  • Gosh, it sounds good, but playing such a jolly song you'd think a bit of a smile would rub off on that violinist!

  • to tell the truth only when the fiddle player got that foot stamping did it set the fire in my belly as this music should, after that amazing performance that would anyones ancestors proud.

  • Amazing piece!!!! Is there a way for me to see the tabs??cause that would be great

  • Bill Lamey's grandson is great...also related to them...play a little faster and he'd be up to par with Ashley...Go CB and BOS! My G-father was a Bag pipes player and my aunt the fiddler...It's not easy to play for those who are saying he sucks...whatever..i'd like to see you play it! ;)

  • Ahh I still love this piece, quite repetative yet so many nuances, new patterns, rhythms and tempi

  • Hi Doug, I know I shouldn't be leaving a message here for you, but I'm a youtube idiot. I went to your site and cannot leave my email for your updates. Also cannot email you back for some reason. youtube won't let me. Can you plz email me again? Again.. sry for leaving this in the comments section :(

    Wedding Reel #1

    Brenda Stubbert's Reel

    Dinky Dorian's

  • I Love this tune (Kennedy Street) You can find it in "The Fidddle Music of the Scottish Highlands" ceol na Fidhle, Vol l and ll compiled and arranged by Christine Martin.

  • thank you for posting!!!!!!

  • Amazing violin!

  • great performance!

  • Any fiddlers wanting to know a Shetland tune? Cape Bretons welcome to shetland - Willie Hunter. Its a really good tune.

  • tremendous!

all i want to know is, when and where?

  • Cape Brenton ties? Hes shows it right ace.

  • You guys are great. I'm thinking of getting back into the music and getting a band together. Some Cape Breton stuff would be fun to explore. Thanks

  • Excellent playing from both.

  • Very Raw/Real sound.I thought it was great thanks for posting.Just wondering what brand/type of E string you were using?

  • or maybe it's just me the rest of the tune sounded good maybe it's just my ears u coudl be in tune i was just saying incase ya know.lol

  • yea i think yas did good i love the tune

  • but the fiddle nad guitar in the vid don't really mactch something wrong like someones outa tune i duno maybe it's just me no offence guys u know what ur doing ne way

  • I should have been using an A chord instead of a G in one of the tunes but since we basically went in cold to the studio with no real game plan about what we were going to play I think we did good......

  • i fink u did gd

  • @ceolach I agree!

  • the first tune is a march called kennedy st. march by dun hughie machearn

  • an easy 5! thanks for the share the guys are great.

    peace

  • Not handsome guys (like the girls!), but damn good players-- the real thing !! Thanks!

  • HA... no, thank you... I think

  • Comment: as a fiddler & guitar player & listener/student of CB music - this is a great job on these tunes. Put yourself on a stage, mike yourself up & see how you do, otherwise. To get to this level takes years. The subtle elements are all there: the slurs, the quick wrist-flicks, and the guitar chord changes are solid - and the instruments sound ok together. Where's your CD, guys ? I'd buy !

  • ok - the tunes seem to be:

Atholl Highlanders Farewell to Loch Katrine

????? not sure what that one is ?????

    Brenda Stubbert's Reel

    Dinky's

  • Kennedy Street March (though I'd like to hear Athol Highlanders Farewell to Loch Katrine... might be similar, but this particular March was written by Dan Hughie MacEachern) The 2nd tune is an old Strathspey called "Devil in the Kitchen" found in the Harp and Claymore music collection.

  • Thanks ! Is the music to Kennedy Street March available anywhere ? I can try to pick it up by ear, but music helps.. thanks.

  • Good job ! I heard Brenda Stubbert's Reel in that set. The other tunes ? They're catchy enough that I'd like to have a go..

  • I could listen to this all day! Incredible job gentlemen!

  • LOL Meh To Well I Love Music Aswell Do You?

  • I sure do love music, especially this kind!

  • thanx guys u guys are talented. Nothing better than listening to good music after a hard days work.

  • Name of tune?

  • What's the name of the song? I'd like to play it too, I loooove it! Amazing guys!!

  • How wonderful to see & hear Bill Lamey's grandson playing these beautiful tunes! Maith thu fein! This fellow doesn't need classical training - the music is supposed to sound this way. The recordings of Bill Lamey on vinyl we used to listen to in the early '80's were so driving. Some of these have been picked up by Altan - anyone remember the name of that one distinctive tune at the end? Check them out if you have the chance.

  • It's called Dinky's. No joke.

