America.

  • Not all Oklahomans are proud of this. Many are not.

  • You are wrong. It is not a 100% loss. It is completely restorable. Hopefully whoever wins it will have a little more sense than to want to leave it like it is.

  • I disagree: Keep the car as it is! It is beautiful even though it's muddy and rusty. Fifty years of grime has more soul to it than a restored car with almost every part shifted out.

  • Moreover this car is very dirty and should be washed. :)

  • I've never seen any public event that has had as many dumb, uninformed comments made about it as this one, and so many idiots who think it is a 'ruined' or 'wasted' car because it has some rust.

It is totally restoreable, is not ruined, is not a 'parts car', etc. It will live, breathe, run and shine again.

Yes, it was the wrong way to store the car, but it is

  • ...but it is totally restorable.

Storing it under water was one thing, but now that it's drying out, the mud and silt will make it rust WORSE if they don't clean it off!

  • I agree with ritchey65. Tulsa city should invest money in a detailed restoration of this Plymouth. Every year whenever there is an important hapenning this car should be driven around Tulsa's downtown.

  • a big brown turd

  • for foreign readers, Oklahoma is Americas Khazakistan

  • Hey, don't be rude. Have you ever been here? Have you ever toured the state? We may not be as popular as NYC or LA but we're not dirt. Come here. Tour the many different ecological areas of our state (we do have more than anyone else in the country). See the people, see the land. You may not be able to understand why Oklahomans may be proud of a car that was buried 50 years ago, but it serves as a symbol of perseverance and the ability to overcome the many obstacles that this state has faced.

  • 707320i give it up. We heard you a number of times about the Khazakistan joke. Enough is enough. Your the one looking like an idiot now!

  • who would like an american car anyway? :P

  • there is no interior , it has been eaten away with time and water , it's completely ruined , engine is full of water , just a loss of a perfectly brand new car .

  • i bet the interior of that car stinks to high heaven when she starts to dry out

  • It's a shame OKIES have NO BRAINS not to come up with DRAINS!

  • Boyd was brought in to get the thing running (long before it was discovered how shitty it was). I think he'll be doing a resto job on it as well.

  • Is what it is!

  • Piece of sh*t! Why did they not use a '57 Chevy??

  • Because 57 Chevys were so rare at the time, Plymouths on the other hand were a dime a dozen and just poor man's cars. Thats why you see more red 57 Chevys bel airs around today than you do the same year Plymouths. DO THE MATH YOU F*CKING IDIOT! I hate igonorant brand bashing idiots like you!

  • 57 Chevy and rare??? 70,774 of the 2DR were produced...

67,268 Plymouth 2DR Belevederes were produced...

    Brand bashing sucks though

  • '57 Chevy was not rare by any stretch. Watch you language. Can't you speak without calling names? Are you trying to live up to the Punk you use as a name? You need to grow up.

  • Pretty severe sagging in the back. Most likely rotten frame and spring perches. A good parts car.

  • Oh, I think it could fetch quite a bit more than $2,000. There are people who will pay thousands for a potato chip with Jesus' face on it. Whether or not the car is salvageable will depend on how much rust damage there is to the undercarriage. Sadly, these beautiful cars were extremely rust-prone.

  • And the lesson we all learned from this: Never forget the drain!! (and ofcourse never forget to connect the drain to the sewers).

  • One of the voices sounded like Boyd from the American Chopper show.

    Maybe he'll fix it up.

  • typo: boyd from American HotRod (at 40 seconds)

  • yuk

  • that's a shame :/

  • probably worth its weight in scrap!! so much for the guy saying that when its unearthed someone will get a pristine car, worth more than the two thousand dollars it cost new!!

  • You don't think that is rust on the glass do you? It was coated in cosmoline and covered. It should be like new. Couple of flat tires, etc.

  • i think theres probably more wrong with it than a couple of flat tyres..sad thing is it will probably be shut in a museum on display and will never be restored..only good thing about it now sadly is at least due to it being a new car, all its body panels will be straight..although laying in 4 foot or so of stagnant water wont have done it much good, particularly the interior... a restorers nightmare!.

  • It's worth lots more than the $2000 it cost when new, even right now, just like it is.