  • great! it reminded me how much i like celtics traditional music.

  • Lovely tune. What's it called?

Violin balance - hard to hear on this and other videos.

  • great job and thanks for the share!!

  • Thank god every fiddler is different otherwise this would be a boring world.

  • Good work, both of you are very musical. Only thing I'd suggest though is perhaps the violinist should look for some classical training - you might notice an improvement in tone.

Oh...and juzzers, celtic music isn't particularly hard to play compared to classical music. That being said...celtic music requires a lot of musicality and an ability to improvise.

  • u guyz, playin in england any time soon ?

  • wow amazing

  • Really enjoyed this. Thanks.

  • good song to practice my irish step dancing to

  • Never heard Dinky's played like that, I liked it.

  • awesome

  • I am playing irish music for nearly 25 years now, and I can only say: these guys do a fantastic job. I can only dream that I could have played like that when I had their age!

  • Thanks......we love playing and we hope it shows.

  • is the volin hard to play?

  • its hard to learn but easire after that,.

  • oh yes! It is!

  • i just got a fiddle, and its isn't impossible to play. I also play the piano and the guitar, and id say its about the same learning curve as a guitar with the extra difficulty added with the lack of frets. Very fun to play though!! lovin every minute

  • Well done. You two play together very well.

  • bravo

  • you guys rock, I love this music!

  • 100%- love that beat- good tunes to step her off! looking forward to the 22nd at the Regent theater.

  • Great Job guys!! I really liked it alot.

  • Good work boys it takes me home when your a few thousand miles away on the westcoast. I did a TV show in the early with Scottie Fitzgerald, was your grandfather still playing then? Check out oleagleeye. Thank you Doug

  • Sounds great. Awesome CB fiddle, good rythm guitar.

  • Dougy Fresh is awesome! Lookin forward to April 22. Love ya Doug!

  • This guy really does have Cape Breton in his music, better than many Nova Scotians who try to play it with Symphony training. Keep up the good work.

  • by big i mean comercialy successfull. theres a huge market 4 triple threat acts.

  • This group is going to be big in the traditional community. I'd pay my 2 bits 2 c em.

  • 'IMHO' that was really good.

  • The only thing I'd say is that it lacks energy and spunk. The fiddler sort of chokes up the tone and his intonation isn't great, but in dances...that's quite acceptable. I've heard much words in squaredances. But, loosen up your bowing and control it's placement on the strings, and I bet it would sing much better.

  • With CB fiddling you either got it or you ain't. This is a fuller what could.

  • Good job boys. I was just reading comments from some of the critics....as long as you have a good time it dosn't matter what the hell you sound like. In my humble opinion I thought you were great!

  • Excellent. I hope someday I can play my fiddle like that!

  • Good job guys! What the tune name(s)? Can we find the score over intenet?

    Keep going!

  • Not matter who is his grandfather; nothing special both of them. Their playing is correct but not amazing.

    IMHO.

  • You'd think a guy who played the fiddle himself, and not nearly as well as Doug, would post a positive comment about a fellow fiddler. Check out this guys playing, he lives in a glass house and shouldn't be throwing stones.

  • I never said my playing is brilliant, nor compared myself with them. Simply said that they are not 'faaaantastastic' or 'aaaamazing'. Only my fucking opinion.

  • Negetivity breeds negetivity. It's too bad you lack personal insight to realize that the negetivity that you convey onto others is really a reflection as to how you feel about yourself. It is much easier to live your life in a positive and loving way. Best of luck to you on your journey through life. Happy Holidays!

  • A Caper wieghing in here: The fiddling isn't terrible...definitely not great, but not *too* bad.

Wise choices in the selection of tunes though.

  • Oh, if you were drinking then you have a excuse... :)

I'm not a guitar player, so can give you no advise.

Sorry for being so fussy, I like your music lads, keep it up.

  • Hey MacGregio, We were drinking scotch ;-) and its was filmed on our 2nd official gig but i'm always up for some constructive criticism. Any advice on chords you would have preferred? Tapadh Leat gu mor, Ceolach

  • Ok, the guitar player is not bad, I think what I noticed is that the guitar is slightly out of tune. Sorry.

  • I think the Guitar player rocks... if I played fiddle, I gladly have him by my side!

  • OK Fiddler? This guy is one of the best I've seen in a while! Love this tune.. wish I could find it somewhere to learn it.

  • Ok fiddler, but guitar not great.

  • atholl highlander's farewell to loch katrine? kickass.
